Sweet Twins Indulge in Daddy's Love -
Chapter 351 Calm Down
It took some time but Doris finally calmed down. She ran her fingers through her hair then buried her face in her hands. She asked herself exasperatedly, "Ugh! Doris, do you love Jay or not?" Dammit! I don't know whether I really love him or not. But it's true that I love money!"
Every time she tried thinking about love, she felt tormented!
She couldn't even look Jay directly in the eyes. They had spent every day together, yet she still had to be cautious around him.
Anyway, today was the day for her antepartum examination. She had already planned on asking Nancy to come with her. But out of the blue, Jay wanted to go to the hospital with her. She didn't quite expect him to take the initiative.
Doris somewhat felt flattered. He was so sweet!
They were in the car when she saw a scene she wasn't expecting to see. As they drove past a coffee shop, she saw Charles sitting across an attractive woman.
"What a jerk! Charles is supposed to get married to Nancy soon. How could he be on a date with another woman?! Stop the car right now! I want to go in and take a look!" Doris was getting so worked up that she ended up shouting.
"Don't be ridiculous! You don't even know the truth yet. Stop jumping to conclusions! What if she's actually a client? What should we do then? Let's not embarrass ourselves." Jay knew Charles better than Doris did. Charles wasn't a man of loose morals. He wouldn't do something so dishonest. However, he couldn't understand why he didn't have an assistant or bodyguard with him. If he was meeting a client, why would he go alone?
This arrangement did seem more like a date! But he couldn't say that out loud, especially to Doris. If he did, she would immediately jump out of the car!
So to prevent this disaster, Jay sped up the car and took her to the hospital as fast as he could.
He honestly hoped that Nancy was in the operating room. If Doris didn't see her today, then maybe she would forget about this whole thing and move on.
But as soon as they arrived at the hospital, the complete opposite thing happened. Nancy was at the front desk because she just accompanied a patient downstairs.
"Hey, Nancy!" When she saw her, Doris walked hurriedly towards the front desk.
Nancy met her halfway and held on to her arm. She thought there had been an emergency. But as soon as she saw Jay, she understood why she was here. "Are you here for your antepartum examination? How have you been?"
Doris seemed anxious. "I'm fine. Don't worry about me. But I wanted to talk to you about something. When we were driving here, I saw..."
Jay immediately interrupted her. This is what he was afraid of. Doris might say something inappropriate. "We have an appointment, remember? The doctor's waiting for you. How about you just catch up with Nancy later, okay?" He began to steer her towards the elevator.
However, Doris pushed him away. "No! What if something happens between Charles and that woman? Nancy deserves to know!"
Nancy was stunned. "Doris, what are you talking about? You saw Charles?" She couldn't believe what she just heard.
"Don't listen to her, Nancy. It's pure nonsense. We're already late for her antepartum examination. Let's go, Doris!" Jay started dragging her away as she struggled to break free from his grasp.
"I've seen it all, Jay. Men are such bastards! We don't deserve this kind of treatment. Why are you stopping me? Nancy needs to know that Charles is doing something inappropriate! Let go of me! I have to tell her!" Doris kept struggling and pushing Jay away. She was causing such a fuss that people were starting to look at them.
Obviously, Nancy felt bothered by this startling news. She grabbed Jay's arm and said, "Jay, let go of Doris. I want to know where Charles is now." She decided that she had to see it for herself.
He was now backed into a corner thanks to Doris' stubbornness. "It must be a misunderstanding. Do you really believe what Doris is saying?" Jay said helplessly. He didn't know what else to say. He didn't wan Nancy and Charles to get into a fight because of this.
"Well, if I shouldn't believe her, are you saying I should believe you instead?" Nancy asked with a serious look on her face.
When he heard that, Jay didn't object anymore. He loosened his grip on Doris and took out his phone to call Charles. However, Nancy snatched it away before he could dial Charles' number. "Jay, drive us to where he is! I need to see it for myself!"
"I'm not so sure about this..." Jay scratched his chin awkwardly. He didn't want to be caught in the middles of this mess.
"Jay, if you really love me, you'll listen to Nancy! Take us there now!" Doris demanded arrogantly. She knew that saying this was a sure-fire way to make Jay agree.
Sure enough, Jay nodded in agreement. When she put it like that, how could he say no? "Fine, I'll drive you there!"
A few moments later, they arrived at the MX Coffee Shop.
For the whole ride, Nancy didn't think too much about it. It must have been a misunderstanding, just like what Jay said.
That was what she thought until she saw Charles with the attractive woman in the coffee shop. They sat facing each other and looking at their mobile phones. It seemed like they were chatting on it. Their actions looked too suspicious! Nancy felt like there was really something going on here.
