The Apple of My Eye -
Chapter 1456 See You Tomorrow
"It's good that you didn't tell her." Jordan heaved a deep sigh of relief. He was worried that his troublesome sister had spoiled his plans. If she had talked to Cassie about her encounter with Lily and Nick at his apartment, his plan would have been completely ruined.
After all, according to Cassie, no one other than the three of them knew what exactly had happened in that room that day. He was not there, so it wouldn't make sense if he knew all the details.
"I have some doubts too. Did you send anyone to stalk Nick? If not, how would you know all this?" Cora asked curiously.
Jordan had an answer ready for that question. He remained calm and replied, "I wasn't stalking Nick. But I did send someone to secretly protect Cassie since that accident. I didn't think I would replace Nick with another woman in the process. I would say it was sheer luck."
"Oh, I see." Cora looked at Jordan, her eyes full of admiration. "You are such a gentleman. If I were lucky enough to meet a man like you who would treat me so sincerely, I will be the happiest woman in the world. You are so good to Cassie."
Jordan gave her a wide smile and said, "One day, you will meet someone who cherishes and loves you more than anyone else."
"I hope so. By the way, why didn't you want to invite Cassie to lunch?" Cora thought it was a good opportunity for Jordan to make his move to solidify his relationship with Cassie. But Jordan defied her expectations. Why wouldn't he act now? There was an old saying which said, "Strike while the iron is still hot." But Jordan was taking his time. Wasn't this the best time to comfort Cassie and be by her side? Despite that, Jordan had specifically asked her not to invite Cassie for lunch and had made her keep the information she had about Nick a secret.
Jordan replied, "You really don't understand how women think."
"That's ridiculous! I am a woman too. Are you saying you understand women better than I do? Impossible!" Cora said with a pout.
"I bet you really don't understand. You're a woman, but you have never been in a relationship. When you get a boyfriend, you will understand what I'm talking about. Now, let's go for lunch." Jordan wasn't interested in continuing the conversation regarding Cassie.
And without a doubt, food was a more attractive topic to Cora than anything else.
At the pedestrian street
Ms. Bai walked into Leila's shop again. She came right when Leila wasn't too busy.
"How's business?"
"Hi! Welcome back. It's not bad. Come on in, take a seat." Leila gently held Ms. Bai's hand and led her to a table. She ran back to get her a glass of water.
After all, Ms. Bai was not only a friend to her, but also a steady customer. Leila was happy to see her and also treated her with respect.
"Please have some water," Leila said, handing the glass to Ms. Bai.
"You don't have to be so polite to me. This is not my first time here, and it wouldn't be the last either. So, treat me like a friend, not a customer," Ms. Bai said with a smile. "Go ahead and deal with the other customers. I was just passing this way and stopped by to see how things are going with you. That's all."
Before leaving, Ms. Bai bought some stuff from Leila's shop. Leila couldn't suppress her excitement. But soon after Ms. Bai left, Leila felt depressed. She envied Ms. Bai, who had such a huge fortune; whateve she wanted to buy was within her grasp. There was no question of whether she could afford something or not; anything she wished, she could have.
But Leila was still struggling to make ends meet. She had to work to her bones for a proper meal and decent clothing. She wanted to lead a luxury life, but it was still a far away dream. She and Ms. Bai were about the same age, but they lived such different lives. They existed in different worlds.
But her grim feelings only lasted for a few seconds. Leila left behind those thoughts soon; she had much work to do.
She turned back and returned to her shop to organize the goods. Her business had been getting better lately. But she did feel bored and tired since she had to stay in the shop every day. So, she planned to hire someone to work for her.
As Leila was silently making her plans, her phone buzzed on the table nearby.
She picked it up and checked the caller ID. It was Holley. Leila hesitated at first, but then answered. She heard Holley's clear voice from the other side of the phone, "Leila, have you completely forgotten that you need to go back to the Lu Family because your business has been flourishing? Do you still remember our deal?"
Over the phone, Holley's voice seemed so soft, as if it was immersed in the morning dew. But Leila knew that Holley was criticizing her.
She knitted her brows and asked firmly, "What do you want? What are you planning?"
Holley laughed into the phone. It sounded like she was mocking Leila. She felt humiliated and her fairy face immediately turned red.
"Relax, Leila. Let's have a face-to-face conversation. That'll be better than talking over the phone. Don't you think?"
Leila figured that she might have overreacted. So, she took a deep breath to steady herself.
"Okay. Name a place."
She and Holley had made an agreement and they had the same target-Sheryl. Since they had agreed to deal with her together, they would have to move forward with the best plan. "How about the newly opened ISA Beauty Club? I have been wanting to go there for a while. Let's go for a body spa tomorrow. We can relax and then talk," Holley said coldly. "Sounds good. See you tomorrow," Leila agreed without any hesitation.
At ISA Beauty Club
After a basic facial care, Leila and Holley were lying down on the massage bed, completely relaxed. They seldom had such an opportunity to clear their minds, even for just a while.
It was especially true for Leila. She had been exhausted recently. Her shallow face was proof that she often stayed up late; she had more wrinkles around her eyes and on her forehead. If it were not for the thick make-up, she would look like a ghost.
When she got up every morning, she tried her best to avoid looking in the mirror. She didn't want to see herself getting more and more ugly. She would feel inferior sometimes. After all, looks were so important for a woman.
The facial care in the beauty club made her feel much better. She secretly thanked Holley for selecting such a good place. After a few minutes of relaxation, Holley slowly started a serious conversation, getting directly to the point.
"How are things going between you and Melissa?" Since Holley was applying a facial mask, her words sounded very vague.
