Chapter 103

This was where she had fallen.

Now, the blood had been washed away by the servants, the steps gleaming clean, as if all traces of the incident had been erased.

Reflecting on the events, Letitia felt more convinced that Shela had planned it all

Causing a scene at the entrance, forcing her to show up, deliberately bringing up the visit to Malinda to stir up her emotions, edging closer and closer, pushing her to the brink of the stairs.

“Mrs. Ramirez, the butler’s voice broke the silence, “You’re back.”

She nodded faintly, “Yeah. But I feel like I don’t belong here anymore.”

“You’re still Mrs. Ramirez.

“Do you believe me?” Letitia looked at the butler, “Do you think I caused Shela’s miscarriage?”

The butler replied, “I believe in you, Mrs. Ramirez.”

Letitia smiled. No matter how bleak or tragic life gets, there’s always someone with a heart of gold.

“But everyone believes me except for Elgin.” She sighed, “He said, I personally killed his child, and now the Sanders family owes him another life.”

There’s always a way to replace evidence, to clear your name, Mrs. Ramirez”

“It’s not that easy Shela has covered her tracks well, there’s no flaw to pick at…”

Unless Shela herself admits it, but that’s hardly likely.

Returning to the servants quarters, Letitia, worn out in body and soul, quickly fell asleep.

After an unknown stretch of time, feeling as though someone was watching her, her intuition tingling, Letitia opened her eyes to replace Elgin standing by the bed.

Startled, she scrambled to the corner of the bed, “When… when did you come in?”

Elgin just looked at her with a blank expression.

As soon as he got home, he came looking for Letitia, wanting to confront her, to punish her severely, to see her helpless and powerless. But seeing her sleeping so peacefully, it was weird, but all his anger just melted away in that moment. He didn’t wake her up, just silently watched her as she slumbered.

It wasn’t until she woke up that Elgin went back to his cool demeanor, the tenderness in his eyes as if it had never been there.

“You sure are sleeping like a baby,” he started, “Aren’t you troubled by a guilty conscience or plagued by nightmares?”

“I’ve got nothing to hide, I’m sleeping just fine.”

Elgin raised an eyebrow, “Is that so?”

“For the last time, I didn’t cause Shela’s miscarriage, I’m innocent,” Letitia locked eyes with him, “I can’t prove it now… but, I will replace the evidence to clear my name.”

The room fell into silence.

Thinking he didn’t believe her, Letitia quickly added, “Just give me a little time!”
