The Apple of My Eye -
Chapter 1462 What Happened
Sheryl was taken aback by Cassie's overreaction.
She had only asked her to meet Nick. Wasn't that what she had always wanted? Why was she being so reluctant now?
Or was there something going on between them that she didn't know?
Sheryl tried to soothe Cassie and said softly, "Cassie, if you really don't want to meet Nick, I won't push you. But, you have to be honest with me. Did something happen between you two? Did Nick hurt you in any way? Tell me, Cassie. I'll help you out."
"Sher!" Cassie cried out abruptly, tears filling in her eyes. She was extremely upset and it was pretty much evident on her face. Sheryl couldn't help but feel sorry for her. She heaved a sigh and stood up from her seat, proceeding to sit by Cassie's side. "Tell me what happened," Sheryl said, wrapping Cassie's hands within her own.
"He...he cheated on me! He is seeing some other woman!" Cassie finally burst out. Bitterness crept through her heart.
"Some other woman?" Sheryl murmured in disbelief. 'What the hell?' As far as she knew, Nick was honest and decent. Moreover, he was not a philandering man. Cassie's accusation of Nick shocked her. "It's true," Cassie repeated, sobbing. Seeing that Sheryl wasn't convinced, Cassie decided to tell her everything that had happened.
"I saw it with my own eyes... I saw that woman at Nick's place. Sher, tell me, what should I do now? I really don't know what to do!" Cassie told her everything, except the incident that Jordan had taken her to a hotel.
She didn't mention it because she didn't think it was necessary. She didn't have any feelings for Jordan. He was just making useless efforts to get her attention.
"Cassie, calm down. Let me think this over," Sheryl said. Truth be told, she still couldn't believe it. She didn't think that she would ever hear such a thing about Nick.
But just as Cassie had said, it couldn't have been a mistake if she had seen it herself. But, it still sounded ridiculous to Sheryl.
It was difficult to digest that Nick would play around with different women. Nick wasn't the kind of man who pursued pleasure. What Cassie had seen might not have been the whole story. Sheryl felt that there might be more to this than Cassie thought.
She wanted to meet Nick right away and ask him to spill the beans. But she couldn't leave Cassie alone. And worse, Nick was nowhere to be found.
Cassie cried desperately, which knocked Sheryl off her feet. She didn't know how to comfort her. Finally, she wrapped her in her arms and patted her shoulder gently. They silently remained in each other's embrace.
Burying herself in Sheryl's arms, Cassie cried until she was free of the tightness in her heart. When she was done, she felt a little embarrassed about her inappropriate behavior in front of Sheryl. She wiped her tears away and blushed slightly. "Sher, I...I have to go now," she murmured weakly, keeping her head low.
Sheryl placed her hand softly on Cassie's shoulder and said, "Cassie, I won't speak in favor of either of you at this moment. But I promise you that I'll confront him and ask him for an explanation. If what you said is true, and he is actually a playboy, then I will break all ties with him."
"No, Sher, please don't do that. You have always treated him like your own brother, and I know that this relationship is precious to both of you. You shouldn't ruin your relationship with him for my sake," Cassie pleaded with a sad expression.
"When I first met him, he was a kind and honest boy who was loyal to his friends. That's why I treated him like my little brother. If he has changed into a totally different person now and has cast away his virtues, why should I treat him like a brother anymore?" Sheryl said with a serious frown.
Cassie had no choice but to nod in agreement. Secretly, she was also hoping that she had misunderstood Nick and that he wasn't cheating on her.
In Dream Garden
Since Leila had been driven out of the Lu family, Melissa knew her place in the house and maintained a low profile. Without Leila, no one stood by her anymore, and she felt utterly isolated. What was worse, Charles still blamed her for everything that had happened. The odds were against her, so she behaved at home to avoid displeasing Charles again.
However, it was hard to change a person's true nature that easily. After a few days of staying low, Melissa felt that the humble life was intolerable for her. She lived like an invisible person in the house, ignored by everyone else. She was extremely depressed at her own home.
She was the master of this house! She was desperate for some attention, so she decided to invite some of her rich friends over.
"Mrs. Wang, Mrs. Li, please come in. I haven't see you in a long time. You look good!" Her guests arrived one after the other. It was a small group of rich wives, and they loved going to parties like this one because their life was pretty much stagnant and boring. This was the only way for them to have some fun.
"Thank you, Mrs. Lu. You look great too! I see that you have lost some weight. You look beautiful!" The four women gathered in a circle and started flattering each other.
After a few minutes of small talk, without wasting any more time, they rushed to sit around the table. Melissa laid a deck of cards on the table and saw how eager each of them was to win the game. After all, it was their only battlefield.
When they were halfway through their game, an abrupt noise from the front entrance attracted their attention. They turned to look in the direction and saw Clark and Shirley walk in. They had just come back from school.
The children were surprised to replace the group of strange women in their home, playing cards. Though it was impolite to do so, they didn't want to greet them or speak to them. Their grandma liked these kinds of activities, and the old ladies were loud and disturbing.
The shuffling of the cards, the screams when someone won a game and their raging disputes were all loud enough to turn their home upside down.
Even though Clark was accustomed to it, he still felt annoyed by their presence. He wanted to cover Shirley's ears to protect her from the noise.
So he ignored them and trotted towards the stairway with Shirley. However, when they were just about to step onto the first stair, Helen, one of Melissa's guests, beckoned to them.
Helen loved children. But her son was a playboy who refused to get married. She was an old, lonely woman. How badly she wanted a grandchild! It was her biggest dream, but her son didn't want any children, at least not at the moment.
So, when she saw how adorable Clark and Shirley were, she couldn't help feeling sentimental. They were so beautiful! Their cute eyes and angel-like faces attracted Helen. How she hoped that they were her own grandchildren! She wanted them to come closer to her so that she could take a good look at them.
