Kenzi had her peachy plums in the oven baking. They smelled heavenly, at least they did to her. Then again she thought a lot of things she made smelled good. It was about an hour after the boys had left, she thanked them for cleaning up and promised that as soon as she got the peachy plums done they could have some. She was now in the process of filling more tart shells with the berry compote she had made. Odin was resting his head on the back of the couch watching her in the kitchen, every once in a while he would let loose a whimper.

“I’m almos done. You don’t has to stay, you can go chase the bunnies if you want to.” She looked up at him, though she said he could go, the look on her face told him she really wanted him to stay. He settled himself more into the couch, the thought of chasing bunnies around the woods was enticing, but he wanted to be with her.

“Can I tell you a secret?” Always! Odin sat up straighter and nodded his head. “You promise not to tell no one?” I promise! What…. Odin didn’t let Adonis finish the question he was about to ask, before he put the block up. Odin! Odin! That fucker blocked me!

“I was a lit-tle scarded at the bakery today. This morning when I was there all by myself. I was jus being silly though. A silly stupid girl.” ….grrrrrr…. Her eyes snapped to him after he growled at her. She didn’t know what happened or what she said, but something upset him.

“I-I’m sorry I didint mean to upset you” she put her head down and went back to preparing her tarts. Odin pulled himself from the couch and entered the kitchen circling around her pushing her from the counter he rested his head over her shoulder and hooked his paw around her. She threaded her fingers through his fur and held tight to him. Stop calling yourself stupid! My mate is not stupid! She is smart and special and sweet and I love you! They stood like that for a bit, she felt the fear leave her body as she clung tight to the pitch black wolf in her kitchen. Kenzi didn’t know why, but he was comfort and protection and she found the same safety wrapped around him that she felt in the arms of Adonis.

“Can I tell you some-thing else?” Yes! Odin moved back to the couch when he felt her fear subside. He knew she wasn’t afraid of him, she was afraid of what happened to her.

“There’s a guy!” She looked up and Odin perked his ears. Guy? “He makes me laugh and he’s nice to me. I like him, like, like him, like him. But he scares me, not boogey-man scares me, but scares me. I could lose myself, but in a good way. And I want to, but I think….I think I’m seeing more than what’s there. I think….I think he jus wants to be friends. I don’t has many friends, so….if that’s all he wants to be, then that’s ok. Who couldint use more friends right? It’s ok, it has to be ok.” He sounds stupid! Not fully paying attention she brought her hand down and the spoon she was using was right there. Compote splattered her face, the front of her dress and chest.

eeeep!” She squeaked out the little sound and stood there mouth open at what just happened. She could feel the compote sliding down the front of her and under the dress, but the shock of what just happened hadn’t fully registered yet. Odin went wide eyed as he watched the compote slip down the inside, lost in the movement, he lost the block he had up separating him from Adonis. NO ODIN! Adonis thundered and pushed for immediate control; Odin didn’t even fight.

“At least it tastes good, I think it does anyway,” she said to herself as she licked her lips. Moving to her sink she started to wipe the compote off her face and hands. Trying to get it off her dress was going to be another story.

Dabbing at the mess on her dress she still hadn’t touched what was on the inside yet when her doorbell rang. She froze in the kitchen staring at the door. Who would be here at this tine? Hardly anybody comes here! She thought. When the doorbell rang again she looked at the wolf on the couch he was sitting up and fully alert. Both moving towards the door, Adonis stayed hidden behind it, he wasn’t about to let her answer it without him. Truthfully if her wolf hadn’t been there, she wouldn’t have answered the door at all.

“Hello?” Kenzi questioned as she opened the door. A man in a uniform stood on her porch staring at her. His eyes darted to her chest and the splattered berry mess that had seeped down the slight cleavage she was revealing. Eyes up asshole! Adonis could see him eyeing her through the door, he was fighting the urge to growl and make himself known. He watched the man unconsciously licked his lips before his eyes snapped back to hers.

“Uh….Kenzi Templeton?” He asked, swallowing hard, moving his eyes back to her chest. Growl, he’ll just think she has a really big dog!

“Yes, that’s me” she replied,

“This is for you” he handed her an envelope and a clipboard for her signature. “You have to sign it” he said pointing to where her signature is supposed to go when she looked at him with confusion on her face.

