Upon hearing that, Maggie could not help but panic. She could tell Lydia was clearly interested in Alex during the birthday banquet. Maggie, being perceptive as she was, could sense Lydia's feelings for the man despite how subtle the signs

What surprised her more was the realization that Alex had made a promise to Lydia. This revelation left. Maggie conflicted.

Normally, Maggie would strategize how to handle other women competing for Alex's attention. However, Lydia was someone she had known since childhood, and their bond was akin to that of sisters. Maggie dreaded the thought of their relationship deteriorating due to their shared interest in Alex.

Giles also started to worry about his young granddaughter, who still behaved immaturely. When Alex and Maggie returned to Nebula City previously, Lydia wanted to tag along. In the end, he had to step in to stop

her.

The girl became moody ever since Alex and Maggie left, and she had even absentmindedly written Alex's name on her book when she was in class.

Giles, being an astute old man, knew what was going through his granddaughter's mind, but there was nothing much he could do about it.

If Lydia were to make any unreasonable demands, Alex would replace himself in a quandary because a man of integrity like him would feel compelled to honor his promise.

Initially, Alex was rather nervous because he perceived Lydia as a headstrong individual who would go to great lengths to achieve her desires. He did not anticipate her to show such sensibility and thoughtfulness in this situation.

"I assure you, I'll fulfill your request. I'll still treat Maggie with utmost care even if you don't tell me to," Alex replied affirmatively.

Those resolute words from Alex stirred a sense of melancholy within Lydia. She could not help but feel envious of Maggie, wishing deep down that Alex would treat her in the same manner.

The Promise

Her grandfather had once told her he would give her anything she desired in this world. How Lydia wished she could tell him that there was nothing she had desired more than to be with Alex.

However, Lydia understood that was beyond Richard's control. Moreover, she realized that forcing Alex to stay by her side would be futile, as true happiness could not be forced.

In the past, she had no idea how to hide her emotions, but she had gradually learned to suppress her feelings. Does that mean I've grown up? Does that mean I'm no longer the carefree person I used to bes Lydia's heart sank as she witnessed Alex and Maggie walking away together.
