Taming The CEO The Escaping Wife -
Chapter 174
Chapter 174
He leaned in close, listened intently, and confirmed that Elgin was murmuring “Letty.”
“Who’s Letty?” Hawley asked, “Could it be… Letitia?!”
The butler nodded, “Yes. The only word Mr. Ramirez has uttered during his unconscious state hasbeen ‘Letty.””
So no one was better suited than Letitia.
After a moment of contemplation, Hawley let out a sigh, “Alright, get Letitia over here!”
Upon hearing it, the butler was over the moon.
“But the second Elgin wakes up, she’s outta here,” Hawley added, “That’s the deal!”
Phedra wasn’t thrilled and shot the butler a nasty glare.
At the Ivory Towers, Letitia stood by the window, looking out at the sky.
Three days had passed already. Why hadn’t Elgin woken up….
His arm was injured and he had blood transfusions in time. He should have been up by now.
Too bad she couldn’t be by his side, all she could do was fret.
Suddenly, a car pulled in, and the bodyguard hurried over, “Ma’am.”
Letitia turned to him, “What’s up? Is Elgin awake?”
“You are agreed to be with Mr. Ramirez at the hospital.”
“Really?!” Letitia’s eyes lit up, “Great, I’ll head over right now!”
She was so thrilled that she didn’t know what to say. Then, she made a beeline for the door, notwanting to
waste a second!
Rushing to the hospital room, Letitia found only the butler there.
“Ma’am, you’ve arrived.”
“Yep!” She nodded, “How’s Elgin?”
“His vitals are improving, but he’s still out cold.”
Letitia sat by the bed, her palm gently resting on the back of his hand.
She dared not move too much for fear of touching his wounds.
“Letty…” Elgin murmured again in his sleep.
“I’m here, I’m right here,” Letitia responded immediately, “Can you wake up already?”
Watching this, the butler discreetly left, giving the two some space.
Truth be told, Letitia was Mr. Ramirez’s best medicine.
Elgin fluttered his eyelids, “Letty, Letty.”
He kept calling her name, and she kept answering.
Letitia, with gentle care, used a warm towel to gently wipe Elgin down, moistening his lips with a cottonswab dipped in warm water now and then.
When she had a moment, she’d chat with him.
“Look, it’s so sunny today. If you woke up, I could take you out for some sunshine.
I
“your hand will be fine, I’m sure it’ll heal. And if… if it doesn’t work anymore, it’s okay, I’ll be your lefthand
“Elgin, you’re too proud, aren’t you? Can’t accept an imperfect version of yourself?”
“I just remembered, when I jumped into the lake, you stayed by my bedside, babbling away, hoping I’dopen my eyes.”
Sometimes Letitia had no idea what she was babbling about.
As night descended, she snatched a hasty meal. Just as she was preparing to wash herself, Elgin’svoice echoed out, calling for her. “Letty, Letty…”
“I’m here.”
This time, after she answered, Elgin’s fingers twitched slightly.
Letitia saw it clear as day.
She hurried over, “Elgin, Elgin, I’m here, look at me, I’m safe and sound, don’t you want to see foryourself? Wake up, please, everyone’s waiting for you, me especially.”
Under Letitia’s eager gaze, Elgin slowly opened his eyes.
He was awake!
Letitia was so moved that she was lost for words.
All she could do was to reach out and slam the call bell, signaling the doctors to come quickly.
Elgin’s gaze was unfocused, staring at the pristine ceiling.
Soon, the room was filled with the hustle and bustle of footsteps as doctors, nurses, and the Ramirezfamily swarmed in.
“Quick, Mr. Ramirez is awake.”
“Check the monitors, his heartbeat.”
“Elgin, you’re finally awake, you had us worried sick!”
A cacophony of voices filled the room, it was noisy and chaotic.
But the voice Elgin had been longing to hear… was conspicuously absent.
Where was the person who kept saying “I’m here”?
“I’m here.”
“I’m here.”
Where had the person who should have been there gone?
Elgin turned his head slightly, scanning the crowd around his bed.
Her grandpa, Phedra, the butler, doctors, nurses… but no sign of Letitia.
Where was she?
Elgin’s eyes swept over them, a profound disappointment setting in.
Was it all a dream? A hallucination? Had Letitia never been there at all?
Elgin slowly closed his eyes again, furrowing his brow deeply, “Letty…”
At that moment, Letitia was pushed to the outside.
Surrounded by the crowd, she couldn’t see Elgin’s condition or hear his faint voice.
He was awake
So, she wasn’t needed here anymore.
Hawley would lock her back up in Ivory Towers…
Letitia watched their backs with a serise of loss. How she wished to be the first person Elgin saw whenhe opened his eyes.
Because she was the one he had fought so hard to save, and seeing her would have given him peaceof mind.
But with so many people, she couldn’t squeeze in.
Letitia stood silently, unobtrusively on the sidelines.
Finally, the head doctor breathed a sigh of relief, “Mr. Ramirez is out of danger for good. However, theinjury to his arm is severe. It’ll need at least six months of care.”
Hawley asked, “Will it affect his future life?”
“If he recovers well, it shouldn’t. For the next two years, he mustn’t lift heavy things or engage in anystrenuous activities.”
That’s good to hear.”
Then, Elgin’s voice broke the silence, “Where’s Letitia?”
His voice was hoarse and raw as if his vocal cords had been torn, but he managed to articulate thosewords.
Where was Letitia? He needed to see her.
Hawley paused for a while before answering, “Elgin, you’ve just woken up, lie still for now, your hand…”
Elgin cut him off, repeating, “Where’s Letitia?”
His gaze sharpened, sweeping towards the butler standing by.
Letitia couldn’t possibly not be at the hospital. Unless… she had no heart.
Elgin’s memory is stuck right at the kidnapping scene. He has no clue how long he knocked out, orwhat’s up with Letitia right now.
She was safe back then, but the gash on her cheek was like a thorn in his side, eating him up step bystep!
“The missus is out there, Mr. Ramirez,” the butler turned back and pointed outside, “The crowd was sothick just now, they pushed her right outside.”
Elgin glanced up.
Bam! His eyes locked with Letitia’s.
The time seemed to be frozen then.
They just eyeballed each other without a single word.
But in each other’s peepers, they saw the reflection of their souls.
Some loves needn’t be shouted from the rooftops. A look could say it all.
…Come here.” Elgin finally broke the silence, cutting to the chase.
