The Apple of My Eye -
Chapter 1452 Leila's Future Plan
The wooden chair moved slightly backward as Leila slumped in relief. Finally, she felt assured after she had received the money from Melissa. She'd made so many efforts to make it happen, and now it was done. The money could help her out of her current predicament of starvation and homelessness, which was a big relief.
Silence hung in the air while Melissa and Leila sat in the coffee shop. Something between them had changed as the air between them felt awkward. At that moment, Melissa decided to break the ice and talk about the Lu family's affairs. After all, they were still on the same side when it came to Sheryl.
"Oh my, Leila! Did you know, I've been isolated after you left our house! The bitch Sheryl had gone too far these days. She doesn't even show me, her mother-in-law, the slightest bit of respect. Can you imagine that! I'm so mad!" she complained.
There were so many complaints Melissa aired out that she couldn't even stop the words from pouring out of her mouth. She couldn't complain at home, since the servants were on Sheryl's side. They would never listen to her. What was worse was that they might tell on her to Charles, which would only make her son dislike her even more.
When she was out with other rich ladies, she wouldn't talk about her family affairs either because of her arrogance. If her friends knew that Sheryl had been stepping on her, they would simply despise her. No one sympathized with her.
However, Leila was different. She hated Sheryl as much as Melissa did. Thus, Melissa freely vented out her frustrations.
But to be honest, Leila also felt impatient as Melissa still sang the same old song. Then again, she couldn't show her real emotions in front of Melissa even if she repeated the old stories again and again. "Oh my God! How dare she! I didn't know that she would get even more vicious. But Aunt Melissa, don't be mad. Your bad mood might affect your health. It's not worth to sacrifice your health for a woman like her. You can just neglect and ignore her," Leila consoled softly.
Her eyes looked at Melissa sincerely like she really meant what she said. Then, she pointed out how bad Sheryl had treated her in the past, and how she saw Sheryl's true colors. The two started to curse and badmouth Sheryl with the nastiest words.
Melissa felt much better when she vented out her anger and frustrations. She felt that somehow, the curse words could really hurt Sheryl, and she had gotten her revenge by doing all those.
Soon enough, their conversation ended. Melissa felt pretty satisfied and didn't mean to stay long with Leila. After she paid her bill, she bid Leila goodbye and took her leave.
As soon as Melissa got out, she thought that no matter what, Leila still threatened her in the message. She realized that Leila wasn't the innocent lady she pretended to be. Even if they had spent a long time together and she trusted Leila so much in the past, she felt uneasy when she was in the cafe with her. She felt as if Leila was a beast lurking in the shadows, ready to attack her at any moment.
It was like she was sitting on a spiked rug whenever Leila was around. Leila threatened her for money and promised her that it was the last time, but Melissa knew that she had always been a big liar. Who knew how she would spend the money? Leila might come to her and threaten her again in the near future.
Therefore, before Melissa left, she told Leila, "Dear, I'll be very busy in the next few months. I'm afraid that I won't have time to meet you from now on."
Melissa's words were simple but meaningful. She meant to say that Leila shouldn't come to her again, as she didn't have time or money to help her out next time. She was not obliged to give Leila money. On the other hand, Leila also understood what Melissa meant. She clenched her fist under the table in silence, while her nails dug deeply into her palm.
She was full of rage and hatred!
She hated that Melissa tried to push her away, that Melissa was being cruel to her, and that Melissa despised her, but she had helped Melissa so many times before!
"Yes, Aunt Melissa. Please take care of yourself, and I won't disturb you anymore," Leila answered in a low voice to try to suppress her anger.
Upon hearing that, Melissa smiled and nodded, then left the coffee shop.
Meanwhile, Leila still sat on the chair, and stared blankly as if Melissa was still in front of her. She couldn't forget how disdainful Melissa looked as she gazed at her.
After quite a while, Leila managed to muster up enough strength to move on. She stood up and left the coffee shop, then headed to her apartment.
As Leila dragged herself back, she kept thinking about how she would use the money Melissa had given her. She didn't know how much there was in the bank card, but one thing was for sure: Melissa wouldn't give her too much. She was too selfish for that, but it was nice of her to offer some help.
Since money was limited, Leila knew that she couldn't live her life before of staying at home and depleting all her resources. If she didn't change, she would end up in the same embarrassing situation again, and she wouldn't be as lucky to get any money from Melissa again.
Thus, she thought that she must make good use of the money to build a fortune.
However, how would she do that?
All these thoughts drowned Leila's mind for a while.
As she thought more about it, she strolled along the street until she reached her home. It was already dark at night when she came back to her senses.
She opened her bedroom door and threw herself on the bed. She looked positively worried as she stretched her worn out limbs.
As far as she knew, the only way to make more money was to make an investment. She thought about starting her own business, but she lacked the related experience and didn't know where to start. Moreover, she didn't know what business she would devote herself to. If by any chance her investment failed, she would lose all her money. That would only worsen her situation.
Several days had passed since that incident. Leila finally decided to do some research. It was a scorching hot summer, but she went out early and came back at dusk every day, until she finally knew what she would sell.
At a five-star hotel
The bright light slowly penetrated Cassie's eyes before she fully opened them. She looked around and realized that she was in an unfamiliar place.
The things that happened last night flashed back in her mind. Cassie felt her heart shatter again.
She couldn't figure out why Nick had treated her like that! Why did he do that?
After a while, Cassie was pulled back to reality by her flowing tears. She wiped them dry and decided to let it go. Since Nick had fallen in love with someone else, Cassie wouldn't cling to him anymore.
She thought that it was time to let go and move forward. After all, she could still live a happy life and meet other nice guys without Nick.
However, love wasn't rational. She felt so much pain after she realized that she and Nick would be separated forever. Only time could take away her pain.
A few moments later, Cassie slowly got up from the bed. She was about to go to the bathroom and refresh herself when the doorbell rang.
'Who could that be?' Cassie thought. 'Is it the hotel staff?'
Cassie checked her dress before she answered the door. She wore a nightgown; it wasn't formal but it was appropriate enough. She headed towards the door and opened it.
A waiter stood outside and smiled at her.
"Good morning. Can I help you?" Cassie asked in mild surprise. "Good morning. This is the breakfast we have prepared for you. May I come in?" the waiter asked politely.
He showed her the trolley behind him, which smelled of delicious dishes. Cassie glanced at the trolley laden with food behind him, and couldn't help but feel warm.
The hotel service was better than she thought. She didn't ask for breakfast, but they initiated and brought it to her room.
