Becca searched around the kitchen uncomfortably, trying not to meet Caleb’s eyes. It was just as Ramona had said; he looked terrible. His eyes obviously were sleep deprived. She had been trying her best to avoid him all week, and it worked. Becca didn’t get to see him, just as she had wished.

Watching her every move, Caleb walked towards the kitchen island, taking Ramona’s seat. He sighed in exhaustion.

“Until when would you keep doing this?” He asked, holding his head together with his hands.

She gulped hard, toying with her fingers. “did you know about Ramona coming?”

“How was I supposed to know? I haven’t spoken to her in weeks. I was surprised myself to see her here.”

Searching his eyes for any form of lie or pretence, Becca saw the naivety in his eyes. It was obvious Caleb had no idea of Ramona’s coming. She inhaled and exhaled at the same time, trying to steady her breath.

It wasn’t worth brooding on too much; Becca herself was tired of being so far away from him. Caleb means a whole lot to her, and it was scary to not have him around when she had gotten so accustomed to him.

Moving with caution towards him, she stood in front of him, holding out his hands. Caleb’s breath hitched; he had been craving her touch so bad it felt like a balm to his sore when she held his hands.

Raising his hands to her lips, Becca kissed them while holding his gaze. “I’m so sorry for reacting in the manner I did. But I was just so hurt I couldn’t fathom the thought of you getting back with Ramona.”

“I promise, baby, it wasn’t intentional, and I’m so sorry..”

“Shhh.” Becca cooed, placing a finger on his lips. “You don’t have to say anything. You have suffered just about enough. I’m sorry for being so harsh on you. Please forgive me.”

Caleb shook his head, pulling Becca into his embrace. “No baby, I should be seeking your forgiveness. I promise to do all I can to make it up to you. So sorry for disappointing you.” He sniffed. Holding her tightly against himself, the both of them sighed in relief. They felt at home in each other’s arms.

“Looks like a happy reunion.” Xander teased from behind his arms, holding onto Edwina’s waist.

Caleb smiled widely, with Becca hiding her face in his chest as she blushed profusely. “Could say the same for you.”

Edwina wiggled her hands towards Becca as they both let out a loud giggle at the same time.

Still holding onto Edwina, Xander put a hand in his pocket. “How is the crowd outside?” He asked Caleb.

“They are all gone now. Tonight promises to be the beginning of new joyful moments in the night howlers pack.” Caleb replied, grinning at his friend.

“It’s nice seeing you on your feet again, alpha,” Becca commented

Letting go of Edwina, Xander stretched out his hands to her for a hug. Becca didn’t hesitate as he hugged him back. “Thanks for everything, Becca. Not just for me but for loving Caleb too.” He said.

Becca chuckled, “that’s so sweet of you.”

“Guess we can all take that rest that we deserve!” Caleb muttered, winking at Xander, causing the four of them to laugh loudly. They got the attention of the maids and guards passing by the kitchen.

“I have never felt this happy like I feel right now.” Edwina sighed as she stood by the vanity mirror, her back turned to it.

Xander, in his fine-shaped body with a flirty smile on his lips, moved with a slow gait towards her. Lifting her onto the dresser, he shifted all its contents onto the floor. None of them paid any mind to it as he spread her legs wide. He worked his hands underneath her and stroked her clitoris with his finger after shifting the panties aside.

Holding his cheek, Edwina grinned. “You are the best thing that has ever happened to me, Xander. Just when I thought I had no reason to live anymore, you came into my life in the most unexpected way. Despite the hurdles that stood on our path and how sad some moments have been, we still scaled through. Thanks for loving me even when I had pushed you away so many times.”

“I knew what I wanted, wasn’t about to give up.” Xander joked, making Edwina join in his laughter. “Promise me you would stand by me till the very end. Promise me you won’t hide from me if our child ends up without a wolf. Promise me when our love feels forced; you and I will work towards rekindling it. Promise me you will be my friend and lover till the very end.”

With tears in her eyes, Edwina nodded. “I promise, Xander. To love you forever. I love you, Xander.”

“I love you too, Edwina!” He muttered.

Embracing her tightly, Xander closed his eyes, letting out a peaceful sigh. His mind slowly recalled how it all started; the rejection on the first day he met her, and then years later, on the day she first walked into his office.

Edwina came with nothing, as nothing, but her pure heart and mind made her win his love, his trust. She regained everything that had been forcefully taken from her in the past. Now, the exchanged mate is back in her rightful place, and as long as he is alive and even after he is gone, he promised himself that nothing and no one will ever change that.
