Sour Souls The Morningstar Series Book 6 -
Sour Souls Chapter 6
It's been two weeks since I got locked up. I think that they forgot that I'm down here. I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
I haven't been fed, given water, or even a bathroom. My cell consists of a single old mattress on the floor, no sheet, no pillow, and a bucket to do my buisness in. The cell bars, and walls have wolvesbane infused in them somehow. There is no window. No light. No candles. Only darkness.
I'm not even sure if it's been two weeks, or longer. I've been trying to count the hours, but it gets hard Especially when I feel like I'm slowly dying of dehydration.
I wonder if Noah is doing okay.
Who is taking care of him now? How is he doing? Is he okay without me there? Is whoever that's taking care of him, reading his favorite book? Do they know that he hates pickles?
I can't get Noah's terrified face out of my head. It haunts me. He was so scared when they drug me awa
Although, I can't bring myself to feel bad about Dave. I still have no idea what I did, or how I was able to do it. But I am happy that I did.
Am I not a wolf though? Am I something else?
That doesn't make sense though. Mom was a wolf.
Maybe this has something to do with my father?
Suddenly, a sharp pain pierced my head. I grunted in pain, and fell to the side in a heap. Just as quickly as the pain came, it stopped. What the hell was that?
It was me.
A voice said.
What?
It's so nice to finally meet you Emilia. I am Honi. I'm your wolf. She said.
My jaw dropped.
So.. I am a wolf. I said.
My wolf chuckled.
Of course you are silly. She said. I've been waiting for so long to awaken. I am sorry that it took me so long to get to you. You have endured so much. The sadness in Honi's voice broke the last bits of me. I lay on the cold, hard, dirty ground, and cried. I cried until I fell asleep that night.
It's been another two weeks (I think) since Honi joined me. I became stronger when she surfaced. Almost like something else in me awakened as well. I was finally given food, and water the day after Honi came to me. I get one meal of slop a day, and one bottle of water. Whatever, it's enough for me.
I'm still surprised that no one has came to talk to me. Or kill me. I offed the Beta of the damn pack, and no one has even questioned me yet. I don't understand it.
They are waiting. Honi said.
For what? I asked.
They are trying to break you to get answers quicker. She said.
I rolled my eyes.
Well, they are going to be disappointed, because I have no idea what I did. I said.
You used your other power. Honi told me.
My other power? I asked her.
Honi nodded. I can feel it in here with us. There is more power that is hovering. Just waiting to be let out. She said.
There is? I asked
Can't your feel it? Honi asked.
I shook my head.
I felt something when I killed Dave, but I only feel you right now. I said.
Perhaps we should meditate. Honi suggested.
You think that'll work? I asked.
Honi nodded. Here let me teach you how.
*********
It's been almost two months. If I'm keeping track of my time correctly. No one has came to talk to me still. If Honi was right, and they are trying to break me down, they're doing a bad job.
I'll tell them the truth, but it won't help. I don't understand what I did. Honi doesn't understand what I did. I doubt anyone else would either.
At this point, I have nothing to lose. My life was over the moment my mom met her mate. I should have known that this whole time, instead of trying to replace away to escape. Hell, I should have killed Dave sooner.
At least Noah is safe. I wonder every single day how he's doing. Who is taking care of him, and if he misses me as much as I miss him.
I think about Talia, and Granny every day too. I hope Talia didn't cause too much of a scene about me. I wonder how her and Granny are.
Are they okay? Do they miss me as much as I miss them? Are they taking care of Noah?
Let's try to meditate some more. Honi suggested.
That's always her go to when I start to sprial. If it weren't for Honi, I would have died already. She gives me strength, and feeds my spirit.
Okay. I said.
I sat with my legs crossed, and my arms relaxed. I cleared my head, and tried to focus on the power inside of me. I can feel it there. A small white flame.
It took me a while to feel the flame in the first place. After I felt it, it became so much easier to replace it. Though, I still cannot make it do anything.
That flame just sits inside of me, as if waiting for something. I'm just not sure what that something is. This power knows more than I do.
Focus. Honi scolded me.
I tried my best to focus on the flame. And then it flickered. I gasped.
Then my cell bars opened.
My eyes popped open to see Alpha Frederick walk in followed by two of our strongest warriors. I didn't move from my spot. Not even when they drug in a chair for the Alpha to sit in. "Hello Emilia." Alpha greeted.
I said nothing.
"I apologize that it has taken me this long to come, and speak with you. Your little stunt caused me quite the headache." Alpha chuckled.
How can he sound amused over the death of his Beta?
He is a sorry excuse for an Alpha. Honi growled out in my head.
