Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance -
Chapter 664
Coleen glanced at her proud daughter and couldn't help but smile without saying a word.
Molly loved to let everyone know about her mom's kindness. As a daughter-in-law, Coleen was beyond reproach. Now, in the village, whenever someone mentioned Juliana with disdain, they couldn't help but praise how wonderful Coleen Byrne was in the same breath. The neighbors nodded in agreement. "It's just shameful. Remember when Molly bought that fancy bracelet for Grandma Sue? Sue cherished it so much she wouldn't even wear it, kept it stored away like a treasure. And then, that woman has the nerve to steal it and sell it!" "What?!" Jade was livid upon hearing that Juliana dared to mess with her things.
Stealing the birthday gift she had carefully chosen for her grandma, Molly's anger flared, and she turned to storm off to confront Juliana. But Coleen quickly stopped her, already aware of the incident but had chosen not to tell her daughter to prevent her from acting rashly. "Molly, it's just a bracelet. Even if it's sold, we can't get it back. We'll buy Grandma Sue another one. Don't be hasty."
"Right, right, Molly, you have to be careful, especially in your condition. You're still early in your pregnancy," someone cautioned.
Molly was struck by lightning. "What?"
What pregnancy?
Coleen was equally shocked. Turning to the crowd, she asked, "Who told you Molly was pregnant?"
The crowd murmured, searching for the source of the rumor, "It was Mrs. Baxter."
Coleen sighed internally. Mrs. Baxter was well-known in the village for her gossiping, the central figure of the local "information bureau."
Sure enough, by noon, many cast curious glances towards Molly's belly.
Even Chad noticed.
His glances shifted from Molly's abdomen to her face and then back to the villagers.
"Chad, you're back, huh?" The village uncles greeted him warmly as they returned from their fields.
Soon after, one suggested, "Chad, we're having chicken for dinner. Why don't you bring Molly over? She looks too thin, needs to eat well, especially now with a baby on the way."
Chad's eyes darted between Molly's belly and her face again. Molly, however, chose to remain silent, amusing herself with Chad's confusion. She looked at him, blinking innocently. Chad was utterly baffled.
"Curious?" Molly finally spoke.
Chad nodded.
"The whole village is convinced I'm carrying your child, even decided how far along I am. All because you helped me out of the car one time."
Officer Chad was speechless.
Molly shared, "Mom and I explained to at least a dozen people, but then she realized that rumors here spread too fast, explanations were futile. So... Mom told me to just stay quiet, saying that's just life in the village." This was the first time Jade didn't know what to do, accepting her new role as a "pregnant woman" by default.
Chad swallowed hard. "Let them talk. With time, rumors will die down. Why don't you rest in the car for a bit?"
Molly could already imagine the gossip, "If I rest now, I'll really look like I'm nurturing a pregnancy."
Officer Chad was at a loss for words again.
Later, at the Byrne family lunch, indeed, many brought nourishing gifts for Molly.
Kendrick was confused. Coleen sighed and explained to her husband, "Just let it be. The whole village believes our daughter is pregnant."
Kendrick, concerned about his daughter's pre-marital reputation, was furious. "Nonsense! My daughter has only been married for a few days."
He managed to send away those who came bearing meals, but Chad accepted a portion. He reasoned, "We're having a simple meal today. Let Molly have something nice."
While others had vegetable noodles, Molly enjoyed chicken soup and meat.
She couldn't resist and occasionally leaned over to Chad's bowl for a bite of his noodles. She also shared her meat with her parents and Chad.
Juliana and Walter avoided Molly completely, staying out of sight whenever she was in the yard and hiding in their room or the bathroom whenever she came inside.
After a previous altercation, Molly had left a lasting impression of fear in them.
Later, Molly intentionally tormented them for a while, forcing them to stay in the old outhouse for over an hour. By the time they came out, reeking, everyone else had finished their meal. When it came to resolving the issue, Molly's phone was dead, and Chad accompanied her to the car to charge it.
"Bro, how do we solve this?" Molly asked.
Chad started the car and opened the sunroof for some fresh air. "Well, it's definitely not going to be as simple as Grandpa thinks. I'm guessing a private settlement is more likely." Soon, Kendrick also escorted his wife outside. "Molly, you and your mom catch up on some sleep in the car. She didn't sleep well last night, don't let her worry about these things." Kendrick was concerned about his wife's well-being.
Molly nodded, "Okay, Dad."
As the father and son dealt with the situation, the women relaxed in the car, gazing through the leaves at the clear blue sky.
A breeze carrying the fresh scent of leaves wafted through the air.
Coleen soon fell asleep, while Molly checked her messages.
Just then, Naomi had posted a video in the group chat of a little one pouting and about to cry, with Naomi's voice in the background, "Oh, look at our little treasure about to cry again, that pout, those drooping corners, Andre Mia, look at your son's pout turning into a full-on cry."
Following was the baby's loud cry, his round, tender face looking incredibly soft.
Everyone in the group found it amusing.
Andre replied in the chat: Naomi, why is he crying again?
Naomi: He's not wearing his bib.
It seemed school was out, as Mia sent a noisy voice message. Molly played it, "Naomi, stop making my son wear a bib while feeding. Our boy is already chubby with hardly any neck. The bib's too tight, making him uncomfortable."
Naomi had never done it before, but on a whim, she decided to get her little nephew started on baby cereal since it was about time he began eating solids.
But who would've thought? The moment they tried, he burst into tears.
Coleen, a light sleeper, heard the commotion and turned around to ask, "Molly, isn't Mia at school? Is Naomi looking after the little one?"
"It's a bit of everything, really. Most of the time, Henry tags along with me and Andre to the office, or we drop him off at the Irvins'. Occasionally, we leave him at home under the watchful eyes of my dad and Naomi. The main issue is, Henry is such a crier and a fusspot. Just look at him, a single hiccup and he's a waterfall," Molly said, enthusiastically showing the video to her mom. The little guy's tear-streaked face was somehow amusing to everyone.
Watching the chubby-cheeked tot, Coleen's eyes twinkled with affection, and then her thoughts drifted to her daughter's future offspring. She mused, "When you and Chad have kids and replace yourselves too busy, your dad and I, once we retire, will be more than happy to step in and help raise them."