“Oh, sorry” she scrawled her signature on the line and handed the clipboard back. “What is it?” She asked, turning the envelope over in her hands.

“I don’t know miss. I don’t open them, just deliver them.” he responded ….grrRRrrrRRrrr…. Came from behind the door, causing the man’s eyes to widen and step back from her.

“Thank you, have a good night” He spoke quickly as he turned and left her standing there.

“You too!” She called after him and stepped back inside, closing the door behind her. “Really? Was that needed?” She asked her wolf. Yes!/Yes!

Placing the envelope on the counter to deal with later, she went back to cleaning up after the mess. With no more compote she had to come up with something else. Heading upstairs with Adonis right behind her to replace something else to wear and clean the compote up under her dress she’d think of something.

“Maybe chocolate, caramel and marshmallows, that would taste good with a but-ter rum crust, it could be like the graham cracker, and be like a s’more. What do you think?” She spoke as she reached into her closet and found a t-shirt to change into. Just thinking about the tasty treat had his mouth watering, Adonis licked his chops to stop the drool from dropping. Not that easy is it? Shut up! She grabbed a quick shower to clean the berry mess off of her and she headed back to her kitchen to finish with her tarts. Getting another pot she grabbed some chocolate and marshmallows she would melt them together then she would top it with a salted caramel.

“That does sound good,” she said to herself as she got back to work. At this point she was also beginning to get tired, she would look at the mysterious envelope tomorrow. Whatever it was, there wasn’t anything she could do about it tonight. With all the tarts in the oven, her house smelling of so many delicious aromas and the kitchen cleaned up again she went and sat by her wolf on the couch.

“Dinner was fun, I has a good tine.” Then we need to have more dinner parties! Adonis curled up beside her, his head in her lap. She gently stroked his soft fur. “I might need to get more dishes though, poor Tyler had to eat out of a bowl” He was fine! “I was ass-cited to use all my dishes, preddy silly right?” Not at all! “I used them all the uther day too, but I don’t think it….” Registered! “Um….I don’t think it….” Registered! “….sinkded in, I think that’s right.” It is! “A lot happended that day. I has my first sleepover. I really hope I behazed myself, I don’t member it” You did. Aside from kissing me! “I think he’s jus a friend though, and that’s ok. It has to be ok. You can always use more friends, and I don’t has many, so it’s ok.” Adonis heard the tinge of sadness in her voice when she said that. Is there something you need to tell me? Yeah, you’re stupid! What did she say? Can’t tell you! Don’t be an asshole! It’s a secret! Odin! I promised! Tell me! It’s bad juju to break a promise, I don’t want to be hit by a truck! If you get hit by a truck it’s because one hit me! What’s a boogeyman? What? Boogeyman, what’s a boogeyman? A make-believe monster in the closet! It’s a monster! It’s not real, kids use it to explain why something scares them! Oh! Why? She said something about a boogeyman! Did she call me a boogeyman? Did she say I scare her? She said not like the boogeyman, but yes! I scare her! In a good way! A good way? How do you scare someone in a good way? I don’t know! Helpful! She thinks I just want to be friends doesn’t she? Maybe! Yes or no! Yes, stop yelling at me. This is why you’re stupid. If you would have listened to me from the start, she wouldn’t be questioning it right now! Shut up! You shut up! Asshole! Bigger asshole!

“You didint has to stay” The sound of her voice drew him from his conversation with Odin. He would have to show her he wanted to be more than just friends. He would have to figure something out. He didn’t move fast because he didn’t want to scare her, but it seems he was doing that anyway. Not like the boogeyman! Shut up! “But I’m glad you did stay though” Me too! She can’t hear you! Shut up mutt! She looked around her house. “I feel safer when you’re here” Soon you won’t be able to get rid of me! Before anymore could be said her oven timers went off. She looked towards the kitchen then back to the wolf lying beside her on the couch, he grumbled slightly but moved so she could get up.

