Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance -
Chapter 901
Madison stepped into the room to replace her daughter, Mia, amidst a chaotic spread of books on her desk. She was casually flipping through them. "Hey, sweetie, I thought we could have a little chat," she said.
"Let me guess, Henry sent you over, didn't he?" Mia asked, knowing her mother all too well. "Henry probably just fell asleep. My husband's worried about me and figured sending you over would help. If you really wanted to chat, you would've come by earlier, not in the dead of night."
Mia glanced over a book's table of contents, then set it aside and picked up an English workbook, trying to focus on the exercises.
Madison smiled, settling down next to her daughter. "You really do know us well."
"Well, I know Andre pretty well. And I'm sure Henry got a scolding from his dad for staying up past ten. If he doesn't go to bed, dad's sure to give him a hard time," Mia teased, a touch of affection in her voice. "I cried earlier, which must've really bothered my husband. He's probably worried about me feeling upset."
Madison nodded, "I'm here to listen, honey. What's on your mind?"
Mia closed her workbook, her thoughts drifting as she gazed into the night outside. "You know, it's kind of nice. When I was feeling lost, thinking about being a full-time housewife, our family sat together and helped me replace a clear path. I'm sure it's the right one for me." She continued, "Mom, our family might not be as big as the Cedillos, but we're doing quite well." Then, she veered off onto a tangent. "Mom, Cooper and I know you and dad are well-off. You just keep the business stuff from us so we don't turn into spoiled brats." Madison chuckled, "Let's stick to the topic, dear."
"Right, right. So, our family's into business, and so is my husband's. Their empire's big enough they keep things low-key, even thinking about letting the Calder family and others handle some of it. In the future, Cooper's bound to take over. Molly's expected to do the same. Leo's already showing his entrepreneurial skills, branching out even if it's in cybersecurity. Mom, haven't you noticed? Despite our big families, we're all in business except for my eldest brother and Chad, who are in public service."
Madison had to agree with her daughter's observation.
"A family relying on one line of business is risky. A little storm could bring it down. Back when our family was smaller, and Leo had the inheritance weight on his shoulders, we kept things focused. But now, there's room to diversify. I think we should spread into different fields, become top talents in various industries. None of us have tackled law, so why not? I could study it for fun, no pressure from you, and who knows, maybe it'll lead somewhere."
Though Mia's explanation was a bit roundabout, Madison understood her daughter's intent.
"With that kind of thinking, Andre can relax," Madison said.
Mia propped her chin on her hand and teased, "Mom, don't let my husband know, okay? If he thinks I'm still upset, maybe I can get a few more checks out of him."
Outside, Andre chuckled to himself, hearing every word. His little Mia, how could he not adore her?
When Madison left, she found Andre in the hallway, and with a knowing smile, she asked, "Heard everything?"
Andre nodded.
Madison reassured him, "Don't worry, Andre. She's strong. Nothing's going to bring her down."
Andre returned to the guest room, smiling at the thought of how adorable Mia must have been as a child, maybe even more so than now.
The next morning, Mia opened her door and found a check slipped underneath. By now, she was used to it, treating it like a scrap of paper. She headed downstairs, calling out, "Henry? Henry?"
A housekeeper appeared, "Miss, Leo took the young master out."
"And where's Henry?"
"The young master was worried you'd be upset with him, so he left too."
Feeling a bit bored, Mia decided to head back to her room.
At the mall, two striking men and a chubby-cheeked baby made for an eye-catching trio.
"Are you sure this will work, brother-in-law?" Cooper asked, watching Andre, a powerful CEO, pick out gifts.
"We're trying something new. If she doesn't like the good stuff, she'll at least appreciate the expensive," Andre replied. "Why not just give her money?"
Andre, with a knowing smile, said, "Too much money and no gift would seem insincere, like I'm just trying to buy her off." Cooper chuckled, "You're at the top of the business world, yet my sister's got you wrapped around her finger."
Andre examined a bracelet, asking the salesperson, "Can I take a look at that?"
Henry, meanwhile, was drooling over his bracelet, trying to grab at his dad's face. Cooper leaned in, "What's that green stone?"
"That's an emerald, with a ring of diamonds, shaped like a cat's head. It's this year's exclusive model at Havenbrook, just arrived yesterday," the salesperson explained, knowing Andre's reputation. Narugi
Andre compared the bracelet against Henry's wrist, checking the color match. His unspoken point: in this group, only my wife and son have the right complexion for this.
Henry continued gnawing on his fingers while Andre handed the bracelet to the sales assistant, "Wrap it up, please."
"Andre, this bracelet is $98,000. Would you like it gift-wrapped?" the assistant asked.
Andre nodded, handing over his card.
Cooper scratched his head, "Thank goodness Mia's my sister and not my sister-in-law."
He saw how effortlessly Andre bought gifts for his sister, all for her happiness. But if his brother were doing the same for his sister-in-law, Cooper might suggest thinking twice.
Buying a $98,000 bracelet for his wife without a second thought, yet when their son cried over a $9.80 cake, his dad just scooped him up and left. Cooper felt a pang of sympathy for his nephew.
