Chapter 896 Insect Codex
The book's pages had turned slightly yellow, clearly indicating its age, but surprisingly, it remained completely intact and was not the slightest bit damaged.
Judging from how well-preserved the book was, Magnus likely treasured it very much.
Alex couldn't help but wonder what kind of book would spur Magnus to protect it so well.
Without hesitation, he flipped through the pages. The words were written in seal script. Thankfully, he was somewhat familiar with it, so he could understand what was written on it.
Upon realizing the book recorded a series of methods of raising poisonous insects, he knitted his eyebrows grimly.
One of the methods documented in the book involved raising poisonous insects using children's innards. The insects in question were Magnus' Life Bugs and the Red-headed Bugs that attacked Alex before this.
After flipping through more pages, Alex found the odd malady Jared was suffering from. With that information at hand, everything clicked into place.
Magnus was an extremely capable man. However, since he practiced unorthodox black magic, he was hunted by righteous cultivators sent by secret forces. As a result, he was forced to live his life in hiding and could no longer continue practicing black magic.
At that very moment, the sudden establishment of a new prominent family in Lumenopolis caught his attention. After a while, he devised the perfect plan to manipulate that family.
With a few tricks he had up his sleeve, Magnus infected Jared with a strange ailment and waited for a while before showing up, using the Wallace family to help him get his hands on the materials he needed for raising poisonous insects on the pretext of treating Jared's weird disease.
Fortunately for him, Jared was absolutely terrified of dying and would do anything Magnus said in order to stay alive. That was how things slowly developed into how it was now.
If it weren't for Alex's intervention, things would've gotten a lot worse. It was even possible that everything would remain a secret due to the Wallace family's connections.
The most tragic person in the whole story was undoubtedly Jared, who was used by the person who caused him sufferings. If Alex didn't discover the book, Jared would never know Magnus was the reason behind his plight.
When Alex turned to Jared again, he saw a pool of blood around the latter's body. Almost all the flesh on Jared's left leg had been carved away.
At that moment, Jared was grimacing, his face looking as pale as a ghost. It seemed like his end was near.
Alex gently tapped Jared's forehead, dispelling the hypnosis. Immediately, Jared released the dagger in his -hand and stared at Alex fearfully, eager to escape, However, the pain from his leg was so overwhelming that he almost lost his mind. Since he couldn't flee even if he wanted to, he opted to beg Alex for mercy.
"Do you want to know why you turned into a monster and about the true nature of Mr. Quentin, a man you've always respected?" asked Alex.

Jared was stunned. In the past, he was once curious about the answers to those questions. In fact, he asked someone to investigate Magnus' identity before, but he couldn't replace anything While he was still very curious about the truth behind those matters, what he cared most about at that moment was staying alive.
"I don't want to know. I... I... I beg you, stop making me suffer. What do you want? I can give you the entire Wallace family! Let me go, please!" pleaded Jared desperately, even though the Wallace family meant everything to him.
He thought no one could possibly reject such an enticing offer.
To his surprise, Alex shook his head with indifference. "I have no interest in the Wallace family. In any case. Mr. Quentin is the reason you turned into a monster. He was merely using you to obtain children's innards to raise poisonous insects. As the head of the Wallace family, you should be ashamed of yourself for having no idea that you were exploited for years. The only reason I'm telling you all this is for you to at least know the truth before you die."
Naturally, Jared was bewildered by the revelation. He shook his head vigorously but couldn't deny what Alex said.
Moments later, he snapped out of his disbelief. I think what he said is the truth. Why else would I suddenly have this weird condition? So, it's that old b*stard who did this to me!
He grabbed the dagger on the ground and stabbed Magnus' corpse relentlessly, shouting. "I trusted and respected you! To think you've been lying to me all this time! I'm going to tear your body apart!" Alex stepped away from the insane Jared, watching the latter ferociously stabbing Magnus corpse until it was mangled. In the end, Jared collapsed on Magnus' corpse and died due to exhaustion. Glancing at the Insect Coder in his hand, Alex thought about burning it because it contained dangerous and harmful knowledge. However, he chose to keep it in case he needed to use it against evil people in the future.