Carefully getting up from the couch Kenzi moved towards the kitchen to get the tarts out. Her back was spasming more and more and she knew it was time to take the muscle relaxant the doctor gave her. Taking the tarts from the oven and placing them on the counter she gave them a smell and a smile spread across her face. They smelled really good, but she didn’t trust herself. She would have to see what the boys said. Fighting back a yawn, she would have to give these to them tomorrow, she’d probably fall on her face if she went over now in the dark. Reaching for a bottle of pills on the counter she spilled one into her hand. She hated taking it, but if she didn’t her back wouldn’t let her sleep. Filling a glass with water she fought to choke the big pill down. It took several attempts and several drinks later, but she finally got it. Wrapping the tarts in foil she put them in her fridge.

“You don’t has to stay no more, I’ll preddy much be asleep in ten minutes” she looked at the wolf now sitting on her couch watching her. He made no move to leave. Making sure all her doors were shut and the lights were out she headed upstairs with Adonis following closely behind her. We’ll stay till she falls asleep! Don’t have to convince me! What do you think she would do if she met the others? Why? Curious! Why? Don’t get pissy! Why? She took to us easily, would she take to them as well? OURS! Stop it! They would take to her, you heard Jackson and Tyler! Ko and Bal were sedate, someone else was pretty sedate as well! I got an ear massage! She finished in the bathroom, checked her closet twice and crawled into bed. Don’t say it, I don’t know! Ask her already! Lying on her side, her wolf curled around her cuddling in close. “Goodnight wolfie!” Goodnight tiny dancer! Goodnight Lil Button!

His little mate seemed to have had a great day, even though her morning started off rocky. She thoroughly enjoyed having everyone over for dinner, and was quite excited to see Odin. She protected us! She did! Not sure her little body makes a good shield, but she used it to defend us! She cares deeply for us! He hated leaving her, but knew he had too. He waited till she was sound asleep when he left her in the bed. He had shifted back to his human form and he laid there for a bit, before he left. He wanted to stay and he struggled with his decision, but he knew she would have questions if she went to sleep with a wolf and woke up with a naked man. He wanted to tell her, but that’s not how he wanted to tell her. It would be interesting! It would be something! Good luck explaining! So he reluctantly left, but he didn’t leave her empty handed, Odin and him left a heart shaped bouquet on the bed for her in the morning. We really need to stop picking her flowers! We really should! What were the big ones? Peonies! They smell really good! Yeah they do! Should tell the others! I know, something Maggie said has me wondering! The founding pack? Yes, they may no longer call the crater home, but the town would still belong to the Alpha! Maybe we could take it off his hands! Exactly!

“Enjoy dinner boys?” Adonis asked as soon as he walked in the house and heard them laughing.

“Frickin ’delicious, thanks for askin” Tyler replied grinning,

“How yurs?” Jackson asked, trying not to laugh,

“Asshole!” Adonis shook his head at him,

“What’s the plan for tomorrow?” Elijah asked,

“It’s time to bring them home, it’s time to claim the territory. Went running by the camp this morning but I want to see more.” He spoke.

“Bout damn time!” Jackson said, Tyler nodded but his eyes never met Adonis’s. “Shut up, Tyler!” Jackson grumbled under his breath, but he could see them both starting to crack.

“What?” Adonis asked, Tyler shook his head, but the more he tried to hold back the more his shoulders started to shake.

“What?” Adonis asked again, he had a feeling he knew what this was about. He saw them see it, he was just waiting for one to crack.

“Nuttin!” Tyler choked out,

“Shut up Tyler! Don’t look at him.” Jackson even kept his head down, if they didn’t look at him maybe they wouldn’t break.

“A water bowl….her gave him a water bowl?” Tyler howled out, falling over on the couch clutching his sides. Jackson broke right beside him. Elijah sat in the chair though he had a smirk on his face he never said anything.

“Look at you sit there Mr. Fuckin Serious all the damn time” Jackson commented when he noticed him.

“I’ll reserve my comment…. At least until the food bowl shows up” Jackson’s eyes shot open as he looked at him then at Tyler and they both cracked up all over again.

“Her gonna get him a food bowl?” Tyler choked out. “Her gonna put his name on it?”

“Alright you assholes, that’s enough” Adonis said, shaking his head.

“I got a phone call from Alpha Leon this morning. Did you really call her a little whore and try to crush her torso?” Elijah asked, turning the direction of the conversation.

