Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance -
Chapter 755
"Shh, don't tell anyone I said this, but men can be so petty. Even the big shots in the business world!" Mia whispered, her index finger pressed to her lips. Her daughter, with her round, chubby face, mimicked her mom's "shush" gesture, eyes wide with curiosity.
Molly, cuddling her sister's adorable baby, reassured, "Don't worry. I'd never sell out my sisters."
Mia chuckled, "Good thing lying doesn't get you struck by lightning, or you'd be in trouble."
The two lounged in the living room, enjoying the sweet scent of freshly baked cookies, while the men sat outside, sipping coffee and chatting away. Both groups kept to themselves.
At the hotel, Leo was out again, leaving Anya alone to study.
Around seven, Leo got back, takeout in hand. "Why don't you study at home? Why are you here again?"
"My aunt is always worried I'll go hungry or thirsty, and Grandpa always wants me to play board games with him. That's why I came here. Chad, where were you?" "Busy with work." Leo set the takeout on the table. "Pack your stuff in the next few days. I'll drive you home."
"Chad, I'm not leaving. Even if you kick me out, I'll stay at the hotel."
"I'm moving out soon anyway. If you want to stay, stay by yourself."
Anya, determined, said, "Then I'll stay."
Leo tried to scare her, "The hotel is haunted. I won't stay with you."
Anya, facing her mischievous boyfriend, said, "If you're honest, you have nothing to fear. I'm not afraid!"
Leo looked at her, confirming, "Really not scared?"
Anya nodded confidently, "Not scared of ghosts and ghouls."
Leo smiled, "Alright, let's eat and replace a movie to watch."
He opened his laptop and went straight to the horror section. "What movie shall we watch?"
Anya got nervous just glancing at the thumbnails.
As she hesitantly opened the takeout boxes, Leo suggested, "Let's watch this one. It's also about a hotel and supposedly based on true events."
Anya lowered her head further, twirling her fork in her pasta.
Seeing her reluctance, Leo teased, "Scared? You've done nothing wrong; what's there to be afraid of? Come on, I've got a subscription. Let's watch together."
"Chad, save your money. Don't waste it on subscriptions-"
"It's fine. Just the cost of a meal. The movie's starting. Let's watch."
Anya refused to look up.
"Chad, computers are for work. Watching videos will affect its performance. Let's not watch."
"This computer can handle it. Watching a movie is the main event," Leo retorted, providing a running commentary.
He was determined to extinguish Anya's desire to stay at the hotel with him.
Even without watching, Anya could tell what was happening from his lively commentary.
"Look, the elevator doors are opening. Here comes the thrilling part," Leo urged.
Curiosity got the better of Anya, and she sneaked a peek. The screen wasn't as thrilling as the music made it seem, but a sudden freeze frame followed by a shocking image made Anya scream, covering her eyes. Leo, seeing her startled, asked, "Still want to watch?"
Anya shook her head.
Leo continued, "There are more exciting scenes coming up."
Anya shook her head again, her voice soft, "Chad, let's not watch."
Leo turned off the movie, "Don't cover your eyes. I've turned it off."
Anya looked at Leo.
He then started to describe how hotels were built over ancient graveyards to suppress evil spirits, how corridors at night could be haunted, and even began another scary story about an elevator, different from the movie they were watching. "Chad, can't we just enjoy our dinner?"
"My ability to enjoy dinner depends on you listening," Leo said.
Anya, feeling ignored, decided not to engage with Chad any further.
It was getting late, and Anya couldn't shake off the eerie feeling.
Leo, sitting across from her, said, "It's nine. I'm going to shower and sleep. Planning to stay over?"
Anya, fingers intertwined, pouted, "Chad, you have to walk me."
"I won't."
Anya playfully sulked, "Chad, I'm scared of walking through the hallway and taking the elevator." "What's there to be scared of? We're upright and unafraid of ghosts and goblins," Leo teased. Anya was silent.
Leo, enjoying teasing her, continued, "Even if there's a ghost eyeing you right now, no worries. We're bathed in light. Why fear a spectral figure with missing limbs or a bloodied mouth, right?"
Anya grew more frightened by the minute, her gaze darting around as if expecting to see something.
"Chad, please walk me."
"I won't. I'm scared too," Leo pretended, aiming to cure Anya's clinginess.
"If you won't walk me, then I won't leave!" Anya retorted, slipping into disposable hotel slippers and under the covers.
Leo was taken aback, "Hey, if you're in my bed, where do I sleep?"
"That's your problem for not walking me," Anya stated.
"Fine, I'll get another room downstairs. Just so you know, this floor is all mine. If I leave, you'll be alone here."
Anya hid under the covers.
Leo approached the bed, pretending to be a ghost, and Anya screamed, uncovering to see Leo on top of her. She hadn't quite recovered from the shock, "Chad-"
Looking down at her, Leo paused, "Get up. I'll walk you home. No more scares."
"Really?"
"Really."
Leo got up, placed Anya's shoes by the bed, and waited by the door with the car keys.
Anya quickly got ready, and soon, hand in hand, they left the room.
The hallway was empty as they walked.
"Chad, are you scared? Are you really the only one on this floor? Maybe I should stay with you?"
Leaning against the elevator wall, Leo asked, "Not scared anymore?"
"Still scared."
"Then go home and stay safe. After my hotel stay ends, I'm not staying here anymore."
As they reached the ground floor, Leo walked Anya out, ensuring she felt safe.
After getting home, Anya became worried again. "Chad, video call me. I want to see you get into the elevator and make it back to your bedroom."
