Soulmate Of A True Alpha -
Scene 74
I was lying on a bed of straw, completely exhausted. Marie-Jeanne quickly trusted me, as our interests were the same: to kill the beast. She, her ‘friend’ and I spent the day tracking the beast, making plans and starting again. I stood my ground the whole time but then, once my adrenalin had subsided, I got scared. Afraid I’d never get home. Afraid I’d never replace Stiles. What if I’m stuck here forever? I can’t get used to the idea. Not being able to feel Stiles’ reassuring body, not being able to put my lips on hers… It’s inconceivable. A tear rolls down my cheek but I don’t pull it back. I see a candle light moving towards me until I can see Marie-Jeanne. Having no electricity… that’s inconceivable too.
Marie-Jeanne: How are you feeling? I imagine it’s hard being away from home…
She’s finally realised that I’m not from another village. Her confidence in me must be slim, but sincere.
Me: I miss my family. And my boyfriend too.
I invite him to sit next to me.
Marie-Jeanne: What’s he like? Your boyfriend?
I smile nothing when I think of him
Me: He’s… Hyperactive. He likes to investigate everything and anything. He’ll do anything to help those he loves. Even if it means spending three hours in the woods following a boy he doesn’t trust!
I laugh softly as I think of Liam falling into a hole, Scott and me at the only restaurant that never closes, Stiles pestering his father to investigate Theo…
Marie-Jeanne: I’m sure you’ll replace him Hannah. From the look in your eyes, you care about them so much that you won’t give up on them.
And that’s true. I smile at this girl who looks exactly like Allison. Marie-Jeanne even lent me some of her clothes because… my jeans and T-shirt wouldn’t go unnoticed here.
Marie-Jeanne: Hannah. Please tell me who you are. I promise I will never reveal your identity.
I owe her that much.
Me: My name is Hannah McCall. I live in a town called Beacon Hills in the year 2018. My abilities include teleportation and vision. They call me Ancient Warrior.
Marie-Jeanne: There… there are others like you?
I nod
Me: Many are good, like my friends and my brother. Others, no. Not all monsters do monstrous things!
Scott’s words. Marie-Jeanne smiles and looks at her candle
Marie-Jeanne: We should get some sleep now. We’ll defeat the beast tomorrow. I promise, Hannah.
I smile at her and she gets up, disappearing with the little candle that was lighting us. I lie down again on this bed, which is a thousand times less comfortable than mine, and end up falling asleep thinking about my pack.
The next day
Me: Help!
I run, much slower than I could, but fast enough to outrun the beast. When I reach the trap, I run as fast as my powers will allow and Marie-Jeanne springs up to pierce the beast’s body, who falls to his knees in the snow and becomes human again.
Sébastien: You think you’ve managed to kill me, little sister? With that pathetic spear?
Marie-Jeanne: This spear was forged from wolfsbane, mistletoe and silver. Everything that’s deadly to you.
B***d spurts from Sébastien’s mouth. That’s when he realises his time has come. He ends up collapsing in the snow. Marie-Jeanne starts to cry and screams out all the pain she must have accumulated over all this time. I go over to her and hold her.
Me: It’s all over. You’ve done it, Marie-Jeanne. You can go back to living now.
She finally calms down and looks at me, smiling.
Marie-Jeanne: How can I thank you?
Me: Say that you’ve done it alone. I don’t exist, okay? Please, Marie-Jeanne
She nods. I don’t have to change the future.
Me: And… keep that spear in your family. It must stay there. It will be useful to me.
She agrees again, but with a frown, surely not understanding why this spear will be useful to me.
I close my eyes as I came here, and think of home. All the details that characterise it so well.
I can’t feel the winter cold any more. I open my eyes slowly and replace myself in front of Stiles, Scott, Lydia and Allison, who look at me without understanding.
Me: I’m going to have to explain everything, aren’t I?