"Now we have some time to talk though." Alpha said. "Tell me, what did you do? The little Beta said that you didn't touch Beta Dave. Dr. Stevens says that all of his organs exploded from the inside. Said he's never seen anything like it." Alpha said. "I don't know what happened." I said honestly.
Alpha Frederick smirked down at me. He stood, and walked to where I am sitting in the corner. Alpha smiled down at me, and then back handed me across the face.
I fell to the side, and spit out blood. Figures he would hit me. How stupid of him, like I haven't been abused for the last ten years. What did he think that was going to accomplish?
"Do not lie to me you little bastard." Alpha said.
I sat back up, and leaned against the wall.
"I'm not lying. I don't know what happened. I just panicked when your precisous Beta hit his own son with the hard end of a belt." I spat out.
Alpha Frederick leaned down to my face level. He wrapped his hand around my throat, and pulled me to my feet. Alpha squeezed my throat until I started to struggle to breathe.
"The only reason you reside in this pack is because of that Beta. It might have just been to have a nanny for his son. Something to hit around when he got mad. But do not mistake it bastard. No one wanted you here. Not from the begining." Alpha seethed. Then he dropped me to the floor. I sucked in as much air as I could. Alpha Frederick took his seat.
"I told Dave to toss that patheic excuse for a mate aside the moment he found her. The simple fact that she had you proves how much of a whore she was. That woman couldn't even be bothered with wearing a condom." Alpha Frederick said.
I leaned against the wall again. This isn't anything that the students at school have said. It feels no different hearing them from the Alpha.
"You were a mistake from the beginning. You should have never been born Emilia." Alpha said sweetly.
Don't listen to him Emi. You deserve life. You shouldn't have to pay for your parents mistakes. Honi told me.
I know. I said.
"Now, tell me the truth. What are you?" Alpha Frederick asked.
I furrowed my brow.
"What am I?" I laughed. "Pretty sure you just said I'm a worthless bastard child." I said.
Alpha Frederick rolled his eyes, and clicked his tongue.
"You know what I mean girl." He said.
I shook my head.
"I don't know. I don't know what happened. I don't know what I am. I have no idea. I swear." I said.
Alpha Frederick seemed to inspect me for a moment. He lifted his hand, and flicked his wrist. The two warriors came into my cell, and stomped towards me. I tried to shrink back, but I'm already against a wall.
One warrior lifted me to my feet. He looped his arms through mine from behind me. Then they both looked to their Alpha.
Alpha Frederick nodded to them.
The one not holding me punched me in my gut hard. I tried to double over in pain, but the one holding me wouldn't let me. The other warrior threw hit after hit to my body.
It felt like hours later that I was dropped to the ground. I coughed up blood. Honi whimpered, and growled in my head.
"Hmmm, I thought that after a beating like that your power would surface again. Guess not." Alpha Frederick said.
One of my eyes is swollen shut now. I watched through my good eye as the Alpha stood to leave my cell. They took the chair, and locked the door.
"We will try again tomorrow." Alpha said sweetly, before walking away.
*********
This went on every day for two weeks. I'm starting to miss Dave's beatings. Alpha Frederick gets creative, that's for sure.
Dave only used to use his fists, and his belt. Alpha Frederick moved from fists, to whips, to chains, and so much more. They forced wolvesbane down my throat just to prove that I'm a wolf.
It burned so much more now that I have Honi.
I kept Honi a secret up until that point. Alpha Frederick figured it out when the pain was unbearable. He said that I should have died just from that if I really have a wolf.
That only made him feel more validated in thinking that I am something different. Now the Alpha thinks I am a Hybrid. So, the beatings got worse.
We learned about Hybrids at school. They are rare, even these days. I highly doubted that I was one at first. Now, I think the same as the Alpha.
I don't know what I am, or understand this power. But I feel it there. I feel the white flame. I heal quickly since gettting Honi, even without a shift. There is something else inside of me. I just wish I knew what.
"It seems that beating you isn't helping at all." Alpha Frederick said.
I'm chained up by my arms. The chaines have wolvesbane in them. My wrists are buring, and my skin there is melting off.
The two warriors that always acompany the Alpha have just sliced up my body with five different kind of knives. I was about to pass out before Alpha Frederick stopped them. "Probably because of what Beta Dave put you through your whole life." The Alpha said.
Blood, and drool are dripping from my mouth.
"Should I offer your body up to these warriors? Perhaps getting raped would help this power to surface." He said.
I mustered up enough strength to spit blood in the Alpha's face.
Alpha Frederick chuckled darkly, and wiped the spit from his face. He motioned for the men to continue. Suddenly, adrenaline pumped through my veins, caused by fear.
The warriors came over to me. I thrashed around as they fiddled with my pants. This can't be happening.
How can they even do this?
