“Millie.”

Looking up, Millie saw Marcus sprinting toward her, completely drenched, his once noble suit dripping.

“What are you doing here? I don’t want to see you,” she declared, angling her body to avoid his gaze. The more she looked at him, the more her heart ached.

Marcus said patiently, eyes fixed on Millie, “You’ve misunderstood.

Angela’s Library

She’s interested in Harlan, not me.”

Though she was filled with disdain for Marcus at that moment, he felt a strange sense of joy. He wasdeeply moved by Millie’s words during her spat with Mavis.

Millie remained unyielding, turning her back on him.

“Do you think I’ll believe you? I’m no fool.”

The thought of Marcus taking another girl for a ride and kissing her in the car tormented her. Shebelieved he was merely using Harlan as a scapegoat.

Frustration creasing his brow, Marcus placed his hands on her trembling shoulders, forcing her to facehim.

“You truly misunderstand. She genuinely likes Harlan. The rain’s too heavy; let’s go back first.”

Peering into his dark eyes, Millie hesitated. He seemed sincere, but she quickly dismissed the thought.

No, she couldn’t trust his words. He was surely lying.

Not just because of what Mavis had told her, but Marcus’ recent unusual behavior had proven he washiding something.

Men were liars, always looking for the opportune moment to reveal the truth in a way that benefitedthem.

Her father had lied to her mother back when he was having an affair with Gianna.

He had secretly transferred all the assets before confessing to her mother, leaving her with nothingwhen they divorced.

“You’re a liar. I won’t believe you. I hate you. Leave me alone!”

Millie stated defiantly.

Marcus was at a loss for words.

He had been deeply touched by Millie’s earlier sentiments, but now he felt utterly confounded by heremotions.

Millie wouldn’t even glance his way. If she remained soaked like this, she was sure to come down witha fever, and the thought of her being sick filled him with concern.

“Just leave. You don’t need to return to Cloud Villa anymore. Just stay here. I won’t call you or ask youto come home early again,”

Millie told him.
