The Alpha's Exchanged Mate -
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 8
***THE NEXT DAY***
Edwina was still distraught with the after thoughts from what had happened yesterday. She’d returned to her former home in night howler territory after the dinner, the alpha had given her some time to think further about the condition he gave. There was no need for thinking, saying yes would give her what she wanted after all, but he still insisted on it.
Now that she thought of it, even though she wouldn’t die, she realized she would still be at the losing end of all this. She would have to return to a disabled man whom she had no feelings for. She would have to live a life that involved caring for someone whom she once shared a bond with, a bond that had been rejected, a bond that had hurt her so badly. Now she had to go back to a home where she would be reminded of the pain she once felt every day. This will be hard, even much harder than death, but does she really have any other choice?
She does, the other one would be to let Sonia and Benedict die, but she knows she can’t do that. Those two are the only surviving members of her family after her father’s death. Even with how badly she’d been treated, losing her father that time was painful. She couldn’t bear to feel twice as much of that same pain again.
The best thing she can do for herself now is to look forward to the new life that awaits her in the night shadow pack house. There’s a lot of things she’s missed since she left home, but none she’s missed more than her family.
**********
The prison yard was on the far side of the terrain. There were hardly any vehicles used in this place, as everyone here had their wolves to transport them wherever they wanted. Everyone apart from Edwina. It took her much longer time to get there on her two feet, they were aching very much by the time she arrived, but the purpose of this visit was much more important than any hurt her two legs would make her feel.
The guards at the front gate stopped her from going any further. “Yes, can we help you, miss?” One of them asked her.
“Good day. Please, I came here to see my sister, Sonia Sinclair. She was one of the prisoners brought in about a week ago.”
He scrutinized her sharply with his eyes. “Who are you and what is your purpose for this visit?”
“I am Edwina Sinclair, Sonia’s younger sister. I came here to see her.”
The two men looked at each other, exchanging some sort of signal before looking back at her.
“You may go in. The warden on duty is inside, tell him what you want when you enter.”
As she entered, she asked herself the reason why she’d taken so much stress just to come for this visit. She realized it’s the first time she’ll be seeing her sister since replaceing out the whole incident with her and Ben’s affair. Is she really ready for this? To come face to face with the one person who’s treated her far from anything like family?
And what about Ben? Does she also have plans of seeing him at all? She’s not really sure about that, the number one person who is on her mind is Sonia. She wants to know how she’s been; she wants to know her condition, she wants to know how the baby is doing. Her sister might not deserve any kindness from her, but no matter what, she’s still her family.
After meeting with the Warden and explaining her situation, she remained in the waiting room for a while before her whole body was searched along with the bag she carried, then she was allowed in the partially dark room with two seats and a table to meet with her sister.
Sonia was brought into the room shortly after in handcuffs. She was wearing a raggedy prison uniform and her whole face and body was covered in ground dust. Edwina couldn’t hide her sadness upon seeing her, she showed so much sympathy on her face, getting up from her seat the minute Sonia entered.
“Edwina.” Sonia couldn’t hold back the tears seeing who had come. She never expected this. She never expected her sister to so much as care about what happened to her here, especially after replaceing out about her betrayal. She’s been the worst, she’s caused her so much hurt right from her birth, not just her, but father as well. She didn’t expect for Edwina to still care for her after everything. She didn’t expect it at all.
“It’s okay, Sonia. It’s okay.” Edwina accepted her embrace as she softly patted her back, allowing her pour her heart out, allowing her pour out those tears she’s been holding since. It’s been so lonely in here for Sonia, with no other close family besides the one she’d mistreated. She didn’t believe that someone like her could get any visits. Edwina is such a good person; she doesn’t deserve such a cruel sister like her at all.
“I’m sorry,” Sonia cried uncontrollably onto her sister’s shoulder, “I’m sorry for all that I did to you. You don’t deserve me as a sister at all.”
“I’m the one who should be sorry,” Edwina told her. “I’m the one who should be punished. I was born ordinary, with nothing into this world. I made life hard for you and papa because of my deficiency.”
“Don’t say that at all, Edwina. We are the ones who made you feel that way. Our problem was accepting you. We failed to tell the world that you were just born ordinary, we failed to tell them that nothing was wrong with you, and that’s why they treated us badly. You might have not been born with a wolf, but your kind heart makes up for everything you could have ever lacked. You are a good person, Edwina, it was papa and I that were to blind to see that. Thank you for coming into this world as my sister. These might be my last days on earth, but I will never forget your kind heart, I will always regret the love I failed to show you as a sister.”
