Chapter 225 Someone Important Is Coming

Jessica became nervous when she saw how her mother interrogated Alex. All this will be for naught if she discovered the truth!

"Mom, I told you. Alex is the company's manager, and his monthly salary is over a million," lied Jessica instantly before Alex got a chance to reply.

Everyone gasped. A salary of over a million? Oh my gosh!

That manager was a lot better off than most business owners.

At that moment, everyone stared at Alex with envy shining in their eyes.

Jessica was exasperated when she saw her relative's reaction. How much shock would they be in if they learn about his true identity?

Kitty regained her composure after her daughter reminded her.

It didn't matter who Alex was. It wasn't the right time or place to learn about it.

Kitty took a deep breath and settled her nerves before saying, "The deputy director general and the others are here, so let's have dinner now."

"Alright, let's go," said Victoria as she nodded. She then walked towards the hall with Jessica and her daughter's help.

Zachariah rushed out of the hall grimly after he heard that his father had arrived. That was not a place he wanted to stay in either. In fact, Zachariah thought that he would die of high blood pressure if he stayed for too long, because his rival was on a whole other level. That asshole is too good at putting up an act. Given the mystery surrounding his identity, I believe even my dad can't deal with the guy.

Zachariah's heart was shattered, and he no longer had the confidence to court Jessica. His heart was dead. It was basically killed by Alex.

"Mom, didn't you say that Mr. Wells will be here too? Should we wait for a little longer before we serve dinner?" asked Jessica's aunt.

"He said that he would be late and told us to start without him, so let's just go ahead with it," answered Victoria.

The host's family walked to the hall and saw that Jessica's uncles were chatting with a few people. Among them was a middle-aged man standing beside Zachariah. That was the deputy director general of Airedale's police department, Zane Hayes.

The other middle-aged man standing beside them was Presley Burch, who was also an important figure and was Zane's old pal. When he heard Zane say that Zachariah would be asking for Jessica's hand in marriage, Presley decided to go see the show. As such, he went under the pretense to wish Victoria a happy birthday.

Zane and Presley approached and wished the birthday celebrant a good year when they saw her walking out. They exchanged some small talks after that.

Zane and Presley hadn't seen Victoria, who had retired for over a decade, so they didn't think much about her change in appearance.

Victoria took her seat first, followed by the most important guest, Zane. The tradition dictated that the birthday celebrant would take the head of the seat and the two most important guests would sit on each of her side. The other important guests would take their seats according to the family's arrangement. The kids and other guests would sit at the other tables.

Zane walked to the seat on the right side of the birthday celebrant's seat without being invited or asked to. However, the birthday celebrant gestured the seat to her left and informed politely, "Mr. Hayes, this is your seat."

Zane was momentarily stunned, and his eyes shone with surprise and discontentment, but he grinned and took the second-most important seat, anyway.

"Mr. Wells said that he would drop by later today, Mr. Hayes, so..." clarified Ronald Hudson quickly

Gavin Wells?

Both Zane and Presley were shaken to their core. That is the most powerful man in the Provincial Police Department!

Zane and Presley were foot soldiers compared to Gavin.

The family knew Mr. Wells?
