"Who the heck is it this time? You call yourselves police officers, yet you didn't see a thing?" Easton shouted, his frustration boiling over.

A nurse appeared, gently reminding, "Please keep it down, the patient needs to rest."

Easton stood with his hands on his hips, glaring at the closed door.

Just then, Chad came out of the elevator, wearing his uniform. His hands looked freshly washed, with a few water droplets still clinging to his sleeves.

As soon as he arrived, he commanded in a steely voice, "I need to see the two we brought in today."

Easton couldn't hold back his anger, "What's the point? They're back in the ER. Attacked twice in one night! First, it was their arms, and now, who knows who took out their legs."

Easton was furious, frustrated that the suspects were constantly at risk under their watch. He pointed accusingly at his team, "All this happening right under your noses. Seriously, what are you even here for?" The officers assigned to guard duty hung their heads, bracing for a reprimand.

Chad, unfazed, asked, "Where's the ER?"

Easton pointed lazily, and Chad nodded, "As soon as they're out of surgery, I want to question them. I don't care about their condition-if they can talk, I'm going in."

With that, Chad sat down, waiting patiently but with a chilling calmness.

Chad's demeanor was ice cold. As he leaned back, his silence was so intense that it made the duty nurse's heart race. There's just something about a hero in uniform that captivates you, isn't there? When a girl nervously approached Chad, asking for his contact info, he looked up with a frosty stare, "Married. Happily."

"Sorry!" the nurse stammered, blushing as she scurried away.

Watching the exchange, Easton calmed down a bit. He sat next to Chad, probing, "It wasn't you, right?"

Chad replied, "When you called, I was with Molly. What do you think?"

Easton nodded, "And after that?"

Chad turned to meet his friend's gaze.

"Do me a favor," Easton said. "Andre is your uncle, right? Ask him if he did it. If anyone has a grudge against those two, it's either you or him."

Everyone knew who the target was today. The attack aimed at Andre's sister was one thing; terrifying Andre's little one, another; but injuring Andre's precious darling? That crossed the line.

No average person would let this slide, let alone Andre, a man with such influence. He wouldn't sit back quietly. Only someone like him could pull this off so discreetly.

Chad stared into the night outside, "What do you need me to do?"

"Check with Andre for me tomorrow. I can't report this to my superiors with the suspect in such a state."

Chad nodded, "Alright, but when I do the interrogation, you all need to stay out."

"Deal."

At that moment, the patient was wheeled out of the ER back to the ward.

Taylor was the first to regain consciousness as Chad stepped in, still in his uniform.

"Who are you?" Taylor asked weakly.

Chad moved closer, letting her get a good look at him.

"It's you!"

Then, a knife was suddenly at her throat, "Let's pick up our 'chat' from earlier. Where are the others?"

"Who are you?" Taylor gritted her teeth, wishing she could tear Chad apart.

Chad's knife moved closer, "Ever seen flesh carved out by a blade?"

Standing in the dark room, Chad said, "You can scream, but let's see if anyone outside hears you."

Taylor, exhausted from her ordeals, could barely muster the energy to cry out.

"If you stab me, you won't get away either."

Chad looked at the oxygen tube under hermose, then stepped on it, "You only get one chance to

cooperate. It's life or death for you or him depends on who talks first."

After saying this, Chad lifted his foot slightly, allowing air to flow back to her.

Once Taylor caught her breath, Chad asked again, "Now do you know who I am?"

"Who are you?" Taylor asked, unable to move, feeling defeated.

Chad released his foot, "Molly's husband, Chad."

"It's you!"

Half an hour later, Chad left the room.

Easton rushed over, asking, "Did she say anything?"

Chad glanced at the adjacent ward.

...

After a long, chaotic night, Chad stretched as the clock struck three in the morning.

"I'm heading out. Molly will wake up soon, and if I'm not there, she'll start a fuss."

Easton said, "Don't forget to check on that thing for me."

"Got it."

Chad got into his car and called Donnie, "Hey, are you up?"

Donnie, still groggy, answered, "Barely, but I'm up. What's up, boss?"

"Get to the station."

Donnie had just enjoyed a lovely night with his girlfriend and now had to hurry back to work.

Stephania, half-asleep, saw him leaving, "You've been working non-stop. Do you really have to go back?" Donnie replied, "Must be urgent. The boss wouldn't call this early otherwise. Go back to sleep. I'll lock up."

At the station, Chad tossed a list

vonovel

onto the table, "These are the remaining suspects. Start coordinating with all districts for arrests."

"Do we need to report this?" an officer asked.

Chad shook his head, "Just arrest them."

Throughout the night, police cars rolled out one by one.

Chad stayed behind at the station. In the middle of the night, he called his mom, "Mom, could you check on Molly for me?"

Coleen tiptoed to the bedroom and then back out, "Don't worry, she's sleeping like a rock."

Chad chuckled, "She sleeps through anything, even after an assassination attempt. Let her rest. No need to wake her in the morning."

While everyone else was wrapped in

dreams, police forces across the

districts launched a surprise operation, rounding up criminals

disrupting the peace and threatening security.

Dawn broke.

Chad quietly opened the door, the room filled with a lazy tranquility.

On the bed, Molly slept soundly, undisturbed by anyone.

Sprawled across the bed, she claimed Chad's spot with one arm, as if she owned it.
