The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 1513 I'm Your Bodyguard

"It's no use crying over spilled milk, but we can't trust Lancy. I guess the police are expecting Lancy to give a full confession, so they can trace her back to me, but they won't be able to replace me that easily. The only thing we're dealing with now is that Sheryl knows we exist, so she must be already keeping an eye," Bernard added.

Rachel nodded, her eyes sharp as knives. "I think the most urgent thing to do now is get rid of Lancy so that we don't have to worry about anything anymore," she said.

"Of course. She knows too much about us. As long as she's alive, we'll never be able to sleep well. She could tell on us any time." Bernard agreed.

"In that case, you have to act tonight. You have to go to the police station tonight. I don't think you'll replace it difficult to get rid of someone in the police station, right?" Rachel asked.

"Yes, I can handle it. I'll do it tonight. Don't worry," Bernard answered curtly.

At Dream Garden

As soon as Sheryl returned home from work, she received a call from Isla.

"Sher, I heard that you still went to work today? But you fainted yesterday! Why don't you rest for a few days? You need to rest. You're too weak to work!" Isla said as soon as Sheryl answered the call. Feeling a little tired, Sheryl rubbed her forehead. She tried to waive her off. "I'm fine. I've already recovered from having a good night's sleep last night."

"Don't push yourself too much. You're a mother already with two kids. You aren't as strong as you were before. Take care of yourself. Even though they've already caught Lancy, the police still don't know who she's working for. You have to still be careful especially when you go out. Remember to always have bodyguards with you," Isla advised, sounding concerned.

Sheryl felt both moved and amused. She thought Isla was overreacting.

Since the police already had Lancy, whoever she was working for must be freaking out right now. They must be trying to hide now. No one would be stupid enough to risk getting exposed just to attack her. However, she didn't argue with Isla anymore because she didn't want to worry her friend more.

"Isla, I know. You're still a patient, so you have to take care of yourself. Don't go to work yet until you've fully recovered," Sheryl said. She too was worried about Isla's health.

"I know. Don't worry. Aron is taking care of me." A smile crept on Isla's face as she thought about Aron. Then she asked, "By the way, how are you doing with Charles? And the old witch, is she still bullying you?"

Sheryl was taken aback. The old witch? Melissa was her mother-in-law. It would be impolite to refer to her like that.

But she wasn't going to correct her. Isla knew what kind of person Melissa was and how bad she treated Sheryl. She didn't deserve Isla's respect.

"No, she doesn't cause trouble for me anymore. Charles and I are good. Thanks to him, we were able to catch Lancy and solve the crisis in our company," Sheryl said.

"Good! If he hurts you, I won't let him go that easily," Isla said, teasing.

Sheryl couldn't help but chuckle. "Does Aron know about that fierce side of yours?" she asked.

Isla smiled, "Of course, he knows. That's why he loves me! It's the best part of me, you know. Ha-ha!"

They continued to chat for a while. As they talked, Sheryl couldn't help but admire Isla and Aron's relationship.

They'd gone through so many things already and they still remained as in love as ever. It was the most precious thing. She wondered if she and Charles could also handle anything that life threw at them. That night, Sheryl tossed and turned in bed, unable to fall asleep.

She felt sticky because the air was humid in the room. But it was early in the autumn, and the air was supposed to be cool and refreshing. If anything, it was supposed to be comfortable at this time of the year. She felt hot because of all her tossing and turning. She couldn't keep still the entire night. Normally, she enjoyed talking with the kids and Charles during dinner but tonight, she was distracted. She couldn't even focus on what the kids were telling her.

At that moment, Charles had just stepped out of the bathroom with just a towel wrapped around his waist.

Sheryl glanced at him only to replace him half-naked-she couldn't help but blush.

Even though they'd been married for years with two kids, Sheryl still blushed whenever she saw Charles' body. That was why Sheryl preferred to have the lights off when they made love.

Charles was her husband, but she always remained seemingly chaste in front of him.

Charles was very attractive. He had six packs, and all his muscles just added to his overall charm.

As he walked towards her, Sheryl's heart started beating quicker and quicker. She almost felt dizzy. Luckily she was just lying in the bed. If she'd been standing, she might have already fainted or fallen over. "Still not sleeping?" Charles asked as he sat on the bed.

His hair was still wet. A few strands of wet hair was stuck on his face. His face was a bit flushed from the hot shower he'd just had. He looked charming as ever.

Sheryl felt even hotter now. She pushed back the blanket and complained to Charles, "It's too hot. I can't fall asleep."

"Should I turn on the air conditioner?" Charles offered.

Sheryl didn't like using air conditioner because it made her skin dry.

But since Sheryl was complaining that it was hot, Charles figured it would be okay to turn on the air conditioner that night.

"No. I can't sleep because so many things are running through my mind," Sheryl sighed. She decided to tell him about it. "Charles, I have this gut feeling that something big is going to happen tonight, and that's why I can't keep still."

Charles reached out to caress Sheryl's face and smiled, "I'm here with you. I promise nothing will happen. Don't worry about it. I'm your bodyguard."

Sheryl was amused; she couldn't help but smile, "Well, thank you, Mr. Lu. I'm looking forward to working with you. I guess you'll have to sleep on the floor, because a master never shares her bed with a bodyguard."

Charles widened his eyes. "Mrs. Lu, ever so cruel to me! I only work as a bodyguard part time. My full time job is... to sleep with you," Charles leaned down to her and whispered. Sheryl's cheeks started to feel hot.
