Talented Martial Hero -
Chapter 1297 Relieved
"Don't look so surprised.”
Watching Darren's brows arch up in response to his shock made Akbar give his forehead a flick.
"I never expected that you, such a dignified lord, would turn out to be an assassin.”
"I used to be one when I was young. Besides, it's not easy to become a top assassin. One has toassassinate at least three warriors at the top level of the Celestial God Realm before they can takepart in the examination. Only after going through with the strict examination can one be promotedto the rank of a top killer. The status of a top killer is equal to the Left or Right Guard of the BloodAbyss Sect, only second to the leader of the Blood Abyss Sect,” Akbar explained, puffing his chestout with pride.
"Does that mean you're one of the senior leaders of the Blood Abyss Sect?"
"Of course, I am. Except for the leader and a selected few top killers, no one dares to defy my orderswhen they see my token." Akbar spoke in a dignified manner.
"Okay, I get it. I'll take it." Darren chuckled, watching Akbar boast before he placed the tokensecurely in his Space Ring.
"Don't forget to bring it back to me once your issue is resolved.”
"Don't be so obnoxious. You can't go out anyway, why not just let me keep it instead?" The tokenwas of significant value. Once Darren laid his hands on it, he would naturally want to keep it tohimself.
"Have it your way then, keep it for as long as you like. But I must forewarn you, you won't survivemore than three months out there," Akbar blurted out, his steady gaze testified how serious he was."You don't have to be so rude to me all the time. After all, I am your big brother. I just need thistoken from you. Is that too much to ask? Why must you kill me for it?" Darren said jokingly, attempting to clear the tension between them.
"Oh, it won't be me who kill you for it. It'll be someone else. Do you honestly think possessing thistoken is just like having any other ordinary item? Once the others catch wind of it, they will want tosnatch it from you by any means necessary. Some won't even hold back. They'll be coming at youwith everything they've got. Back when I was still an assassin, I had over a hundred thousandenemies. Any one of them could appear before you and rip your head clean off your neck beforeyou could even react. If you have what it takes to survive the consequences that come with wieldingthis token, by all means, keep it.
Besides, there's also the possibility of the Blood Abyss Sect appointing a task while you still have thetoken. You will have no other choice but to get it done. If you fail to do so, the leader of the BloodAbyss Sect will see to it himself that your existence is wiped clean off the surface of this world.”Akbar listed the consequences without hesitation.
An unsettling feeling sprouted in Darren's heart as he quietly listened to Akbar's warnings. “Thisthing may have its benefits. But I can't overlook the fact that the bad overweighs the good here. This should be called the suicidal token instead! I guess I'd better return it as soon as my problemresolves, ' Darren thought, sighing to himself.
"You said the Blood Abyss Sect would kill the person with the token if the task they assigned isn'tfulfilled, right? Then how come you're still in one piece. You can't go out. How do you manage it?"Darren asked the first question that came to mind.
"I'm not assigned any to begin with. But if the token were to be in someone else's hands, that's anentirely different scenario. Anyway, it's your choice whether you want to return it or not. But if youkeep nagging me with your questions, I'll take it back."
"No, please. I'm sorry, I'll stay quiet now."
As long as Darren possessed this token, he was invincible. Even if Maxwell were to send the mastersof the Blood Abyss Sect as reinforcements, Darren could dispose of them without a hitch.
"Oh, one more question, if you don't mind," Darren said cautiously, avoiding Akbar's piercing gaze."Spill it already!" Akbar retorted impatiently, shooting an exasperated look at Darren.
"Well... Can I use your token to order other disciples from the Blood Abyss Sect?"
"Theoretically you can.” Akbar rubbed his chin and added, "But they will see through your strengthat a glance. Moreover, they'll be able to tell that this token doesn't belong to you. They might beafraid of the powerful me behind you, but it's not likely that they will listen to you."
"Huh? Seriously? Well, in that case, it isn't as useful as I thought it would be."
"Insolent fool! It's only natural that they won't listen to you right away. But if they dare to make amove against you, I'll personally send a message to the Right Guard of the Blood Abyss Sect. He'llhandle those people for you. He's reliable, he won't refuse my call.”
"Oh, that sounds reassuring.”
With all his concerns subdued, Darren put away the token in his Space Ring and prepared to set out.But before he could leave, his mind wandered off to another possible outcome that stopped him inhis tracks.
"Wait, there is one more thing that's bothering me. Maxwell is quite resourceful, and he's one of thebest, even among the warriors at the upper-level of the Celestial God Realm. If he asks the strongwarriors of the Blood Abyss Sect to assist him in breaking the array while he keeps us engaged in aconfrontation with himself, we'll be rendered helpless.” Imagining the strife in his head, Darrenvoiced his distress to Akbar.
