The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 1621 A Threat

Holley was lying in Black's arms when Ferry called her in the morning.

"Hello, who is it?" she asked impatiently as she was annoyed that someone had disturbed her lovely morning cuddling with Black. Holley hadn't looked at the number when she picked up the phone. "Don't you miss me? We haven't seen each other for days."

Ferry's cold voice sobered Holley up immediately. With her eyes wide open, Holley looked at Black carefully and felt relieved when she found that Black was still asleep. 'Thank God!' Holley heaved a sigh of relief as she got out of bed carefully.

She headed for the balcony.

"Why are you calling me? Is anything wrong?" Holley lowered her voice and asked.

The mere thought of Ferry sent a shiver down Holley's spine. She didn't want to have any connections with this man at all.

Holley had asked Tom to protect her from Ferry, but it seemed as if Tom didn't do anything about it. Tom had also stopped answering her calls and messages. Running out of options, she then decided to stay with Black so that she would have the protection of the Hu family. After all, the Hu family had lots of connection and was a powerful family. However, Ferry didn't seem to be fazed at all; like he wasn't even scared of the Hu family. She really didn't know what it would take to stop Ferry.

"What? Can't I call you for nothing? I miss you, babe," Ferry teased. His playfulness made Holley shiver.

Before Holley could say something, Ferry sneered at her, "Do you really think that Black and his father can protect you? Why can't you just be with me?"

Upon hearing this, Holley turned to look at Black who was sound asleep. 'Such a loser!' Holley shook her head as she thought to herself. She understood she couldn't depend on Black, but his family was powerful, and that counted. She couldn't help but be suspicious of Ferry. 'Is Ferry willing to go up against the Hu family for me?' Holley wondered.

"What do you want from me? I've already done what you asked me to do! Leila's getting the files you want." Holley ground her teeth, lowering her voice. She was afraid and angry at the same time. "Great, you did a good job, babe. As long as you listen to me and do as I say, you're going to live a happy life. If you don't, well, you know what I'm capable of. I can make your life miserable if I want to." Ferry was practically threatening Holley, but the way he said it sounded like he was telling a joke. He didn't even break a sweat. He enjoyed the feeling of having someone under his control. Holley understood what Ferry meant.

She remained silent for a long time before she answered, "Okay, I got it. I'll do as you say and I'll listen to you. Just don't call me. If Black starts to get suspicious, that won't be good for us." When Holley had spoken, her voice was firm. But it took all she had to say something like that to him. As soon as she finished speaking, she hung up the phone without waiting for Ferry to respond. Ferry glanced at the screen when he suddenly heard the dial tone. He smiled coldly. "Hanging up on me? All right. I can let you get away with it, for now. But at the end of the day, I decide what happens to every one of you."

Holley stood still on the balcony after she hung up, lost in thought. She was worried that she had angered Ferry by hanging up on him. What if Ferry called her again and started questioning her? She wouldn't know what to do.

She waited and waited, but Ferry didn't call her back. Holley felt relieved.

"Holley, you're up so early!" Black whispered in Holley's ears. Suddenly, Black was behind her, hugging her, much to Holley's surprise.

Holley instinctively pushed Black away.

Black was confused by Holley's reaction. He furrowed his brows and stared at her, perplexed.

Holley turned her head only to see Black. His face was so close to hers that Holley thought it was Ferry. Her body started shaking. When she turned her head again, she took a few steps back, refusing to look at Black.

"Holley, what's wrong?" Black asked in concern. Black walked closer to Holley and put his hands on her shoulders, in an attempt to calm Holley down. He could tell that something was wrong from Holley's terrified expression.

"Ah, what?" Holley managed to compose herself, now that she had realized it was Black. She felt warm and safe. Ferry had slipped from her mind, for the time being.

"What happened?" Black asked again because Holley didn't answer him the first time.

"Nothing, it's just a little chilly out here. Why are you up too?" Holley rested her head on Black's shoulder as she responded. She wished Ferry would never call her again.

"You seemed to be thinking so hard about something, so I got up. I was worried."

"Oh, okay. I'm fine. Don't worry about me. Let's go inside." Without another word, Holley returned to the bedroom without even waiting or looking at Black who was left alone on the balcony.

He was confused and didn't know what had just happened.

In a five star restaurant, downtown

Holley and Black sat across from one another. Black kept putting food on Holley's plate.

Holley just nodded at Black. She kept her eyes on her plate as she cut her steak. She just kept on cutting even though her steak had already been cut into small cubes. Clearly, she didn't have any appetite. Upon noticing this, Black asked in concern, "Holley, what's wrong? You're scaring me. You didn't seem okay this morning either. Tell me what happened."

Black grabbed Holley's hand to snap her out of her daze. She looked around very carefully as if she was making sure that no one was watching them. Then she smiled at Black bashfully and pulled her hand back. "Nothing, why?"

"You seem to have a lot on your mind. I'm worried about you." Black had truly fallen in love with Holley. He cared for her so much that he noticed everything about her, even the slightest mood changes. He wanted to be the most thoughtful and considerate boyfriend because he wanted to make Holley the happiest girl in the world.

"Nothing, I just don't have feel like eating," Holley said as an excuse.

Black wasn't stupid. He knew Holley was lying and hiding something from him. But he didn't want to force Holley into saying something since it seemed like she didn't want to talk about it yet.

At that moment, Holley's phone started ringing, which made her anxious. However, when she saw the number, she seemed relieved.

"Sorry, I need to take this call," Holley said to Black. Then she left her seat and walked out of the restaurant to answer the call.

"Why are you calling me? Aren't you supposed to be taking care of Charles?" Holley asked Leila in confusion.

Everyone knew that the CEO of the Shining Company was in a coma and he hadn't woken up yet.

Leila was disappointed to hear this. She took a deep breath and told herself not to take it personally. She rolled her eyes before answering, "I'm not a nurse. You know, just because I'm watching Charles in the hospital, doesn't mean he'll wake up anytime soon or he'll recover with the snap of a finger."

"Then what are you calling me for? Do you have something for me?" Holley asked excitedly, hoping Leila had some good news for her so that she would feel better at least.

Leila sighed helplessly. "Do you really think that I can just go inside the Shining Company office now that Charles is in a coma?"

"Then why are you calling me?!" Holley was irritated. It had been a while since she and Leila had made the deal. Back then, Leila was confident that she would be able to seduce Charles. But what was she even doing now? She couldn't even get inside the company. Holley was starting to doubt Leila's capabilities.

"Once Sheryl divorces Charles, who do you think Charles will replace her with? Plus, I don't even have to mention the files. The company will be mine by then." Leila wasn't bragging. She was just that confident.
