Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance -
Chapter 689
In the comfort of his own company, Leo moved with a freedom others could only dream of. While everyone else stuck to their rigid office hours, Leo wandered in and out as he pleased, and no one dared to question him.
"I'm off to pick up Anya from university. Be back soon," he announced casually, grabbing a folder with confidential meeting notes as he headed to Havenbrook University.
Anya had just finished her classes and, knowing Leo was busy with meetings, didn't expect him to pick her up. She was about to hail a cab when she heard a familiar honk. Turning around, her face lit up at the sight of Leo's car. She ran towards him, her voice full of excitement, "Leo!"
Opening the passenger door, she found it cluttered with documents. Without a second thought, she scooped up the files and settled into the seat as if it were her own.
Leo chuckled as he started the car. "I thought you'd be polite and sit in the back with all these files here."
"The files can go in the back. This spot is mine," Anya shot back without hesitation.
Amused by her assertiveness, Leo complimented, "Not bad, you certainly know your place."
He then asked, "Going back to check on sick Henry, or heading to the office with me?"
Faced with choosing between the adorable little one or spending time with Leo at work, Anya hesitated for all of three seconds before decisively choosing Leo. "Would I be in the way at the office?" "Not at all, but I might have to work late."
"Then I'll stay with you. After all, the little one has plenty of people showering him with love. My affection wouldn't make much difference," Anya joked, her self-awareness shining through.
As they drove, Leo mused, "Yeah, poor me with no one to love but Anya, right?" He glanced over at her.
Anya, her cheeks flushing, mumbled, "Well... Everyone loves you, not just me."
Leo smiled, his thoughts briefly drifting to Mr. Calder's extra attention towards him today. His smile faded as he focused back on the road, wondering if he had indeed made a good impression.
Back at home, Andre had returned to replace his son waking up from a nap, instantly brightening at the sight of his dad and babbling enthusiastically. Andre's usually stoic heart melted as he gently kissed his son's chubby cheek, a rare display of affection that didn't go unnoticed.
Mia, watching the tender scene, cooed at her son, "What's the matter, feeling a little needy today because you're sick?"
The child nestled closer to his father, seeking comfort.
When Leo ended his workday, he chose to visit the Cedillo household instead of attending a corporate gathering, eager to check on Henry's condition, which prompted a family-wide discussion on the little one's health. Bruce, upon hearing of his nephew's illness, declined a dinner invitation, choosing family over social obligations. This decision puzzled his friend until he remembered the connection to Andre's family.
In the office, Noah approached Leo about a leadership team gathering, suggesting he bring Anya along. The idea, however, felt inappropriate given the context and Anya's status as a student, leading Leo to politely decline, stating a preference to stay back in case of urgent work.
Anya, concerned she might be holding Leo back, received reassurance that his aversion to such gatherings had nothing to do with her presence.
Later, opting against ordering takeout due to office rules against eating at desks, Leo instead fetched a basket full of snacks and fruits for Anya, a gesture that did not go unnoticed by their colleagues, sparking rumors about a potential union between the Gordon and Cedillo families.
Despite the whispers, Leo focused on ensuring Anya was comfortable, offering to work from home if she felt bored. Anya, content with playing games on Leo's phone, declined the offer, settling into the evening with a sense of belonging and warmth that only Leo could provide.
"Alright," Anya said, puzzled about something. "Leo, why is it that every time I think I'm falling behind, when I check back, not only haven't I dropped a level, but I've actually gone up?"
The ever-so-sarcastic Leo brushed it off, "The game's glitched."
The ever-trusting and kind-hearted Anya asked, "Should I report this bug to the developers then?"
Leo, who hadn't expected Anya to take his brush-off seriously, had a moment of realization. She wasn't one for jokes; she took every word at face value. "No need to report it. That 'bug' you're talking about is your Leo."
