The Apple of My Eye -
Chapter 1437 Got Along With Each Other
Charles did his best to comfort Sheryl. "It's okay, Sher. It's all over now. Stop thinking about it. What you need right now is rest. Lillian's dead and Leila isn't staying with us anymore. You're home now and we can live our lives peacefully from now on."
This eased Sheryl's worries. She gathered herself and said, "You're right, Charles. Lillian's gone now. She has paid for her actions and I don't have to worry about anything anymore."
"Let's go home first. Clark and Shirley are waiting for us at home."
Sheryl couldn't help but smile when she thought about Clark and Shirley. And she couldn't wait to rush back home now.
Charles felt relieved when he saw the smile on Sheryl's face. They left the police station and got into their car.
Charles drove Sheryl to the Dream Garden and
parked the car in the garage. Hearing the car engine, Clark and Shirley rushed to the door, hand in hand, to welcome Charles and Sheryl. They jumped into Sheryl's arms, grinning from ear to ear. Sheryl held their hands and walked inside.
"Mom, you're finally home! I missed you," Shirley said cheerfully.
Clark nodded his head repeatedly as if affirming what Shirley had said.
Sheryl and Charles burst into laughter.
"Did you two miss me?" Sheryl squatted to her knees so that she could look into their eyes.
"Yes!"
"We missed you so much!"
Clark and Shirley answered immediately.
"Mom, I miss you so much. I miss you this much." Shirley drew a big circle in the air.
"Mom, I miss you too. I couldn't even eat when you were gone." Clark wasn't always like this. He used to shy away from expressing his emotions but here he was openly declaring what he was feeling. "That's not cool, Clark. No matter what happens, we should always eat properly so we'll grow up big and strong!"
Clark and Shirley nodded their heads obediently. Sheryl's heart melted, overwhelmed by love and affection for her kids.
Sheryl felt like the luckiest woman in the world with her thoughtful husband and her lovely children. Leila wasn't here anymore so Sheryl was beyond elated. She was grinning from ear to ear. Charles himself was overwhelmed with love. He couldn't remember the last time Sheryl was smiling like this. A lot of things had been happening the past few weeks. Sheryl had lost a lot of weight because of the stress Melissa and Leila had brought her. Then Shirley got kidnapped and Sheryl herself was almost murdered. It seemed as if their family was cursed.
Fortunately, everything was over now. Sheryl was getting better and she didn't have to worry about anything anymore. Charles wished he could freeze time as he watched his family enjoy their little reunion. All he wanted was for Sheryl to be happy from here on out.
Suddenly, Melissa came walking down the stairs. She felt like she was an outsider as she watched the family unite. She felt a little bit uncomfortable and Sheryl coming back home irritated her. Melissa felt as if Sheryl was the source of all her troubles.
But Melissa had learned her lesson and she learned it the hard way. She wouldn't ever dare mess with Sheryl anymore. She knew that it was Sheryl who had Leila kicked out. 'What a scheming woman!' Melissa thought to herself.
Melissa didn't see Sheryl as a pushover anymore. By this time, she knew that Sheryl wasn't someone to be messed with. Sheryl concealed her emotions well and she had Charles eating at the palm of her hand so Melissa wouldn't ever get in Sheryl's way anymore. Melissa didn't want to risk the wrath of Sheryl and get herself kicked out and end up like Leila. Melissa didn't want to go back to her old life so she would do her best to behave here.
So even though Melissa didn't want to, she still offered Sheryl her shoulder and some words of encouragement. She needed to convince Charles that she had changed and that she cared about Sheryl.
"Sheryl, I'm glad you're home. It's all over now. I'm sure things will be better from now on. Cheer up!" Melissa fondly held Sheryl's hands between hers.
Sheryl felt a chill run down her spine as she could tell how fake Melissa was being.
Melissa continued speaking. "Sheryl, let's forget about the past and move on. I'm sure we're going to get along and we can live happily together as a family."
Charles was relieved to replace that Melissa had changed her treatment of Sheryl. He smiled and said, "I'm sure we'll all get along. We are family after all. All we need is family to be happy." Despite Sheryl's reluctance, she decided to go along with Melissa's acting. "Thanks, Mom. I know I've made mistakes too. From now on, Charles and I will take care of you and our family." The Lu family was laughing gleefully as if they hadn't just gone through so many things the past few weeks.
Nancy was delighted at the sight of this. She took a step towards them and said, "Alright, everybody, dinner's ready. Let's get moving. Wash your hands and come to the dining table." Sheryl breathed a sigh of relief when she heard Nancy. She didn't want to deal with Melissa anymore. She felt that if she had to fake being nice to Melissa for a minute longer, she would lose all her appetite. "Nancy's right. Let's get moving, everybody. Go wash your hands and head to the dining table," Charles said as he took Clark and Shirley to wash their hands.
A few seconds later, the two kids ran back to Sheryl, laughing. Shirley put her hands in Sheryl's face and asked, "Mom, what do I smell like? Do I smell sweet?" Sheryl burst into laughter and said, "Yes, you smell sweet, princess."
Shirley grinned. She urged Sheryl to wash her own hands too. "Mom, you should wash your hands too! You're the queen of sweet! I'm just the princess." Everyone else was amused as they all took a seat around the dining table to have dinner.
Meanwhile, Leila's phone was ringing. It was Felix.
