Chapter 817 Good For Nothing
Ms. Lydia? The edges of Alex's lips twitched when he heard that. She's at most sixteen or seventeen years old, yet she's asking me, a person who's older than her, to refer to her like that. No way. Therefore, he opted to follow her wordlessly to the banquet.
Seeing that Alex stayed silent, Lydia frowned, scoffed, and halted her steps, refusing to budge.
Confused, he asked, "What's the matter? Did something happen?"
"I'm talking to you, yet you're ignoring me. Why should I guide you to the banquet, then? Since you're so aloof, you can replace your own way out." Lydia folded her arms and prepared to leave.
Upon seeing that, Alex blocked her path and smiled. "You've misunderstood me, Lydia. I forgot to reply to you because I'm in a hurry to reach the banquet." Since I'm the one asking her for help, I should be more humble. Otherwise, she'll ditch me, which is the last thing I want. I don't want to be trapped here any longer, running in circles like a headless chicken.
Seeing that Alex had shifted his attitude, Lydia relaxed her expression. "Hmph! At least you're sensible. Don't ignore me again if I'm talking to you! Do you understand?"
Alex nodded obediently.
Staring wide-eyed at Alex, Lydia inquired curiously, "Oh yeah, you haven't told me your name yet. What are you called?"
"Alex Jefferson." He didn't feel the need to hide his name.
Lydia scratched her head as she muttered, "Alex... The name sounds nice but also familiar... Oh, I remember now. There's a famous live-in son-in-law in Nebula City with the same name as you."
Promptly, she glanced at Alex with pity. "You must've been mistaken for him plenty of times because you share the same name as him. Say, why do you think that good-for-nothing lives off of a woman when he's healthy enough to work? I don't understand that kind of mentality."
Alex lightly coughed with an awkward expression. Should I tell this innocent teenager that I'm the good-for- nothing she's talking about? Hmm, now that I think about it, I don't think I should hide the truth. After all, I've had that title for years now, and I'm already used to people mocking me. Still, it's a little embarrassing to listen to an innocent teenager like her bringing it up.
"I'm the Alex you're talking about," answered Alex resignedly.
"Ah!" As though she had just learned a piece of shocking news, Lydia peered at Alex with disbelief. After a while, she asked curiously, "Are you lying to me? Because you don't look like someone who lives off of
a
woman."
Alex had no idea if he should feel happy or resigned, so he chuckled self-deprecatingly instead. "Really?"
Nodding earnestly, Lydia stared at him with a starry look and replied seriously, "You don't have the vibe of someone living off of a woman. Instead, you're more like someone who does incredible things. You don't feel like an ordinary person at all."
That roused a burst of boisterous laughter from Alex. He gently scratched her nose, beaming. "You're just a teenager, yet you said I'm unordinary. Aren't you afraid I'm a bad guy?"
Somewhat angrily, Lydia covered her nose. She very much disliked him abruptly touching her. "Im
nineteen years old this year. I'm already an adult, not a kid!"
