Chapter 809 The Showpiece Of The Jewelry Store

As a martial artist, Alex had senses that exceeded most people. It didn't help that those present didn't bother to lower their voices, as they weren't worried about Alex hearing them. Hmph! What do they mean by it's such a shame? Alex was rendered speechless.

All he was doing was walking together with Maggie. Yet he was seen as a piece of cr*p in the eyes of the public. Wouldn't they be shocked if they knew that Maggie is the one pursuing me? Covering her mouth to laugh discreetly, Maggie looked up at Alex and remarked, "Since they claim that you're unworthy of me, it's my loss to stick to you. Well, you had better make it up to me!"

"All right, all right. Find something you fancy, and I'll buy it for you." Alex quickly changed the subject.

When it was clear that Alex was avoiding the topic, Maggie pouted as she shifted her attention to the jewelry.

Meanwhile, the sales assistant approached them with a smile and inadvertently gave Alex a look.

The main reason was that Maggie was more gorgeous than some A-list celebrities seen on TV. Thus, she was curious as to how an ordinary young man like him managed to snag such a pretty girlfriend. As she continued to scrutinize Alex, she was surprised to replace that he wasn't wearing any designer clothes at all. Looking at his bare wrist, it was clear that he didn't even own a watch.

No matter how she looked at him, he appeared to be someone poor. The only saving grace was his decent. features.

After giving Alex a look of contempt, the sales assistant gave Maggie her full attention as she cordially introduced the jewelry on display.

"Miss, this is the first time I've seen someone as beautiful as you. It feels as though the jewelry in our shop would lose its shine when you put it on! I feel embarrassed to show you everything here, why don't I bring out the showpiece of our store?"

After praising Maggie for her appearance, the sales assistant shifted the conversation to the showpiece. Disarmed by the sales assistant's compliments, Maggie was consequently intrigued by the showpiece. "In that case, do show it to me."

With Maggie's approval, the sales assistant went to the back to retrieve it.

In the meantime, Maggie and Alex waited leisurely for the latter's return.

It was then that a man in his thirties entered the store with his attention fixed entirely on Maggie.

He was tall, slim, and dressed in a suit. Despite looking like a gentle person with the spectacles he was wearing, the look he gave Maggie was anything but innocent.

After coming up to Maggie, he reached out his hand and introduced himself with a smile, "Hello, Miss, I'm the store manager.”

Maggie simply gave the manager a frosty look before turning her gaze toward Alex.

"Alex, why don't we get a pair couple watches instead? I think it's a wonderful idea," Maggie proposed.

Juxtaposed against Maggie's icy response to the manager, her attitude toward Alex was gentle and acquiescent.

"There's no such need, as we aren't a couple anyway. It would only give others the wrong idea," Alex casually replied.

His words triggered a drastic change in Maggie's expression as she gave him a pitiful look. "Why aren't we a couple? You even allowed me to hold your arm. Did you just change your mind?"

The manager was baffled by what he witnessed-a plain-looking man was turning down the advances of a gorgeous lady.

The sight frustrated him so much that he felt the urge to give Alex a good round of beating.

At that moment, the sales assistant returned with a box.
