The Alpha's Exchanged Mate -
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 25
Edwina’s POV…
The knock on the door had been so loud and unexpected that it caused me to flinch, and almost at the same time, I was moving in the opposite direction of the room, pulling my sweatshirt down and trying to gather a semblance of organization.
I moved in the direction of the door, ignoring the look of annoyance and frustration that was currently painting Alexander’s face.
The moment I pulled open the door, a maid stood there with her head bowed, and she had a small envelope in her hands.
“I was asked to bring this here.” She said simply when I only continued to watch her in silence, and I furrowed my brows, taking the envelope from her hands.
“Thank you.” I said quietly to her, shutting the door gently without waiting to hear her response. I clicked the lock back in place before turning back around to face Alexander.
The Alpha currently had his brows creased in question at the envelope in my hands.
“What’s that?” He asked as I moved in his direction, holding out his hands which in turn caused me to give him the envelope in my hands.
“A maid brought it in.” I answered simply.
I perched on the bed by his side and watched quietly as he opened the envelope and brought it out, pulling out the paper within and running his eyes through its content. I watched as the frown disappeared from his brows, and it eased my anxiety.
“It’s a reminder for the function tonight.” He said simply, and I let out a breath of relief. For some reason, I had feared that the envelope would hold nothing good.
“We should start preparing. It will begin in a couple of hours.” Alexander said finally, folding the piece of paper before tucking it into the envelope again and tossing it in the night drawer.
I nodded my head in agreement and moved out of the bed to do as he had said.

It was hours later before we were completely dressed and ready to go. Seeing Alexander took as much time as a woman because he just couldn’t decide on what to wear.
“You look beautiful.” He complimented the moment we were out of the room and settled in the car that would bring us to the function.
And I blushed to the tip of my ears at the compliment. Grateful for the darkness in the car that hid my definitely red face.
“Well you don’t look too bad yourself.” I replied, teasing him lightly. Thanking the Goddess silently when my voice did not give out to show my nervousness.
“I don’t look bad? Oh wife, you hurt my feelings. What sort of compliment is that? What happened to you, you look so handsome?” Alexander asked, faking hurt.
But even through his words, I could hear the playful undertone to it, and it caused me to laugh, chasing the last of the anxiety that had previously settled in my belly.
“Well who says you look that handsome?” I reiterated, laughing out loud when the man by my side let out a dramatic gasp.
And so a banter began, with Alexander trying to make me admit that he was looking handsome and me standing my ground and refusing to give in to his demand.
The air around us was light and playful, and it helped in relaxing me so much. It turned out that when we got to our locations and stepped out of the car, I didn’t have any knot in my throat or my stomach.
I wasn’t as anxious or scared as I thought I would be, and I even had a smile playing on my lips from Alexander’s last joke before we stepped out of the car. I felt happier and lighter, and the entire atmosphere around me was nice.
We made our way into the large hall that had been decorated tastefully and immediately began to interact with the many people that crowded the space.
Everyone was dressed like royalty. Dark suits, shiny dresses accompanied by very expensive jewelry, well-styled hair, and sweet-smelling cologne, and I was thankful that I dressed up pretty beautifully too.
There were some faces that I could recognize and others that I was sure I had never seen before, but Alexander was really nice and took the liberty to introduce everyone that we stopped by to greet, making sure to include the pack that they came from.
We were met by a group of women that were dressed in sequined dresses and holding beautiful purses. Alexander had just begun introducing them when he was interrupted.
“Alpha Alexander!” Someone called from the other end of the room, and I snapped my head in the direction, alongside Alexander and the women we were currently talking to.
The Alpha squeezed my hand gently and told me he would be right back before wheeling himself in the direction of the group of men that had called out to him.
And it felt like the moment that he was completely out of sight, all the women around me let out a sigh of what sounded like relief, and I frowned in reaction. What was going on?
“How does it feel to be now married to the crippled Alpha?” One of the women asked.
“Well, there’s no major difference, really,” I responded, and I heard one of them click her tongue in what sounded like disapproval.
“Do you ever consider leaving him? I mean you know this is still a new thing and if there will ever be an opportunity for you to get out of it, I think it’ll be now.” She chirped.
I wasn’t given an opportunity to respond before the last one of them also began perking.
“I can’t imagine myself with a man who cannot walk. I mean, how is he supposed to perform his duties?” The rest of the women were agreeing with her, and I knew that I had had enough of the conversation.
“Well, maybe if you all focused more on yourselves instead of poking your nose in others’ business then maybe you would be able to eventually score an actual man for yourselves. You could do much better than huddling together like flies and gossiping at a function.” I snapped.
I turned around to leave, not waiting to hear a response, but definitely not before seeing the look of shock on their faces.
I made my way through the sea of bodies in the room in search of Alexander, and the moment I found him amongst a couple of people, I moved to stand beside him.
“Are you okay?” He asked once the group was done exchanging pleasantries and had left.
“Not really. Can we leave, please?” I asked, hoping to coat my voice. He paused for a second to contemplate my words before sighing heavily and nodding his head, leading me out of the room with his chair wheeling in front of me.
The women and their comments had ruined the night for me, and I was thankful when I felt the breeze hit my face the moment I stepped outside.
Once we settled into the back of the car and were on our way home, Alexander began running a comforting finger on my exposed thigh from the slit in my dress.
“What happened when I was gone?” He asked gently, and I struggled with telling him for a moment.
Shaking my head in the negative, I shivered slightly from the feel of his fingers still tracing an invisible pattern on my thighs.
“It’s not that important, so let’s not talk about it.” I said.
