Chapter 917 The Person Behind the Scene

Next to him was a low table, on which burned a censer, in which the finest agarwood burned quietly, giving off a dark and pleasant smell.

After his subordinate finished reporting, he stopped waving the folding fan in his hand.

He said lightly, "So, they've taken over the Zircon Association's land?"

His subordinate slightly bowed his head and replied respectfully, "Yes."

He said, looking at his master as if puzzled.

"We never quite understood, Sir, that if you took on the Zircon Association, why don't you..."

The man smiled.

There was an inscrutable radiance on that handsome face.

He said, "Am I short of money?"

His subordinate was stunned.

Although he did not know how much money he had, it was obvious that he had a lot.

So, he shook his head.

The man asked again, "Does the Zaccardi Family need to other external things to prove its power and competence?"

His subordinate shook his head again.

"If we don't need anything, why should I fight with them?"

As he said this, the subordinate seemed to understand something, but seemed to understand even less.

"But all the things you've done this time..."

"I have my reasons."

The man said that he waved his hand. The subordinate saw this and did not dare to ask too much, so he retreated.

After he left, the man sat there for a while until a servant came in and whispered to him, "Mr. York Zaccardi is here." He nodded and got up and went out.

In the quiet room, the decoration was very sedate and primitive.

When he walked in, there was already another person in the room.

The man was wearing a dark suit and looked in his fifties or sixties. Seeing him, the man bent down respectfully and said quietly, "There you are, Sir."

Clinton Zaccardi looked at York Zaccardi.

He held a string of beads between his fingers and rubbed them one by one. "Take a seat." He said.

York Zaccardi sat down quickly.

It was hard to imagine that The Zaccardi patriarch, so noble to outsiders, would grovel and bow before a man who looked at least 20 years his junior.

They sat opposite each other in front of a set of antique tea trays.

Clinton Zaccardi reached out to make tea slowly. York Zaccardi noticed that the hands in front of him were slender and white, like perfect strands of white bamboo, unlike those of a man. He was almost dazed until Clinton Zaccardi began to speak.

"Is everything all right in the family?"

York Zaccardi replied quickly, "Everything is fine. I told them everything you told me. Everything is as you said."

Clinton Zaccardi nodded.

He raised his hand and made York Zaccardi a cup of tea himself.

York accepted it and turned pale with fear.

"Sir, how dare I bother you? I'll do it myself."

Clinton said with a smile, "We're all family. You're welcome here."

His words made York's movements stop. For some reason, he suddenly became uneasy.

He was trying to figure out why he was being so polite when Clinton said, "It must have been hard for you to run the family all these years."

Hearing this, York's eyes opened wide in fear.

His face turned white and he stood up quickly.

"Sir, that's what I'm supposed to do. I've been managing according to your guidelines, and I haven't done anything you told me not to do. I..." He was sweating with nervousness.

Clinton, however, said with a smile, "I know. Don't be afraid. I'm just asking. As long as you do well, I won't think anything of you."

York looked at him blankly, wondering if he was telling the truth.

Clinton smiled weakly and said, "Sit down."

In desperation, he sat down again.

The atmosphere in the room was somber.

York said stiffly, "Sir, what are your orders for calling me here today?"

"No hurry," Clinton said. "Just taste the tea."

He looked cool and made tea in a leisurely manner, which was like someone coming out of a painting.

York had no choice but to take the tea and drink it.

The tea was slightly bitter, then sweet, but there was refreshing effect.

His eyes lit up.

"Nice."

Clinton smiled, as if he were genuinely happy.

He said with a smile, "It's new tea from Carroll. That's all we have this year. It's all here. If you like it, you can take some back later."

York was shocked.

This time, however, he dared not refuse, "Thank you, sir."

Clinton said after tea was finished, "This time I asked you to take on the Zircon Association, and you did, but I asked you mot to share in the spoils afterwards, and your people must have been very critical of you."

York smiled cautiously, "They did not understand your painstaking, so their criticism was temporary, after they know that you are also for the good of the family, there will be no more any criticisms." Clinton's eyes narrowed slightly.

"But what they don't know is that it's me, standing behind you, making that decision. They don't even know there's a me behind you. How are you gonna tell them that?" York's expression froze.

Clinton looked aloof and unexpressive, "The Zaccardi Family has been passed down for thousands of years, and each head takes the stable and orderly development of the Family as the goal. A person of high position is liable to be attacked. Our strength, however strong, is limited. The Zircon Association is so far away from us that taking it would not only be of little benefit, but would divide our power and possibly divide us. In the end, a good family must go to the end of disintegration like other great families."

His voice was light, slow and measured. York was shocked to hear that.

He rose quickly and bowed to him, "Thanks for your reminding and instructions. I got it."

Clinton took another sip of tea from his cup and said, "As for why I sent you to take on the Zircon Association, it's because they don't know the rules. The underground order had been very good, but he was delusional to wipe out other organizations underground. His ambition is too great."

"Since we have always been committed to maintaining order, we cannot stand idly by in such a situation. Besides, some people have already done most of the work, we are just icing on the cake, it is nothing. And we were doing them a favor by doing this, so, why not?"

York bowed his head lower, "Yes. I got it."
