The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 1473 Isla’s Friend

Feeling sick to her stomach again, Isla silently groaned as she clutched at her abdominal region. She stayed in the bathroom and gritted her teeth in order not to make a sound. If Aron heard her, he would become upset and she didn't want him to be upset.

A long time later, when she felt better, she stood up and heaved a sigh of relief. Then she flushed the stink-pot and let out a groan.

She thought that Aron wouldn't hear her over the sound of the flush, but right after she flushed, she knew that she was wrong.

"Are you okay, Isla? Does it hurt again?"

Aron shouted anxiously as he knocked on the door.

Isla felt a small warmth rising in her chest, despite her suffering like this. Having Aron being concerned for her was touching and it made her be able to stand the pain.

"No, I'm fine. Don't worry," she managed to reply. All of a sudden, the pain in her stomach seemed nothing compared to the love and concern that Aron had for her. She turned to wash her hands, wiped the sweat off her face, and then turned to go out.

Aron was waiting outside the door; he took her in her arms as soon as it opened and helped her back to bed.

"Does it still hurt?" he asked again, unable to bear the pain that he felt.

Isla shook her head and forced a smile. "No. You're worrying too much. I'm fine. I'll say if it hurts. You know me."

"That's right! You'll cry even if you catch a cold. You hate hurting, and having pain." Aron gave her an understanding smile. Isla was his girl, with everything that came with her.

Isla sighed quietly and looked out the window. "It's getting bright. You'd better have some sleep before going to work," she said.

"No, I'll take the day off. I'll stay here with you," Aron said.

"No, I can manage it myself. You can't do anything even if you're here. Don't worry! The doctors can take good care of me! People will blame me for holding you back!" Isla told him. Her tone riddled with seriousness and worry.

"No one will blame you for that. I'll stay here until you're discharged. I don't think I can devote myself to my work when I know you're alone in the hospital," Aron explained to her, and he did mean every word of it.

"Please go to work. I won't be alone. I'll call Sheryl to come over," Isla said. "She'll come over as soon as I call her. Please don't worry about me anymore."

"No, that doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Sheryl has a husband and two kids to attend to. And besides, she needs to take care of her company too. I believe there are a lot of things that can wait. I'm the best choice here. Stop fighting this, and get some rest," Aron urged her.

"Then how about your company? There must be lots of things too!" Isla continued protesting.

"Just listen to me and get some rest. I can manage. Relax!" Aron said, raising a finger against his lips, motioning her not to talk anymore.

"Fine," Isla muttered, resigning to him. She lay down on her back.

Their conversation was over now, and secretly, Isla knew that he was right, and she was glad he won the argument. But there was only a single bed in the room. She could sleep in her bed, but how about Aron? Where would he sleep? Would he sleep on the floor?

It was a ward, but because they had arrived in the late hours of the night before, there were a limited number of staff that could help them. So beside the one bed, Isla's bed, there were only three chairs in the ward. It wasn't much, but Aron could make do.

"Get some rest now. I'll sleep on a chair," Aron told her, pointing at the chairs across the ward from them.

"It won't be comfortable-too short and too hard to sleep on! Come on, we can sleep together here," Isla said as she scooted over a bit to give Aron some room. She patted the spot next to her.

"No, it's too small. You're the patient. Don't worry. I'll be okay," Aron replied with a smile. Then he leaned over to her and whispered into her ear, "Besides, it'll be hard for me to fall asleep with you in my arms, you know. We have plenty of time to sleep together later, after you get all better. I promise I'll hold you until you're tired."

"Aha!" Isla exclaimed, pushing him away. She lay back down and then rolled over so that she wasn't facing him.

Aron smiled, chuckled, and shook his head slowly. He watched her for a while before going over to the chairs. Taking two of them, he put them side by side, and attempted to lay on them, but he found that Isla was right. They were too narrow and he could only stay in one position on them; he couldn't move his feet or turn.

However, he was exhausted after the rough night before and he soon fell into a deep sleep.

When the room finally got quiet, Isla felt awful, hearing his regular breathing.

By this point in their relationship, she knew that whenever Aron told her that he would do anything for her, he never joked, and she was always so overwhelmed by his love and constant worrying and unwavering support. Isla felt lucky, even blessed, to have him around.

Isla rolled over again to look at him sleeping contentedly and soundly. Soon, she also fell asleep, an appreciative smile lingering on her lips.

She had such a sound and peaceful sleep and when she opened her eyes again, it was late morning the next day.

She sat up and outstretched her arms, yawning. She looked over to the other side of the ward, but found that Aron was no longer there. She was in the room alone.

She cocked her head, confused. 'Where is Aron? He said that he would stay here with me today,' she thought to herself.

The hospital had long started its day. People's voices and footsteps drifted through to her ward from time to time. Although she had a headache from her lack of sleep, Isla decided to get up. Maybe because she was refreshed after a couple of hours' rest, or maybe it was because the smell of disinfectant was easing her nerves, her stomach pains weren't that strong.

"Morning! How are you doing?" Aron greeted cheerfully as he entered the room, a bento box in his hands.

"Morning! Are you going to grab some breakfast?" Isla smiled at him and then began to slide off her bed.

"You were still sleeping when I woke up. Look at you, I don't think you got enough sleep. I think you should sleep more," he told her worriedly.

"How do I look now? Do I look awful?" Isla asked upset. She cared a lot about how she looked. So when he said that, she immediately went to her bag to get some of her makeup products.

"I'm just kidding! Relax! You look as pretty as a morning rose! Go and wash your hands. Let's have breakfast!" Aron stumbled over his words a bit, guilty for his poor word choice. "That's it! Don't make fun of me anymore! It's annoying!" Isla pouted. She rolled her eyes and let go of her bag. She walked into the bathroom to wash her hands and face.

Aron couldn't help but laugh. He watched her go into the bathroom, shaking his head.

Clearly she valued her appearance more than anything else, so he had better stop joking around, or else he would be in deep trouble.

He went to the small table in the room and placed the bento box on it. At the same time, a nurse came in with a tray in her hands.

"Is this Isla Zhao's ward?" the nurse asked, looking at the label on the door.

Aron turned towards the door and smiled. The nurse was cute and kind-looking.

"Yes. She is in the bathroom right now. Is there anything I can do for you?" he asked politely.

"No, thank you. Good to meet you finally, Aron!" the nurse exclaimed. She put her tray on the bed table and then reached out her hand toward Aron.

"You know me? But I don't think we know each other," Aron said surprisingly. He shook hands with the nurse, wondering at the back of his mind who she could be. It seemed that she knew Isla. "No, we didn't. But I know Isla, and you're her husband, right?"

The nurse smiled sweetly at him.

"Right, good to meet you! I'm Aron Gu, Isla's husband. She'll be here in a minute. May I have your name?" Aron asked, figuring that he would get to know her since she was Isla's friend.
