Swept Into a Fairytale Marriage 64
Chapter 64 Don’t Want to Talk About the Past
Trusting people was never in Adrian’s nature. If even his own mother was unreliable, how could anyone expect him to believe in love? Especially when marriages often fell apart when things got tough.
“If it feels awkward, you can put the cream on yourself.” Farrah stood up, holding out the tube of cream while looking down at him.
“I’m not trying to be nice or anything. You’re my partner, and we’re stuck together for the long haul. I just want you to be healthy because we’ve got to work together. Consider this a professional courtesy.”
Adrian’s mind went into overdrive. This woman knew how to beat about the bush. What was she saying. exactly? That she had no intention of falling for him?
Ignoring the offered cream, he frowned at her. “Why did you say that I don’t wash my feet?”
Here it was. Farrah knew he was definitely going to make her pay for this.
Her mind raced to figure out a way out of this.
Pouting slightly, she shrugged. “It was an emergency You saw how hard your grandpa went after you!! didn’t have time to think of a better excuse to help you
“Then, why didn’t you say you had stinky feet and I couldn’t stand to share a bed with you?” Adrian’s voice was cold, like he was genuinely annoyed.
Farrah’s nerves frayed. Was he really going to keep bringing this up?
Adrian studied her for a moment, then seemed to decide to drop the matter.
His expression softened slightly, and he started to unbutton his shirt. Farrah, startled, immediately turned around. “What are you doing?”
Adrian paused, clearly surprised by her action. “How else am I supposed to put on the cream? You said my back’s bruised.”
“Oh,” Farrah muttered, suddenly realizing how stupid she sounded.
“Right. Go ahead.” She took a deep breath and tried to calm down. “Just.. let me know when you’re ready.”
Adrian rolled his eyes. “It’s not like you haven’t seen me like this before.” He tossed her a teasing look over his shoulder. “You weren’t shy the last time you had your hands all over me.”
Farrah’s cheeks flamed.
After a while, Adrian took off his shirt. His back really did hurt, especially when he moved his arms too much. “I’m done,” he said.
When Farrah turned back around, her breath hitched at the sight of his bruised back. Red marks were crisscrossed along his skin, stark and painful–looking. Clearly, Philip hadn’t held back.
Farrah had medical training, so she knew exactly how much pressure to apply as she massaged the cream into Adrian’s skin, careful not to hurt him.
Adrian sat still, feeling the warmth from her fingers as she worked. His lips remained a tight line, refusing to give away any emotion..
Farrah decided to take the opportunity to ask about the man she saw earlier. “So, who’s this Jordan guy?” She was hoping to gather a little more information as the mystery surrounding the Locke family was really starting to intrigue her
Chapje (4 Dont Warid to Talk About the Past
Adrian didn’t respond immediately..
Sensing his silence, Farrah added quickly, “He saw me today, so I think our secret marriage might not stay under wraps for long.”
“He’s been fired.” Adrian’s tone was sharp and cold. “He won’t be back at the company.”
Farrah’s heart skipped a beat. Fired?
She bit her lip, trying to piece together the situation. However, she kept her thoughts to herself. “What’s your relationship with him, exactly?”
Adrian’s response was curt. “He’s Aunt Jennifer’s son.” There it was again–that cold, guarded tone, warning her not to dig any deeper.
Farrah knew when to stop pushing.
She shifted gears mentally, realizing that if she wanted to uncover the real story about Adrian’s parents, she’d have to ask someone else. Maybe Philip would be more willing to share.
Adrian, meanwhile, was grappling with his own thoughts. If Jordan had come to Locke Manor today, why hadn’t Philip said anything about it?
Normally, Philip would bring something like that up. The fact that he didn’t mention it made Adrian uneasy, as if something larger was brewing.
Farrah finished applying the cream and gently smoothed her hands over the bruises. “So, want to tell me about your great love story?”
“No comment,” Adrian stood up as he spoke in a flat voice. He started buttoning his shirt again. He had no interest in rehashing old wounds. The subject of his family was a closed door, and the same went for his past relationships.
Farrah didn’t push further. She closed the first aid kit and casually mentioned, “By the way, I’m going shopping with my friend tomorrow.”
Adrian didn’t react. He just left the room without saying a word, like her plans were of no consequence to him.
As Farrah put away the first aid kit, she headed to the closet to grab her pajamas. After a long day, she was more than ready for a hot shower.
Back in his study, Adrian leaned back in his chair, his face shadowed with thought. He pulled out his phone, his expression unreadable as he dialed a number.
His voice was low and commanding as he gave his instructions, “I want you to dig into Mark’s mother’s medical history. Find out what illness she had and how it was treated.”