I watched as Alexander shook his head in disagreement, but before he could protest, I took his warm lips in a k**s, smiling slightly when the words that he had been about to speak died, and he began kissing me as fervently as I was kissing him.
“F**k! The scent of your arousal is so intoxicating Edwina.” He whispered against my lips when we pulled apart to take in some air.
And his husky voice that melted out in a silky manner sent a straight fire to my core and left me trembling. I could feel my juice wet my panties, and the realization caused me to shiver with pleasure.
I knew that we would be home soon, but I couldn’t wait till we were home, so I moved straight for Alexander’s pants.
Thankful for the space that we had.
The moment I managed to get it off the Alpha, I pulled my dress up and let my panties drop.
“F**k.” I hissed the moment I positioned myself above Alexander’s c**k and slowly let his length slide into my warm, waiting p***y.
The Alpha let out a deep grunt, and it turned me on even more. Soon I began bouncing up and down the Alpha’s length, moaning as the thick girth rubbed deliciously against my walls.
I didn’t care that we were not completely alone in the car or that I was acting wantonly. All I cared about at the moment was chasing after the tightening that had begun forming in my belly.
The Alpha kept his hands firmly on my h**s and helped me with moving up and down, his g****s of pleasure becoming louder and louder, almost in sync with my own high-pitched m***s.
It didn’t take very long for my o****m to come crashing against me, and I shuddered intensely from the feeling, my lips parted in a silent scream. It felt like I blacked out for a moment with the intensity of my o****m and when I came onto it was to the sight of Alexander trembling slightly at the onslaught of his own o****m.
And the feeling of the car rolling to a stop. We were home.
I don’t know what had made me crave for s*x with him this much. Was it the words of those uninformed women, or did it come from the fact that s*x was one of the drives keeping the relationship afloat?
I had really hoped to get comfort in other areas, but I wasn’t going to get emotionally attached to this man, I only gave my heart once, and it was shattered, and I was cheated on. I helped him out of the car, and we went straight to the bedroom. It was strange that after such great s*x, we could easily switch to not talking about it and falling right to sleep.
But tonight wasn’t one of those nights.
“What happened?” He asked as he helped himself get out of his clothes, and I paused before the mirror. I wasn’t sure I was up for this conversation tonight.
“Nothing, I am just tired, I want to go to bed, got a long day tomorrow, I have to go to the prison to visit Benedict. The last time I couldn’t talk to him and left abruptly, I think I am strong enough to talk to him now,” I blurted out as I was giving too much information at once, hoping he would take the bait and ask me about it, especially the topic about Ben but it was like he saw through my classic bullshit.
“You know I am not talking about all that,” he muttered as he dragged himself to the bed and pushed himself upward.
“Then what are you talking about?” I asked, trying to avert or prolong this discussion. This isn’t the discussion I want to have today or tomorrow.
Maybe we should have stated more clear terms in this contract marriage of ours.
“You know, we were at the party, and all of a sudden you want to leave, and in the car, you want to also have s*x,”
I sighed, “is it wrong to want s*x from the man I am married to in the car,” I wasn’t asking as I walked into the bathroom, and for once, I was grateful he was in a wheelchair and couldn’t follow me, I used the rushing warm tap water to rinse my face, I knew I wasn’t supposed to be mad at him because it wasn’t his fault those ladies thought that about him, neither was it his fault he was crippled.
I let out an exasperated gasp before leaving the bathroom. He still sat there patiently waiting for me to come out of the bathroom.
“Some ladies were asking uncomfortable questions to me,” I paused, and I knew he required more details. “They asked how I felt being a crippled alpha’s Luna,”
“Does that bother you?” He asked. He was indifferent, this should have affected any normal man or woman, but he didn’t care. It wasn’t like he cared and was pretending not to. I could see from his green eyes he didn’t care.
“No, it doesn’t, but I am not used to questions like that from strangers,” I paused, and my mind flashed back to my childhood, and I sighed as my brows furrowed in a displeasing sense.
“Actually, I’m used to it,” I whispered as I sat close to the edge of the bed with my back slightly facing him. “I am used to it. Growing up, I always had strangers pointing at me as the girl with no wolf and random people walking up to me to ask how it feels to be the only human amid wolves,”
“How does that make you feel?” He asked in a much softer tone than the last question he had asked me.
“It made me feel small and irrelevant,” I replied sincerely.
And he exhaled. “When I became crippled, I heard all kinds of manners of things about me, and it broke me; people who I thought were loyal to me turned their back on me because I was crippled and made ridicule of the throne because it was ruled by a cripple Alpha,”
“How did you cope with all that?” I asked as empathy could be heard all over my face and voice.
“At first the pain was traumatic and suffering became my best friend, my wife was cheating on me with the man who was supposed to have my back at all times, I was an object of ridicule all through the realm and there was nothing worse than not having control of the situation around you.”
He spoke at length, and for the first time since I got married to him, I saw him for exactly who he was. A man who has been hurt but learned to live above the pain, and that’s the true definition of strength.
“When I was young, I always thought you were a strong Alpha, but I see today you aren’t just strong but brave.”
He smiled, “Was that a compliment that finally came from you?”
I chuckled and took a throw pillow and aimed in his direction, “no it wasn’t,”
“Yes, it was,” he grinned, “and Edwina, one thing with situations like this it reveals things to you in its truest form,”
I nod my head in agreement, understanding perfectly what he meant. If I had not been born without a wolf, I wouldn’t have figured out how cruel they are.
“and it also gets you amazing car s*x,” he teased, and I laughed.
For the first time since we got married, I had seen a side to him in a way I had never done. We spent the rest of the night talking about how people had tried to bring us down with words, and I found that one thing I had in common with him.