After parking the car, Jay was feeling a little annoyed. "What are you waiting for? Let's go in there. If you have any questions, you can ask Charles yourself. After this, we can finally go the hospital. I guess this is more important that Doris' appointment anyway," he said sarcastically.
Just as he was about to get out of the car, Nancy spoke. "No! I don't need to ask him anything else." She grabbed his arm and stopped him. She didn't want to go inside and confront him.
It didn't matter whether Charles was dating that woman or not. All she knew was seeing them together had already hurt her!
Nancy didn't get out of the car. She just sat in it and continued to watch.
She could see with her own two eyes that the woman was smiling gently and elegantly! It also seemed like Charles was having fun. Clearly, they were talking about something romantic. She had completely no idea who this woman was. Was it because of her that Charles got mad at her last night?
Her thoughts were a mess and she felt quite torn. On the one hand, she didn't want to keep spying on them anymore. But on the other, she couldn't take her eyes off them.
"Come on, Nancy! Let's go in there and replace out!" Doris begged her restlessly. Aside from satisfying her curiosity, she really wanted to uncover the truth for Nancy's peace of mind.
However, it seemed like Nancy had already made up her mind. "No, I've seen enough. Let's go, Jay!" Nancy said indifferently. She crossed her arms against her chest and looked away. Now that she knew the reason why Charles was in a bad mood, that was enough for her.
"What? Are you sure?" Jay was taken aback. He thought Nancy asked to go here so she could confront them. "Didn't we go here to have a look? It's a mistake. It must be a mistake, right? Let's all get out of the car and ask him, okay?" Even as Jay said it, he was not entirely sure of it himself.
He was hoping that Nancy would get out of the car and ask. But he was also afraid that she would so. He felt thoroughly conflicted! He didn't know which side he was on.
But with a bitter smile, Nancy said, "No, let's go!"
"Are we really going to leave without clearing things up?" Jay felt a little uncomfortable settling things like this. He wished Nancy would confirm her suspicions by directly asking Charles. "Yes, I want to go now! I have to get back to the hospital!" It seemed like Nancy was starting to get annoyed. Jay had no other choice but to concede.
He closed the car door and said, "Fine, we'll drive back to the hospital now." He put his seat belt back on and started the car. As soon as he finished talking, Jay stepped on the accelerator and drove away. "Jay, don't tell Charles what happened today. He doesn't need to know. Let's just pretend like we didn't see anything, okay?" Nancy said calmly while looking outside the window. She was still processing what she just witnessed.
"As I said earlier, this might just be a misunderstanding. If you don't ask him, you'll never replace out the truth. This matter..." Jay drummed his fingers on the steering wheel. It sounded like he wanted to say something more. However, he stopped as though he was having second thoughts.
"But what if it's not a misunderstanding? What should I do then?" Nancy faced him and asked straightforwardly.
This question rendered Jay speechless.
"Yeah, what if we're not mistaken? How else would you explain that?" Doris chimed in since she was baffled by it too.
With a disgruntled look on his face, Jay retorted, "How is that even possible? Charles is a good man. Why would he do that?" He finished his sentence with a nervous chuckle.
"Do you really believe that?" Nancy asked him quite frankly.
At that point, Jay didn't really know how to respond. He didn't want to put Charles in a bad light by accidentally saying something stupid. Therefore, he chose to remain silent.
No one could guarantee that. Even though Jay had known Charles for a long time, he obviously didn't know entirely everything about him.
With that, Doris said derisively, "Why are you asking him, Nancy? He can't even vouch for himself. How can you expect him to vouch for Charles?" They continued the rest of their trip in silence. They went their separate ways as they arrived at the hospital.
Nancy had been deep in thought ever since they left the coffee shop.
All she could think about was the expression on Charles' face as he was talking to that woman. He seemed happy with her.
She wondered if she should take the initiative and be the one to break up with Charles. Or...
No! She needed some time to calm down! She had to sort this out by herself.
After her work shift, Nancy immediately called Edward. She said she was going to B City for a business trip and asked him to take care of her children while she was away.
Edward was startled because he knew Charles and Nancy were supposed to get married soon. Why was she suddenly going on a business trip?
What on earth did Charles do? What happened?
Edward was confused, but he didn't dare ask. Whatever the reason was, it was none of his business. "Okay, I will." He felt like had no other choice but to oblige.
A few days had passed since Nancy left for B City. He still couldn't understand how Charles could ignore Nancy as she went on a business trip with their wedding drawing closer.
It was really strange! He had to replace out what happened.
Edward turned on his phone and searched for the news about Nancy and Charles' wedding. However, he found nothing! Instead, he saw some shocking news. Nancy and Charles had broken up! Their break-up was all over the internet.
A deep crease appeared on Edward's brow. What the hell happened? He pondered over this news for a while.
