I watch, in silent shock as the two wolves grapple with each other. A millisecond later, the shock is replaced with fury. Stalking up to them--him mainly--I jump onto Cade’s wolfs back and dig my heels into his sides. He grunts but doesn’t take much of a notice.

Leaning forward I search for his pulse point, but before I can touch it, he bucks me off and lunges for me, growling a warning.

I snarl as I hop up, dusting my but off. As soon as he turns around I shift into my silver wolf and lunge for him, managing to land a bite on his leg. Again all he did was growl in response.

I scowl, murmuring incoherent words in my head.

This time, when I lunge, I lunge on top of Cade’s back. Yapping at his neck I zero my gaze on him.

He tries to buck me off but I dig my claws into his sides and cling on. I can practically feel the anger radiating from him. Practically hear him yelling, “Get the hell off!”

Oh, wait, someone actually was yelling that. “Get the hell off him!” The voice said again.

Cade and both ignored the voice and continued to grapple until he was underneath me and I was on top threatening to bite him.

I looked at him, surprised when he bowed his head in respect.

Smiling to myself I was suddenly happy. That is until someone started ripping me off Cade, literally.

Blood started to coat my fur as the she-wolf dug her claws into my sides to rip me off Cade.

I was flung to the side and hit a tree nearby, sinking to the ground. The wounds were deep and blood was coming out in heaps.

I faintly heard someone yell in rage, not being able to recognise the voice though. A few seconds later I was being lifted and I howled in pain.

“It’s okay baby, it’ll all be okay soon.” Kaiden’s voice reassured me as he ran me back to the pack house.

Damn, only been here for a little while and already I was hurt. That was nice. The invincible Scarlett Maxwell was not so invincible after all. Not that I was saying I was invincible. It was just something that Tristan and Christian sometimes said.

When we reached the pack house Kaiden took me into a random room upstairs, placed me on the bed and waited for the pack healer to come.

While we were waiting he put pressure on the wounds to try and slow down the bleeding, but it just made it more painful.

A few minutes later, the pack healer came in with Cade and a girl around my age behind her.

The girl walked over to the side of my bed with tears in her eyes. “I’m sorry for hurting you. I just don’t like it when people touch my mate.” She whispered, sounding sincere.

Mate? I asked silently with raised eyebrows towards Cade.

He just raised his hands and shrugged.

I turned to the girl and smiled, but realised after it came out as more of a grimace just looking at Cade and Kaiden’s pained faces. “It’s okay, really. I’d be doing the same if it was Kaiden.” I reassured her.

I almost laughed when I saw Cade’s face when I said Kaidens name. He scowled at me.

“Is he your mate?” She asked, sounding interested.

I hesitated, thinking about it for a second, before finally answering. “Yeah. Yeah, Kaiden is my mate.” I looked up at him with loving eyes as he leaned down and placed a soft kiss on my lips.

“Alright, guys. I’ve got to get to work on this girl. Only one of you can be present.” She eyed Cade, Kaiden and the girl with curious eyes.

“I’ll stay.” Cade and Kaiden said at the same time.

“No, no, Cade. I’m sure you want to spend time with your mate." I dragged out the word. “Don’t you, Cade?” I raised my eyebrows.

He didn’t reply.

“Go, Cade. Kaiden is staying with me. No arguments.” I told him as I turned my attention to the healer, trying--but failing--to smile. “I’m ready.”

She ushered the Cade and his ‘mate’ out of the room and instantly got to work on my wounds.

“They’re really deep, Scarlett. You’re very lucky.” She smiled down at me.

“Thank you for your help. It’s appreciated.” I smiled, actually smiled this time. Without grimacing.

“He’s not really your mate is he.” She didn’t ask it as a question, but as a statement whilst she pointed to Kaiden who had fallen asleep beside me.

“No. He’s not.” I murmured.

“It’s Cade. Isn’t it.” Again. Not a question.

I replied with a simple nod. Smiling she left the room, closing the door behind her.

Kaiden woke up to the noise, looking up at me with sleepy eyes.

“Sorry for falling asleep on you.” He mumbled with a groggy voice.

“It’s okay. I’m a bit tired myself.” I whispered.

“Can you walk?” He asks standing up and stretching.

“I dunno,” I replied. Slowly, I started to get up, ignoring the ache in my back and the numbness of being in the same position for a few hours.

I walked around the room a few times before grinning. “I’m good,” I said with a grin as I walked up to him Lacing my arms around his neck I brought him closer to me, our lips slowing coming together with silent passion.

“Can we visit my parents tomorrow?” I asked, with a hopeful voice.

“Of course we can. Anything for you.” He murmured against my lips.“Come on, let’s head back to our room and get some sleep. Placing one last, short peck on my lips we separate and head for our bedroom.

When we got there the place was trashed. There was stuff everywhere. Broken lamps, tables, and desks. The lounge was ripped to shreds.

“Is it possible that there was a rogue attack that only occurred in our cabin?” I asked, knowing the actual cause of the mess, but refusing to say it.

“Highly unlikely,” Kaiden replied.

“Highly unlikely, meaning it could happen,” I smirked.

“Yes, but we both know that’s not what happened.” He grinned back at me, but it turned into a grimace as we looked back at the mess.

As if to prove our point, Liz walked out of the room that she and Brent shared in nothing but a shirt and thong.

She blushed a deep red when she noticed us.

“I-I thought you guys weren’t going to be back for a while....” She trailed off, still flushed.

“Well, clearly, you thought wrong,” I replied in a teasing voice.

Just then, Brent walked out in nothing but boxers, simply waving when he noticed us.

“I hope you realise that you're cleaning up this mess,” Kaiden said raising his eyebrows. “And paying for the damages...” He trailed off pointing to a dent in the wall, the broken tables, and the couch. May he rest in peace.

“Whatever,” Brent said with a flick of his wrist. “A guy has urges.”

Liz stalked up to him and swatted him on the back of the head.

“Ow!” Brent exclaimed as he lifted his hand to rub where she had hit him. “Sorry. A girl has urges.” She mocked.

I laughed as I walked up to her and gave her a high five. “You go, girl!”

“Sucker,” I said, sticking my tongue out at Brent.

“Actually, that’s Liz’s job.” He smirked and quickly put his arms up in defense as Liz went to whack him again.

I mentally gagged. Actually, scratch that, I physically gagged, too.

“Come on. Let’s rest.” Kaiden says taking my hand. “Hopefully, they didn’t take it to our bedroom.”
