Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance -
Chapter 853
After the nurse left, Officer Chad sat next to his wife, clutching the medical report with hands that trembled slightly. Molly noticed folks passing by, sneaking glances at her and the man in the police uniform beside her. She felt too timid to speak, and Chad's icy demeanor wasn't helping either.
The two of them looked more like a cop escorting a criminal for a hospital check-up than a married couple. Yet, appearance-wise, they seemed like a perfect match. Molly, trying to be discreet, tiptoed and propped herself up, attempting to quietly slide over to another chair. Chad glanced at the report again and, without turning his head, barked, "Sit back down!"
Caught in the act, Jade froze.
"Three."
"Two."
Jade quickly returned to her original seat and said, "Chad, why so serious? The more serious you look, the more people think I'm a criminal and you're the cop."
Officer Chad, in his peculiar logic, replied, "If you lean on my shoulder, everyone will just assume we're a couple. Who would misunderstand then?" Molly: "..."
Why does Chad make even leaning on his shoulder sound so stern?
"Chad, are you upset?"
Officer Chad asked with a cold expression, "Do I look upset to you?"
Molly felt even more intimidated to admit anything with his tone and expression. Chad was buzzing with excitement inside, but while some people cry with joy, others, like Chad, tense up with nervousness.
He was cautious, not wanting to get too hopeful about the "possible" pregnancy the nurse mentioned. The final test results were still pending, so he had to keep his cool. The more excited he got, the more serious he appeared, making Molly think he was upset about the recent fender bender.
She didn't dare lean on him, but Chad reached over, gently pressing Molly's head against his shoulder.
Molly stayed still.
Meanwhile, Mia wasn't checking her phone for her friend's results, thinking, "A little push won't hurt."
Henry was still half asleep, and Andre pointed at his son, saying, "Wake Henry up. If yelling doesn't work, shake him; if shaking doesn't work, tickle him! Otherwise, he'll be wide-eyed like an owl tonight, and nobody will sleep."
Mia, holding her sweet-smelling son, gave him a light kiss, thinking, "Such a little angel."
"I can't bear to wake him."
Andre came over, flicked his son's tiny foot, causing Henry to twitch and pout, roll over, and keep sleeping, thinking the pat was meant to lull him back to sleep.
He dreamt about replaceing his playmate. As he searched, a smile spread across Henry's face. Mia, lying in her husband's rest area, nudged him lightly, "Honey, look, our son's smiling in his sleep. What could be making him so happy?" At the same moment.
"Three weeks pregnant."
Molly: "..." Well, this is something!
Officer Chad collapsed into his chair, like he'd just been through a nerve-wracking final match. His heart had been on edge, fearing the outcome wouldn't be what he hoped for. But when the doctor confirmed the pregnancy, the news he'd been longing for came true. His tension melted away. Leaning back, he rubbed his face, looking at the girl standing there, stunned. Watching her grow up, being by her side as she blossomed into a charming young woman, eventually planning for her to become his wife, and now... the girl from those years was carrying his child.
It felt surreal.
Even though they were in an air-conditioned room, Chad's palms were sweaty. The quiet had been as tense as when he was on a stakeout, where even his breathing needed to be controlled.
Chad stood up, walked over to the stunned girl, and embraced her, ignoring the setting and appearances, leaning down to kiss her.
Molly was dumbfounded. So was the doctor, who hadn't finished speaking!
Henry, having found himself a playmate, grinned and started to whimper when his dad "scolded" him again, his cries gradually growing louder.
The couple, one sitting by the bed, the other cross-legged on the floor, watched the little bundle between them wail.
At the hospital.
Chad, holding all of his wife's medical results, stepped into the car and called his team, "I'll be there soon, maybe half an hour."
Easton: "Where did you go that's taking so long?"
Chad: "Traffic's heavy, I'm driving slow."
After the call, Molly still didn't feel pregnant, as the doctor explained, "This was an accidental discovery. Given how early it is, most wouldn't notice, often thinking it's just a delayed period."
Molly nodded, "Yeah, if Chad hadn't been tracking my cycles after we got married, I wouldn't have known I missed my period for months."
Before marriage, she'd worry about accuracy and health issues. After marriage, she lived without a care for day or night and didn't stress about trying to conceive. Though they were together almost every night, pregnancy hadn't been on her mind until this surprise. Unsure whether to be thrilled or terrified.
"Chad, what if it turns out to be a crybaby like Henry? I don't want to go bald."
Even before the baby was born, Molly was already worried. While her nephew's crying was adorable, it was also exhausting.
Officer Chad: "...It's fine, we'll let the grandparents take care of it."
Molly: "Is that being filial?"
Officer Chad: "I think it's quite filial."
Upon reaching the station, Chad drove slowly. With the final verdict in, there was no room for the other parties to keep fussing.
In the end, after much ado, the man, unaware of Molly's specific condition, feared being accused by her and quickly signed the accident report, admitting his fault.
Molly wasn't ready to let it go, "My car looks fine, but it needs to be checked. What if there's internal damage?"
Indeed, if Molly's car was damaged, the repair costs wouldn't be just a few thousand dollars.
The traffic cop looked at Chad, "Officer Chad, what do you think?" From a glance, there seemed to be no issues, but a thorough inspection could complicate things. Thus, he hoped Officer Chad could persuade his wife. However, Chad simply said, "My wife is right."
Later, the traffic cop had Molly pay a fine because her passenger was a new mother holding her baby.
Molly acknowledged her mistake and promptly used Chad's credit card to pay the fine.
