Chapter 2

Yvette arrived at the Luxford residence.

She noticed that the mansion had a similar layout as the Towell residence, albeit almost double in size.

Then, she pressed the doorbell.

It did not take long for someone to answer the door and lead her into the mansion.

The air was still in the courtyard, save for the dull sound of her suitcase rolling on the stony pathway that seemed to stretch for miles. Yvette found the sound an oddity against the quiet and classy mansion.

As soon as she reached the main entrance to the mansion, the ser vant retreated, and Yvette was led by another person into the living hall.

She noticed that two people were already waiting for her as they sat in the hall an old man with a head full of white hair and a middle-aged elegant woman.

The woman was stunned at the sight of Yvette. Of course, she had seen the Yvette’s photos, but she had not expected that even the photos had not done her justice.

“Such a beautiful woman… I doubt that she will stay for long, the woman mused.

“You must be Yvette! the middle-aged woman, Lauren Baines, said with a straight face. Yvette nodded and greeted them. politely, “Nice to meet you, Old Mr. Luxford and Mrs. Luxford.”

Yvette’s graceful and well-mannered demeanor pleased Lauren. “She is definitely more than qualified to be my daughter-in- law. Such a pity that… Lauren mused.

“I will have to make clear of Joshua’s condition to you-”

“I am aware, Mrs. Luxford. Mr. Luxford was involved in a car accident half a year ago, and he has been in a coma since.” Yvette muttered,

She knew that she was marrying a man who would potentially never wake up from a coma, she knew that it was no different. than being widowed.

Yvette had tactfully phrased herself so as not to insult the Luxfords. Though Lauren felt grateful for her understanding of the matter, she grew worried. Just when Lauren was about to speak, she heard Yvette’s gentle voice utter. “I am willing to marry him.”

Her prompt willingness surprised them, though it was understandable. The Luxfords knew the predicament Yvette was in.

Everyone in Jipsdale knew how hard the Towell family had fallen from its pedestal. It was also for that reason that the Luxfords had considered the marriage proposal to Yvette.

After all, she was no longer as prestigious as she used to be. She had no one else to turn to, and she was in desperate need of help. It was a win-win situation for both Yvette and the Luxford family.

“We will try our best to fulfill your wishes, Ms. Towell”

“I would like to secure the Towell residence.”

Yvette was unafraid of stating her intention outright. After all, who would marry a living dead for no reason?

The Luxford family knew that Yvette would have her condition, and so they had chosen to pitch the marriage proposal. People who knew what they wanted out of an agreement were the easiest to deal with.

Lauren turned to look at her father-in-law. Even though William Luxford remained silent, Lauren knew that his silence meant a green light for Yvette’s condition.

“Sure. If the bank has put the Towell residence on auction, we shall secure it for you, Lauren said.

Yvette nodded and muttered her thanks politely.

In fact, she was pleased with the marriage that was not a love match.

She knew what she was getting out of the deal marrying a husband who might never wake up from a coma in exchange for a lifetime of luxury and the new identity of Mrs. Luxford. As a matter of fact, she would lose nothing, save for her marital

status

“I would like to sign an agreement stating that the Towell residence is to be directly registered under my name,” Yvette

added.

Lauren nodded. “Very well. I will arrange for that.’

Then, she turned to Yvette and asked, “When will the wedding take place?”

“As soon as possible. The Luxford family may see to the wedding reception as you see fit, and I will ab ide by them all.”

“Tomorrow is a good day. Dad, what do you

William had already nodded in agreement before Lauren even popped the question. Lauren finally felt the weight lift off

her chest.

“Are they planning for me to marry him tomorrow?” Yvette mused.

Yvette was stumped by the fact that the Luxford family was more eager than she was. She could not help but wonder if Joshua’s condition had taken a turn for the worse.

She was elated by the prospect, however, Given how wealthy the Luxford family was, as long as she toed the line, Lauren would not mistreat her even after Joshua died.

Yvette knew her footing in the world as a beautiful young lady, especially how malicious men like Nathan could be targeting a woman like her who was down on her luck.

It was a blessing for her to be able to spend the rest of her life shielded by the wealth and influence of the Luxford family..