Calm down Emi. Remember the flame. Pull on it. Honi told me.
I'm sobbing at this point.
"Please..." I begged.
One warrior got my pants off. I'm still thrashing around. This can't be happening.
The sound of a belt buckle coming undone shook me to my bones.
Just like last time.. I let out a loud scream. It bounced off of the walls, and pierced the air. All three men covered their ears, and groaned out in pain.
My scream continued. Wind swirled around us depsite no windows. The power built up inside of me.
My scream finally stopped.
The two warriors fell to the ground. Blood poured out of their nose, mouth, and eyes. My breathing came out harsh.
Alpha Frederick clapped his hands together.
"Haha!" He boasted. "You did it!"
Then everything went dark.
***************
It's been a month since I killed the warriors. Alpha Frederick has come by every other day. He does the same things, with different warriors.
I mean, he has to. I kill them all.
So far, I have killed twelve of Alpha Frederick's warriors. I'm not even sure why he keeps brining them down here.
Does he just like to watch his people die?
Some Alpha. Honi commented.
I agree with her. What a f*****g sorry excuse for an Alpha.
I practice meditating every day. My flame moves more now, but I still can't control it. I want to. Desperately. Maybe if I could, I could escape here.
"Good morning my favorite little bird." Came the Alpha's voice.
I rolled my eyes at his nickname. Alpha Frederick loves calling me his favorite bird. A caged bird.
I looked up to replace him alone.
"Didn't feel like killing off any of your pack members today?" I asked snarkily.
Alpha Frederick smiled. "Have I mentioned how much I love your spirit little bird?"
I rolled my eyes.
I've become very mouthy. I'm not sure if it's this power that has be feeling more secure, or if I just feel I have nothing left to lose. I mean, I'm locked up. No way to communicate with the outside world. I will most likely never leave this cell. I will only ever know darkness, and loneliness.
So, what does it matter now?
I'm sticking up for myself like I never did before. The Alpha, and the rest of his damn pack can all burn to the ground for all I fucking care. What's Alpha Frederick going to do? Kill me?
"You never fail to mention all of my best qualities, Frederick." I replied.
Alpha Frederick's face morphed into anger, before he quickly covered it. He hates when I don't use his title. I assume it is extremely disrespectful for him.
Good.
"I would say let's put that pretty little mouth of yours to work, but I already know how that turns out." He said.
"And I'm guessing you don't want to lose your life." I said cheerfully.
Alpha Frederick chuckled darkly.
"I actually came down here to see if I could try something else to evoke those powers of yours." He said.
"And you came all alone?" I asked with fake worry.
Alpha Frederick stared at me with amusement dancing in his eyes.
"The little Beta asks about you every day ya know." He said.
My blood froze.
"It's getting quite annoying. Perhaps I should think about picking another family to be my Beta. I do need another one right now. It would be better than waiting for that brat to grow into his role." Alpha Frederick said. What is he getting at?
"Although, the person I chose.. well, they would have to kill the little Beta. To take his power." He said.
I jumped to my feet, and grabbed the bars of my cell. I ignored the burning of my flesh as I glared into the Alpha's cold eyes.
"You leave Noah alone. He has every right to worried about me. He's just a kid, he doesn't understand any of this." I said.
"And if I don't?" Alpha Frederick asked. "If I don't leave him alone?"
"I will slaughter you, and every single wolf in this damn pack!" I shouted as a growl ripped from me.
The Alpha laughed sinisterly.
"You? You can't even control your power." He said amused.
Alpha Frederick moved closer to the bars. A cold look took over his features. I didn't shrink back though.
"You listen to me little bird." The Alpha seethed. "You are going to learn how to control that power of yours. You're going to live in this cell for your entire life. You will have your first shift here. If you survive it, you will stay here. I will never let you go." He continued to seeth.
Then Alpha Frederick's face softened. He reached through the bars to cup my cheek. I didn't flinch away from him. I just kept up my glare.
"If you behave yourself though, I will let you out. I will keep your precious little brother safe. He will become the Beta to my son. And no other pack will mess with us. Because we will have a seceret weapon." The Alpha told me.
I gave him a confused look
A secret weapon? What does he mean by that?
"You, my favorite little bird." Alpha Frederick said. "You will live souly to defend this pack. Or you, and your little brother will die. I don't care what I have to do to kill either of you little bird. Do not test me." He stated.
Alpha Frederick removed his hand from my face. He took a step back from my cell. Then he looked me up and down.
"Control your power, and I will think about not killing that little Beta. Don't make me wait too long little bird."
And with that, the Alpha left me alone.
Always alone.
Once again. I'm always alone. Just like before Noah was born.
I have to protect him. I have to learn control. I can't let them kill Noah because of me.
