The whole department was abuzz with excitement.

Meanwhile, Emerie slipped out of the office, face twisted into a grimace. Their worst fear had cometrue.

After leaving her office, Emerie hastily dialed Nancy’s number, relaying everything that had unfolded.

On the other end of the call, Nancy was livid, feeling a burning humiliation as though Millie wereflaunting her success.

Cursing under her breath, she believed that now everyone saw Millie’s brilliance, and her ownaccomplishments had been overshadowed in the blink of an eye.

“Are you okay?” After she finished speaking, there was a silence on the other end of the line. Emerie’svoice was tinged with concern.

Nancy took a deep breath, her voice cold. ““Emerie, replace someone to track Millie. I want her out of thepicture.”

After the meeting concluded, Marcus stepped out of the room to replace Derek waiting for him with amessage: Harlan had an appointment with him.

They soon arrived at the private room where Harlan was settled.

Marcus entered and took a seat on the red sofa, his eyes meeting Harlan’s, who was in the midst ofenjoying a drink.

“What’s the matter?”

Harlan set his glass down, his face serious. “I’ve received news from the island. They’re asking for youto accompany me there and receive treatment immediately.”

Without a moment’s hesitation, Marcus refused.

“I can’t leave.”

Harlan took a large gulp of his wine, his voice carrying a note of urgency. “It’s very serious. Eventhough you’ve been lucky, death is still a real possibility.”

Though he had been indifferent to many things, Harlan had grappled with the situation concerningMarcus. He could not let his friend face such a fate.

Harlan couldn’t fathom what could possibly hold Marcus in Preagend.

The business dealings of the Thomas Group paled in comparison to Raven Island’s dealing. Thatexplained Victor’s earnest desire for Marcus to take over the latter.

“I have no love for that place,” Marcus replied in a chilly tone.

“Nothing but darkness. I have no intention of returning after leaving once.”

His words hung heavy in the room, a clear reminder of his unwillingness to revisit a place that had oncebeen cruel to him.

Only Millie’s presence brought warmth into his life.

Harlan chuckled, breaking the silence.

“You’re infatuated with that girl, aren’t you? That’s why you won’t accompany me to the island. Butdarkness is where you shine, Marcus.
