The Apple of My Eye -
Chapter 1500 An Unexpected Outcome
Strangely, Sheryl couldn't replace any news report on the mall incident yesterday. There wasn't even a single mention of the Cloud Advertising Company.
Feeling utterly confused, she stood there blankly for a while. She recalled how Lancy threatened her yesterday at the hospital.
Lancy was obviously serious about what she said. Someone behind her had planned the accident, and they meant to target Sheryl and her company. Lancy swore to defame her through the false news coverage. But why would they give up in the middle of their plan?
Or maybe something happened that ruined their plans.
But Peterson himself said that they were specifically instructed to expose the case. Someone obviously pressured the media to report the accident. While Sheryl didn't know who that person could be, it was definitely someone influential. Someone powerful enough tried to bring Sheryl down.
However, their careful plan seemed to stop abruptly this morning. What happened?
Sheryl didn't know what was happening so she decided to give Phoebe a call.
"Good morning, Ms. Xia!" Phoebe wasn't surprised to receive a call from Sheryl despite being so early in the morning. On the upside, she even seemed to sound ecstatic to hear from Sheryl.
In fact she got up earlier this morning than usual to check the news only to nothing. She was relieved when Sheryl called her because she was confused. She figured it must've been Sheryl's doing. "Phoebe, have you checked the news?" Sheryl asked.
"Yes, I have. Ms. Xia, you're amazing! How did you get that done? I'm so glad you figured a way out!" Phoebe couldn't help but express her astonishment to Sheryl. She continued, "Lancy's threats were empty after all! She's fake! It was just all talk!"
Sheryl immediately figured that Phoebe had nothing to do with it. She called her with the intention of asking if she had any idea what was going on, but it turned out that Phoebe knew just as much as she did. In fact, if anything, she only got more confused. She didn't want to complicate things more so she changed the topic. "Phoebe, could you go to the hospital today? Ask Lancy's doctor how long she's staying there for. We're going to pay for everything, medical expenses and all that. But that's just it, nothing more."
Phoebe was relieved to hear that because she didn't want to talk to Lancy anymore. She couldn't take her mind off Lancy's tantrums and terrain of terror the previous day. If it hadn't been their fault, she wouldn't have cared about Lancy. They only tolerate her because they're partly responsible for her.
"No problem, Ms. Xia. I'll go to the hospital right away. I just need to finish some work," Phoebe said.
"All right. Good bye."
After hanging up, Sheryl decided to put the whole thing aside first. She stood up and went to the children's room.
Just as she was nearing the entryway of their room, she heard the kids talking.
"Daddy, why are you up so early today? You got up earlier than we did!" Shirley trilled.
Charles chuckled. Sheryl heard some movement-Charles must have been dressing Shirley. He replied, "Yes, Daddy's quite up early today. That's because I keep good hours!"
"Daddy, what does that mean?"
Shirley asked immediately. Clark couldn't help but glance at her, judging her. Then he shook his head, thinking, 'Why my sister is such a little fool, while I'm so smart?'
He thought, 'How can that be? We both have the same parents. Maybe, I was taking all the nutrition when we were in Mom's belly and there wasn't any left for Shirley. Is that why she's not as smart as I am?' Clark felt guilty at this. At that moment, he decided to always protect his little sister to make up for taking up all the nutrition when they were still in their mom's belly.
"Shirley, Daddy went to bed early last night, so he got up early in the morning. Do you get it now?" Clark explained patiently.
Charles couldn't help but be amused at Charles.
Meanwhile, Sheryl was taken aback at what she'd heard.
What time did Charles come home last night?
She thought he didn't come home last night. So it turned out he did? She slept in their room last night but she didn't notice him climb onto bed. If he did come home last night, where did he stay?
As she thought of all of this, she suddenly hesitated to come in. They were all talking and having fun with each other-it would be awkward if she suddenly came in.
She stood outside the door for a while. She finally decided to come in because she wanted to apologize to the kids for not being able to pick them up from school the previous day. If she didn't come see them before she left, they might get feel neglected.
So Sheryl pushed the door open and stepped inside.
Shirley saw her as soon as she entered the room so she exclaimed joyfully, "Mom! You're here!"
"Good morning, Mom!" Clark cried too when he saw her.
"Morning, babies," Sheryl smiled. She purposely avoided Charles' gaze as she talked with the kids. She could see out of the corner of her eye that Charles was looking at her.
Strangely, Sheryl's heart skipped a beat-Charles always had an effect on her.
"Shirley, you should learn to dress yourself. You're already a big girl and you shouldn't be relying on other people so much, right?" Sheryl said. Shirley stood in front of Charles and was holding her arms up so Charles could put her dress over her head.
Shirley pouted her lips in response, "Mom, I don't know how to dress myself..."
"So you have to learn it if you can't do it. Clark is able to dress himself. That means you can also dress yourself. I believe in you." Sheryl put Clark as an example to encourage her.
Shirley paused and then she turned to look at Clark who was putting on clothes. She nodded excitedly, "Mom, I want to learn how to dress myself too!"
Then she turned to Charles. "Daddy, I'll do it myself! I'll dress myself!"
Charles gave her a huge smile and stopped. He handed Shirley her clothes. He was very proud of his daughter.
Shirley recalled how her parents had dressed her in the past. She also learned from Clark, put the clothes from over her head, and tried to get her head through the hole. Everything seemed to be going well. However, within a few seconds, Shirley's head got stuck. She pulled and she pulled but she failed. She was still stuck.
"Help! Mom, Dad, help me!" she screamed in a muffled voice because her head was wrapped in the clothes.
"Shirley, what's wrong?" Sheryl rushed to her and asked anxiously.
She bent down to check on Shirley. She didn't realize how closely Clark was standing next to her. But she focused her attention on Shirley. She tugged at Shirley's clothes to help her out.