“She’s clearly stupid and my first two warnings didn’t seem to register, so I warned her for the final time to stay the fuck away from me. I also threatened to kill her, did he tell you that?” Adonis asked back after he answered,

“Church bell crush her” Jackson tried to contain himself,

“Church bell crush a whore” Tyler broke first though,

“That never stops being funny” Jackson said when he finally stopped laughing,

“Never does!” Tyler agreed. Time to drop the bomb!

“This town was founded by werewolves!” He announced, silence fell over the living room as three sets of eyes stared back at him. 1...2...3...4… my money’s on Elijah! Jackson!

“The fuck you know that?” Jackson was the first one to speak after the bomb he just dropped. I win! Shut up!

“Maggie!” He returned,

“How she know?” “Does she know about us?” “Who else know?” “How much do they know?” Tyler and Elijah had so many questions, firing them off at him. He had to put his hands up to silence them.

Easy boys, easy” Adonis raised his voice to settle them all down. “There are a few people that know of our kind, Maggie is one of them, and I’m sure you can figure out the rest. It is also safe to say they know quite a bit. This town was founded by werewolves over a hundred years ago and they brought humans in to help keep their secret. A few people were told about this and it’s been passed down. Maggie said the founding pack left the crater and moved further into the mountains, but the current Alpha should still have control over the town. I want it!” It was all he needed to say, Elijah was already on the phone tracking down the information on the pack. Though Tyler was usually the gatherer of information, he didn’t have knowledge or access to pack information like Elijah seemed to have.

“The fuck you not shock that Mrs. Wendall know?” Tyler asked Jackson,

“Fine out Monday, I shock then,” Jackson replied, nodding his head.

“Joe know! That why he gave us the bowlin bowl?” It was more a statement than anything else but Tyler phrased it as a question. Jackson nodded.

“Harvey also know” Jackson added, he told him an awful lot the day they met.

“You can figure out who knows later. We have things to do. I want the information on Teagan as soon as possible, tomorrow I want to go over the camp.” Tyler nodded and left the living room.

“Yeah aight! There somein I want to show you anyway” Jackson said.

“I’ll be home from the city early tomorrow, you can show me then” Adonis looked his friend over, he looked to have the weight of the world on his mind. Something was eating at him and he didn’t think it was just missing his mate.

“Yeah aight!” Jackson nodded again,

“Jackson?” Concern growing in him, Jackson wasn’t the quiet, brooding type.

“Worry bout it tomorrow. Hey, why din’t Lil Kenzi Cakes drink tonight?” Jackson asked, shifting the topic to something else.

“Doctor put her on medication. She’s on a pain reliever and a muscle relaxant, so she’s not allowed” Adonis took a seat in one of the chairs beside the couch.

“How that lil girl keep smilin after what happen? I saw her today an her all smiles.” Jackson asked, it baffled him. Between what happened at the party, and breakfast with her sister and getting beat up by Adam. Jackson couldn’t figure out how she still had a smile on her face.

“I don’t think she dwells too much on the past.” Or she doesn’t let herself feel anything other than happy! You think it’s learned behaviour? It’s not a natural one. I think she was forced! She was forced to stuff it all down? Don’t feel it, don’t show it, don’t be a burden, you’re not important! Touche! The words she spoke the other day when she got off her phone with her sister rang through his head. She said she wasn’t important and it wasn’t the first time she said those words. Doctor Martin told him she said the same thing to him as well the morning of her appointment.

“I don’t think that it. Everone at some point feel anger, sad….not her though, or her does, but don’t show it.” Jackson countered,

“You might be right. Don’t feel it, don’t show it, don’t be a burden, you’re not important! I’ve heard her recite those words over and over, and I’m pretty sure that when she does feel a moment of sadness, that’s all it is, a fleeting moment. With those words running on a loop in her head.” Adonis agreed

“Her stomp it down?” Jackson looked at him,

“I think she does” Adonis replied,

“Someone told her that?” Jackson raised his eyebrows at him,

“That’s where my money would sit. Someone told her she wasn’t important, so what she feels isn’t important. I’ve seen her fight back her emotions” Adonis replied nodding.

“I ain’t even gonna ask who. People stupid.” Jackson already knew. Sister stupid! Ko hissed in his head.

“Yes, she is,” Adonis agreed.
