Sweet Twins Indulge in Daddy's Love -
Chapter 582 Caught Between Laughter And Tears
"Daddy, I want to take part in the snow camp. Bobby is right. I like the snow very much. I want to play with the snow. I also want to go sledding and skiing. And, and, I also love making snowmen and throwing snowballs." Nadia corrected herself with haste.
Charles could see that Nadia wasn't being honest. Something felt wrong. What was she hiding?
What happened in kindergarten today?
Charles was about to "interrogate" Nadia when suddenly, a car came to a screeching halt in the yard.
Nadia jumped off the chair and shouted in excitement, "Daddy! Mommy is back!"
Charles looked out and saw Nancy getting out of the car.
"Mommy is back. Daddy, are you planning on treating Mommy like last night?" Bobby asked in a somber voice.
"What about last night?" Charles decided to play dumb.
"You are a couple, and I understand, couples fight sometimes. However, I don't ever want to see Mommy unhappy. Daddy, as a man, you should never make a woman unhappy!" Bobby tried his best to show his mature side.
Bobby's tone was nothing short of an elder reprimanding a child for making a mistake.
Charles was caught between laughter and tears.
"Bobby, don't be so presumptuous. One should always think before speaking," Charles said with a smile.
"What? Do you think that I'm not smart enough?"
"No. One should always remain humble," Charles said.
Born Charles and Nancy's excellent genes, how could Bobby be not smart enough?
"What are you guys talking about?" Nancy asked while holding Nadia's hand.
Charles winked at Bobby and said, "We were talking about having a huge feast tonight. Right, Bobby?"
"Yup. Mommy, we were just waiting for you to come back. Wow, my hunger woke up again. What took you so long? You came back so late," Bobby added.
"Umm... Mommy had a really important operation," Nancy said with embarrassment while glaring at Charles.
She wondered if Charles followed her today.
An old adage explained her plight perfectly. If a man was bitten by a snake, he would fear every rope lying in the grass for the next ten years.
"Yes, Mommy had a really important surgery." Charles made insinuations and echoed, "So Mommy is very tired today. You should obediently wash your hands and have dinner now." "Okay, Daddy." The two kids ran into the bathroom, washed their hands, and quickly ran back in.
"Nancy, how is Nana?"
As soon as Nancy sat down, Charles asked with concern.
"Rick said that Nana's illness is not very serious and that she should recover in a month." Without thinking too much, Nancy told the truth to Charles.
"Fortunately, it's not serious. It's good as long as she can recover completely." Charles handed Nancy some chopsticks.
Charles felt a tremor in his heart when he recalled the past. He had inspected every aspect of the club, and his replaceings weren't much different from his initial thoughts. Dale was Derrick's underling. Derrick was clear about David's deal, but to hide it from the public eye, he seldom made appearances.
Had Nana found out the truth, Charles would have been unable to protect Derrick.
Derrick deserved to die, but not now.
The situation right now was very dangerous. If Derrick went to jail right now, it would be a disaster for the Fu family.
"Nana is such a poor girl," Nancy sighed.
"This world has a dark side that not many are aware of. Forget it. You must be tired, so you should eat more." Charles picked up Nancy's favorite food for her.
"Thank you," Nancy said with subtle politeness.
Bobby and Nadia looked at each other. Their Mommy and Daddy treated each other so well.
"You're welcome." Charles smiled.
The smile hid the flash of uneasiness that floated in his eyes. Charles didn't want to hurt Nancy, but at the same time, he wanted Derrick to live. His feelings were in a mess. "By the way, do you know who I did the surgery for today?" Nancy asked as if testing out the waters.
By this, she wanted to confirm whether Charles was still keeping an eye on her or not.
"I" Charles almost blurted out, "I know."
Fortunately, Bobby interrupted Charles in time. "Daddy, this vegetable is a little salty."
"Oh, I will add less salt next time," Charles said.
Nancy suspiciously looked at Charles.
Burying his head in the food, Charles said, "How could I know?"
In fact, what Hiram had reported to him was that a seven-year-old boy had a car accident and was seriously injured. It was quite likely that Nancy had to operate on him till late.
As for the peculiarities, Charles was clueless.
"That child is only seven. It's so heartbreaking. Fortunately, we could save his legs. His father is a policeman and was away on a mission when the accident happened. Afterward, he kept on blaming himself for the accident. Alas!"
After saying that, Nancy sighed.
"A policeman?" Charles frowned and asked, "He was on a mission today?"
"Yes. Is there anything wrong?" Nancy asked, confused.
"Nothing is wrong. Come on, let's eat." Some policemen went to the club today. Was that child's father one of them?
What Charles feared the most now was some policeman asking Nancy about the situation at the club.
"Okay, let's eat." Nancy was standing for the entire day today. So she was exhausted and famished.
After dinner, Nancy wanted to go to bed early.
Seeing her tired face, the children decided to cancel their nighttime story session.
Of course, Charles deserved some credit too. When Nancy was taking a shower, Charles beckoned the children to his side and said, "Did you see how tired Mommy is after an entire day of work? You two go to bed early tonight. Don't ask Mommy for a bedtime story, okay?"
"We can stop Mommy from accompanying us, but what about Daddy? Don't you need Mommy's company?" Bobby asked with a snicker.
"Well... You're right. Your Mommy requires a good night's rest. So I'm gonna sleep in the guest room."
"Hmm... Seems fair. I'm going to sleep. I'm sleepy." After saying that, Nadia yawned and walked into her room.
However, Bobby stood still and gawked at Charles.
"Bobby, why aren't you going to bed?" Charles asked, curious.
"I won't go to sleep before seeing Daddy sleep in the guest room," Bobby said.
"Bobby, are you really my son, biological son? Why do I feel that we are actually my rival?" Charles asked with a tinge of frustration.
Bobby smiled and said seriously, "I'm your son, but I'm also Mommy's son. You have done a paternity test, haven't you? Since I'm her biological son, am I not more important than you to Mommy?"
"You- What twisted logic! How can someone of your age have such a glib tongue?" Huffing and puffing, Charles walked to the guest room, feeling helpless.
