The Alpha's Unwanted Mate
The Alpha’s Unwanted Mate Chapter 45

Zillon ran a hand through his head of black hair as he walked down the hall to Celeste’s room. He was ready for patrol and though he was angry at her, he at least had to say goodbye.

He was aware of the fact that she was probably angry at him after how he had treated her, and honestly, that was okay…he deserved her anger. He shouldn’t have glared at her, shouldn’t have called her weak and he shouldn’t have driven unsafely either, but he had every right to be angry at her too.

That girl heard when his father spoke about the rogues, she knew they were dangerous, hell she knew they had ruthlessly murdered two pack members already and yet she went so deep into the f*cking forest.

She was an omega, but he was sure that the elders had educated her. Ferals come around anytime the crave for b***d haunted them; day or night, and that girl, that damn foolish girl went out there, so close to the pack borders.

He wasn’t even sure what happened, a pack member was laying on the floor and the rogue inches away from it. It could be that the pack member broke the rogues neck after being bitten in the neck by it… But the bite was too deep, no wolf could move after being bitten like that, so that scenario was highly unlikely.

He couldn’t have killed the rogue, someone else must’ve and he was sure it wasn’t Celeste. She wasn’t trained and even a fully trained beta would replace taking down a wolf so big hard, so who…?

Zillon shook his head, knocking on her door, he was probably overthinking it. Celeste was there, she knew what happened, after calming down and fully comprehending the cause of his anger she’d forgive him.

Or perhaps she wouldn’t…

Impatiently and uncertainly knocking on the door again, Zillon waited until it opened up, his eyes drifting up from Celeste’s bare feet to stare at her beautiful face. Her eyes were swollen, her hands nervously gripping the red night gown she wore. “Yes…?”

“I’m leaving, I won’t be back until morning.”

Celeste nodded, then gently closed the door in his face. Zillon looked at the door that was now a barrier between them, sighing.

She still hadn’t put a band-aid on the cut on her knees and she seemed more bothered that he originally thought she’d be. She must be thinking about things she shouldn’t, she was probably doubting herself again, thinking she was unwanted…

She must feel pitiful and he was the fool for making her feel that way. He knew how precious she was, like a glass, she was easily broken and he kept putting her together, just to break her again.

His mother was right, she needed peace and even if it took leaving him to have it, then she should…but Zillon would never let that happen, he was selfish enough to be her tormentor and her peace, sure he could break her, but he was the only one who could mend her too.

He hated it when she cried, he hated seeing her in pain, but when he gets angry, it’s like he’s unable to think straight. In those moments, his throat only itched to say what would hurt and his mind wouldn’t stop telling him that whoever it was that made him angry deserved his wrath.

It was the same with Celeste, but he should’ve fought it, she was his precious little Kitten, he should’ve never gotten angry at her. He had really treated her as if he’d abandon her and who knows what she’d do if he left without convincing her otherwise.

She almost killed herself once, he couldn’t risk it happening twice.

Sighing again, he walked away from her door and to the bathroom, getting a bond-aid to cover her cut before walking back to her door. He knocked and waited until she opened it up again.

She looked him in the eye, her eyes red as if she had just shred fresh tears. “Yes…?”

“Can I come in, Kitten?”

Celeste shrugged, stepping out of the doorway. “Its y-your house, you can come in if you want to.”

Zillon stepped pass her, listening as the door closed behind him.

“What do you want though? I tho…I thought you didn’t want me anywhere near you.”

“Come here, Kitten…”

Celeste was hesitant, but never the less, she inched closer until she stood in front of him. “Hmm—?” She answered, but her little hum got cut off when Zillon pulled her into his arms, resting his chin on top of her head. “Did you cry a lot? Do you hate me?”

“I…I—” Celeste felt tense, she didn’t know what to do and she wasn’t sure what he was doing either. A couple hours ago, he was glaring at her and now…now she was buried tightly in his arms.

She was confused, his actions kept fooling her…one minute she could swear to the heavens that he liked her and the next, she could only see hate in his dark eyes. She wasn’t even sure which one was his true feelings towards her, she was just lost; stupidly and irrevocably lost in him.

Foolishly wrapping her arms around him, she shook her head. She couldn’t hate him, she could never hate him no matter how much she tried. He was the reason why she was still alive now, those words he had told her as a kid, ten years ago had been her reason for living.

‘We’ll have to be strong, right? You want to be happy and I want to be alpha. We both have something to fight for and when we finally win our battles, we’ll meet here, we’ll celebrate our victory.’

Celeste had kept fighting to meet him back at that cave, but she never seem to be able win her battles. He had won his, he was alpha, but back then, she was still unhappy.

She thought that maybe she’d be able to be happy if he turned out to be her mate, so she started aiming for that, but even then she was unhappy.

Now though while she rested against his chest, all she could feel was a lingering bliss, she’d be able to meet him there, one day ahead, she’d take him back to that cave and tell him that she had accomplished her goal and that he was the one who made it possible.