"That doesn't concern me." Akbar shook his head and raised his hands, signaling his disinterest."Please, we need your help. If you have anything as valuable as the token, lend it to me. By the way,do you have the kind of armor that can make me invincible against the attacks of the warriors at theupper-level of the Celestial God Realm? I need ten of them,” Darren asked, raising all ten fingers inAkbar's face.
"Fuck off." Akbar's expression stiffened when faced with Darren's unwavering persistence.
"No need to be so heartless. Do you have anything that could remotely make it easier to confrontthe warriors at the upper-level of the Celestial God Realm? I just need a yes or no. It's a matter oflife and death. If it helps, I promise to repay you in full for everything you ever did for me. I'll foreverbe indebted to you. I'll even dispose of your enemies in the future when I'm stronger," refusing togive up, Darren put aside every ounce of his pride and requested Akbar relentlessly.
"Cut the crap. I've already thought this one through. By the time you get stronger, I'd have alreadykicked the bucket at the hands of that old bastard. You're far from being reliable. When I found outyou had a special God Character, I was overwhelmed with joy and made you my sworn brother. Butlater, when I got time to process my thoughts, I realized you're of no use to me. So, I abandoned allhopes that I once tied to you," Akbar confessed brusquely, without any concern for Darren'semotions as he sipped on his tea, sitting cross-legged.
"That's hurtful... Even if I'm useless, it doesn't change the fact that we're sworn brothers. You can'tdeny that we're related.”
"There you go again, spewing nonsense. I can't figure out how we're related.”
"If my memories serve me right, Aaron is your disciple, right?" When his thoughts drifted to Aaron, awarm smile spread across Darren's face. "How's he doing?”
"Nothing worth boasting over. He's only cultivating in seclusion.”
"It still surprises me how Aaron is the son of a supreme god. You're truly fortunate to have someonelike that as your disciple!" Darren said casually.
As those words escaped his mouth, Akbar froze in place and stared Darren down with his browsraised high. "How do you know that he is the son of a supreme god?"
"I don't. I guessed it. My avatar came across a child in an abyss who had a striking resemblance toAaron. The child is the son of a supreme god, so I proclaimed Aaron to be the same.”
"They looked exactly the same? No wonder!" As if a switch went off in his mind, Akbar got upsuddenly and paced back and forth anxiously.
"What are you doing? Is something wrong?" Watching Akbar suddenly go to war with his thoughtscaught Darren off guard.
"It's nothing." Soon, Akbar's wave of excitement subsided, and he calmed down. "Alright. I'll provideyou with one more item that you'll replace useful. But, in exchange for it, I want you to bring me thisother Aaron you speak of."
"Of course, anything! He is currently with my avatar. If I survive, I'll bring him to you. But it'll take afew days for me to return.” Unbeknownst to Akbar, Darren was telling a white lie to deceive him intolending him the item. Donovan was actually left in Yama's Prefecture, and he was under his watchinstead.
"Haha, good boy. Alright then, it's settled. You have yourself a deal.”
"Tell me about this item that you mentioned,” Darren said, his eyes brimming with curiosity.
"Well, look behind you," Akbar said, guiding Darren with his gaze.
To his surprise, there was an armor sitting neatly behind Darren.
The armor was painted with a charred-black color, giving it an intimidating vibe. On top of that, dark halos were circulating around its surface.
"So, you've already arranged it..." The armor had been sitting patiently behind Darren the entiretime. Soaking its view in, Darren understood Akbar never intended to send him off empty-handed."Is this thing durable enough to endure the relentless attacks of the warriors at the upper-level ofthe Celestial God Realm?" Darren asked, tapping the armor with his fingers to check its sturdiness."Of course, it can't if someone as weak as you were to wear it. Don't you have a friend who's at themiddle-level of the Celestial God Realm? Let him wear it instead. He will definitely be able to resistthe attacks from the warriors you speak of. As for whether those enemies can be killed, the armorcan't decide the fate of the battle. It depends solely on your friend's abilities,” Akbar said, his handsclasped behind his back.
"Okay, I get it now. Thank you." Darren nodded, and then he put away the armor with the token."Now that everything is sorted, I'll be on my way. Master Murphy must be waiting for me to comeback bearing good news!" To bid Akbar a proper goodbye, Darren saluted him out of respect andgratitude.
"Just leave already.” Growing impatient, Akbar waved his hands frantically to dismiss him.
Darren gave the annoyed Akbar a warm smile before turning his back towards him and walkedaway.
Once Darren was out of sight, Akbar's irritated expression loosened, and he nodded to himself."This boy actually managed to obtain another God Character. God must be looking out for me, afterall," Akbar muttered to himself, as a relaxed smile formed on his lips, without him realizing.
