The Alpha Weredragon's Favorite -
CHAPTER 94
Lyra
I crept through the moonlit forest, my senses heightened and alert. The game had begun, and I was determined to prove myself. I glanced at my partner, signaling with a nod. "Let's move," I whispered. "Stay low and quiet."
We slipped through the shadows, our footsteps muffled by the soft earth. The ruins loomed ahead, ancient and eerily quiet. Suddenly, I spotted movement. "Enemy team," I hissed, crouching down. "Flank them."
We split up, circling around the ruins. My heart raced as I approached, ready to strike. I caught a glimpse of their flag, tucked away in a crumbling alcove. "Now!" I whispered urgently.
We launched our attack, bursting from the shadows. The enemy team scattered, caught off guard. I lunged for the flag, snatching it triumphantly. "Run!" I yelled to my partner. "I've got the flag!"
We sprinted through the forest, dodging branches and leaping over roots. Behind us, the enemy team gave chase, their shouts echoing through the night. "They're gaining on us!" my partner panted, tendrils of hair stuck to her forehead.
"Keep going," I urged. "We're almost there."
As we neared our base, I heard a twig snap behind me. I spun around, just as an enemy lunged at me.
"Watch out!" my partner cried.
I ducked, narrowly avoiding the attack. With a swift kick, I sent the enemy sprawling. We raced on, bursting into our base.
"We did it!" I cheered, holding up the flag. "One down, four to go!"
My partner grinned, catching her breath. "Nice moves back there."
The next flag proved... not exactly easy, but a stroll in the park compared to what happened after I captured it.
With two flags safely tucked away at the home base, the twins keeping guard, I darted through the shadowy forest, my heart pounding in my ears. The last enemy base loomed ahead, a dark fortress guarded by watchful eyes. "I can do this," I whispered to myself, taking a deep breath to steady my nerves.
I inched closer, my senses on high alert. I could hear the faint whir bat wings and the soft rustling of leaves beneath my feet.
"Almost there," I muttered, my eyes locked on the flag fluttering in the distance.
With a burst of speed, I lunged forward, snatching the flag from its perch. Shouts from "enemy" she-wolves blared, shattering the night's silence.
"Got it!" I yelled, clutching the flag tightly as I raced back into the shadows.
I sprinted through the forest, my legs pumping furiously. Behind me, I could hear the cries of the enemy team giving chase.
"Lyra!" my teammate called out as I neared our base. "Watch out!"
I spun around just in time to see an enemy lunging at me, her hands hooked into claws. I ducked, narrowly avoiding her attack.
"Take the flag!" I shouted, tossing it to my teammate.
I turned to face my attacker just in time to avoid her nails raking over mu back. I launched myself at her and our jabs and punches became blurs under the moonlight.
"You can't win," she growled, her eyes narrowed in disgust. "You have to wolf."
"Watch me," I retorted, lunar magic surging through my veins.
With a final, powerful strike, I sent my opponent flying. Bitch landed in a heap, unmoving.
"Lyra, come on!" my teammate urged, waving me over. "They're coming!"
I raced to their side, taking up a defensive stance as the enemy team approached. We fought side by side, our strikes precise and powerful.
"Fall back!" the enemy leader finally called out, their team retreating into the night.
"We did it," I panted, a grin spreading across my face. "We defended the flag."
My teammate clapped me on the shoulder, their eyes shining with pride. "You were amazing out there, Lyra."
One flag to go.
I slunk through the shadows, my heart racing as I approached the final enemy base. The fortress loomed ahead, guarded by watchful sentinels. I took a deep breath, steeling myself for the challenge.
As I drew closer, I felt a strange sensation coursing through my body. My spectral markings began to glow, emitting an ethereal light that filled me with an overwhelming power. I moved with a silent grace, each step infused with otherworldly energy.
The defenders noticed my approach, their eyes widening in surprise. They launched their attacks, but I was ready. Summoning the energy of the moon, I struck with precision and merciless efficiency. Each blow found its mark, overwhelming the defenders.
Within moments, I had seized the last flag, my mission accomplished. I clutched it tightly, a sense of triumph surging through me.
I made my way back to the starting point, the enemy flags in hand. As I emerged from the shadows, I saw my team waiting anxiously.
"Lyra!" they exclaimed, rushing towards me. "You did it!"
I grinned, holding up the flags. "We won," I said, my voice filled with pride.
As the echoes of the trial faded, I tilted my head back and released a triumphant howl. Its haunting melody echoed through the night, a sound of victory and proven strategic prowess. I had secured my place in the final trial, and the feeling was exhilarating.
My team gathered around me, their faces beaming with joy. We embraced, celebrating our hard-fought victory.
"That was incredible, Lyra," one of my teammates said, clapping me on the back. "The way you moved out there, it was like you were one with the shadows."
I smiled, still catching my breath. "It was a team effort," I said, looking around at my partners. "We all played our parts perfectly."
As we made our way back to the starting area, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. I had proven myself, not just to the other contestants, but to myself as well.
The anxiety of the trial had melted away, replaced by a newfound confidence. I knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, I was ready to face them head-on.
We emerged from the forest, the other contestants gathered around, their faces a mix of awe and envy. I held my head high, the enemy flags clutched tightly in my hand.
"Lyra Evergreen," one of the male Council members called out, his voice booming across the clearing. "Your team has emerged victorious in the capture-the-flag trial. Congratulations on securing your place in the final trial." I stepped forward, my heart swelling with pride. I had done it. I had proven myself worthy of being a Luna.
Even without a wolf by my side.
