Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance -
Chapter 815
Molly wrapped her arms around Chad's strong back, her lips slightly parted as she pressed against his muscular frame, her teeth gently grazing his shoulder. Her breath was laced with a hint of seduction, and her voice was soft and enticing. Just as Molly's plan seemed to be taking off, Chad's phone rang from the nightstand, shattering the moment.
The mundane ringtone was enough to upend all of Molly's carefully laid plans. Chad, the kind of guy who never missed a call, propped himself up, took a deep breath, and reached for his phone. Seeing an unknown number, he answered, "Hello?" "It's me, Annie."
Chad was still on top of Molly, so she was close enough to catch those three words clearly. They exchanged a glance, and Chad sat up, his earlier desire fading fast. "Go on."
This time, Molly couldn't make out what was being said on the other side. Chad quickly tossed off the covers and headed to the bathroom to change, instructing, "Text me the address. I'll be there soon. Keep this low-key to avoid any panic." Seeing Chad on edge from just a call, Molly got out of bed, her clothes askew, and purposefully followed him into the bathroom. "Chad, where are you going?"
Chad, turning his back to his wife to cool the fire she sparked in him, replied, "I need to step out. Get some rest."
After changing, he paused at the bathroom door, taking in Molly's eyes, which were filled with hurt and tears. "Chad~"
That soft call stopped him in his tracks. He turned around, came back, and gently cupped her head, kissing her again. "We'll pick up tomorrow night. That lace was a hit. Try the black one tomorrow-I'm eager to see it."
Molly's cheeks turned a bright shade of red.
With that call, Chad was out the door.
In the middle of the night, as Chad drove off, Molly stood by the window, watching him disappear into the darkness.
Across the ocean, Henry had already snuggled into a deep sleep, while his aunt tossed and turned, unable to replace rest.
Henry was like a little furnace, warm and snug. No matter how cold it was outside, the "little furnace" kept things cozy. Mia, hugging her son, felt no need for the allure of her cool and charming husband. She was content with her little bundle of joy, sweet and adorable-at least when he wasn't crying.
Henry was blissfully asleep, but his aunt felt a chill in her heart, despite the summer heat.
Molly's heart felt submerged in icy waters, her limbs cold.
Feeling out of place in her own room, her mind racing, she changed into her satin pajamas and wandered into the living room.
It was late at night when Coleen, yawning, came downstairs, surprised to replace a figure sitting in the living room. Sitting cross-legged, her skirt spread wide, covering her legs. Coleen was startled for a moment, then recognized her daughter. "Up late instead of sleeping, are you keeping watch over the night?" Coleen teased as she approached.
Molly turned to her mother, still half-asleep. "Mom, I have a question."
"Go ahead." Coleen settled next to her daughter with a glass of water.
"Do you think Chad might be having an affair?"
Coleen was taken aback by the question. "Even if he wanted to, where would he replace the means? You know where all his money goes he doesn't have the resources for an affair." Molly was at a loss for words, her mother's bluntness hitting home.
"But what if it's someone Chad once loved, and now, spending time together, they start to rediscover old feelings? What if old flames reignite? Just hypothetically, Mom~" Molly asked nervously.
Coleen dismissed it. "Who has Chad loved the most if not you? Stop overthinking. Chad, hurry back and take her to bed."
Coleen hadn't realized her son wasn't home.
Molly replied, "He got a call from a colleague and had to go out."
With her son gone and her daughter asking such questions, Coleen's instincts kicked in. "Was it a woman's call?"
Molly bit her lip. "Mom, just go to bed. I'll wait for Chad."
Coleen suggested, "I'll call him."
Molly quickly stopped her. "No need to worry, Mom. Go back to sleep. I know my husband. It was just his colleague, and he's probably busy with something confidential. I was just discussing men with Mia and got curious. Both Dad and Chad love us so much, but could they ever cheat?"
That earned Molly a gentle scolding from her mom. "Nonsense. Your dad and Chad are gentlemen; they'd never do something so awful."
After another round of her mom's scolding, Molly watched her leave.
Mimicking her nephew's playful wobble, Molly leaned against the sofa, lying down, waiting for her husband.
In the rural night, nearby villagers were awake, gathering around the police tape, curious to see what's happening.
The police lights were blinding, and a witness was being questioned nearby.
Some were even filming with their phones. The forensic technician asked an officer to clear the crowd. "Let's get everyone moving along."
Chad stepped forward, showing his badge to gain entry.
Annie was already there waiting, "Take a look at this, could it be a counterfeit machine?"
Chad entered, examining the large machinery with his hands.
Annie explained, "We got a call tonight. A drunk guy, on his way home, took a wrong turn, came here to relieve himself, and stumbled upon something. When he looked down, he saw a half-buried skull and sobered up enough to call us."
As Annie inspected the dark factory, her instincts drew her further inside. The more she saw, the more suspicious it became. Growing more doubtful, she urgently called Chad. "It's Annie."
"Can you come to Lake Village? There's an abandoned factory here, and I suspect it was used for illegal counterfeiting. We need you to confirm."
Chad knew the area was crowded and cautioned her to keep things under wraps. He worried that if the villagers captured a video and it went viral, overhearing their conversation about "fake evidence" could cause a public uproar, even if it was just a hunch. If the evidence turned out to be genuine, public opinion could overwhelm them, making it impossible to focus on solving the case.
Upon his arrival, he entered the abandoned, dilapidated factory Annie had mentioned. Turning on his flashlight, he meticulously inspected the premises. Eventually, his hand brushed against a machine, wiping it down only to replace not a speck of dust on his hand afterward.
