The Apple of My Eye -
Chapter 1632 Scared The Shit Out Of Her
"Thank you very much, doctor. We should leave now so Cassie can rest." Cora knew she wouldn't get anything out of Cassie, so she decided to leave the room to give Nick and Cassie some alone time. Cassie's room suddenly fell under a thick silence when Cora and the doctor left.
Both Nick and Cassie didn't say anything. The atmosphere was a little bit awkward. Cassie had been in a coma for so long, and they had so many things to discuss, but they just didn't know where to start. Afte a long pause, Nick opened his mouth to break the silence, but Cassie beat him to it.
"Do you think that we should be suspicious of Leila? Do you think she's the one who pushed me down the stairs?" Cassie wasn't stupid. While she couldn't exactly remember what had happened, she had a feeling that it had something to do with Leila, but she wasn't 100 percent sure. She couldn't just blame Leila unless she was really sure. It was just a hunch. What if Leila was innocent after all? Cassie didn't want to accuse Leila of anything, especially if she really didn't do anything.
"Yes, we should be suspicious of her. The CCTV monitor showed you following Leila to the rooftop. It showed Leila coming down afterward, but you never came down. No one else was seen going up to the rooftop. Who else would it be, but Leila?" As Nick told Cassie about the CCTV, the image of Cassie falling down the stairs came to him, and it upset him.
"But I can't remember anything." Cassie hated that she couldn't remember anything. How could she not know? How could she not remember?
"That's alright, Cassie. Don't pressure yourself too much. Sooner or later, it'll come to you. Just give it time. What's important is that you're awake now and you're safe. We should just focus on that and be grateful, okay?" Nick pulled Cassie into his arms and comforted her.
Cassie calmed down as she inhaled Nick's familiar scent. It was warm and comforting. Soon, she drifted off to sleep.
Sheryl was very excited when she heard that Cassie had woken up. She went to the hospital to visit Cassie after she got off work.
She felt greatly relieved when she saw Cassie. Her face wasn't as pale anymore, and Cassie seemed to be recovering well. She was almost back to her old energetic self again. However, Sheryl couldn't help but think of Charles. 'Cassie's already woken up. How come Charles is still in a coma?'
Sheryl wondered whether she could get through this. She had so much on her plate lately, and she was exhausted.
"Sher, don't worry. I'm sure Mr. Lu will wake up soon," Cassie said as if she had read Sheryl's mind. She had noticed the worry and anxiety on Sheryl's face right away.
"I know, Cassie. I know that he can get through this!" Sheryl smiled. She wanted to show Cassie that there was no need to worry about her.
She purposely didn't ask Cassie about who had pushed her down the stairs. Before she came to the hospital, Nick reminded Sheryl about this on the phone. What Cassie needed right now was rest and good vibes so there was no need to bring up things that could upset her.
Sheryl stayed with Cassie for a long while because she didn't want to leave Cassie all alone.
When Sheryl left, she bumped into Nick who had just gotten off work.
"Sher, you're leaving?" Nick could tell from Sheryl's face that she was tired, and he couldn't help but worry. He thought to ask Sheryl if she was going to visit Charles but decided against it because it seemed like Sheryl already had a lot on her mind.
Nick didn't say anything else as he was afraid that he would get Sheryl upset.
"Uh-huh, it's getting pretty late now, and I should get home. You take good care of Cassie. Call me if anything happens." Sheryl smiled and looked at Nick as she left.
Sheryl bumped into Leila just as she was leaving the hospital.
What were the odds?! Leila was the last person that Sheryl wanted to see. She was too tired to deal with Leila now. So she turned around in an attempt to dodge Leila. But Leila had already seen Sheryl, and she wouldn't let her get away that easily.
"Sheryl, are you hiding from me? Why are you hiding from me? Did you do something shady that you don't want to see me?" Leila asked condescendingly, crossing her arms across her chest. This annoyed Sheryl.
"Leila, I'm done with you. Just go away!" Sheryl glared at Leila. When she responded, her voice was cold.
This got on Leila's nerves. She yelled back, "Why are you acting like you're the CEO of Shining Company? You're just the wife of the CEO, you know?"
"Aren't I? And what about you, Leila? What are you? You're just a mistress. You don't have the right to judge me." Sheryl had never been afraid to argue with Leila. She was just too tired to do it. But if Leila insisted, Sheryl would be glad to fight back.
Sheryl looked into Leila's eyes and continued, "Leila, I have warned you so many times. But it seems like you don't listen to me at all. If you continue this stupid drama of yours and try to get me into trouble again--I'm telling you now, I'm never leaving Charles. That will never happen. Your dream will never come true. Is that what you wanted to hear?"
"Are you threatening me?" Leila barked.
Sheryl smiled, shaking her head. She said, "Isn't it obvious? Why do you insist on asking stupid questions? Or do I really need to spell things out for you so that you'll stop your nonsense?" "Sheryl, I swear, one day, you're going to regret everything." Leila pointed her fingers at Sheryl. It was just unfair. Why did Sheryl have all the good things in this world, while she had to suffer?
She loved Charles as much as Sheryl did. How come Sheryl got to be happily married to Charles, while she was despised by him?
"Regret?" Sheryl was amused by Leila. She shook her head and turned around, ready to leave.
Leila was waiting for Sheryl to respond. She didn't expect that Sheryl would just cut their conversation short by leaving abruptly.
"Are you giving up?" Leila yelled at Sheryl's back.
"Leila, if you say one more word, I'm going to make sure that you regret it for the rest of your life!" Sheryl wasn't lying.
All Sheryl cared about now was Charles waking up soon. She really didn't have the time or energy to care about anything else. She could ignore Melissa and Leila; however, Leila wouldn't leave her alone, and Sheryl was getting pretty tired of it. She needed to stand up to Leila and fight back so that Leila would leave her alone once and for all.
Sheryl left as soon as she had finished speaking. She didn't even wait for Leila to respond. Leila could do nothing except silently watched as Sheryl walked away.
When Leila went inside the hospital, she was fuming.
Sheryl often went to the hospital to visit Charles. Usually, Melissa and Leila would attempt to stop her, but they never succeeded. That night, she was just leaving after visiting Charles. Melissa had asked Leila to follow Sheryl.
After what happened last time, Leila didn't want to confront Sheryl again but, she had no choice since Melissa had asked her.
"Sheryl, sto..." Leila didn't even finish her sentence. She was too shocked.
Sheryl was confused. She followed Leila's gaze and saw Cassie.
Then Sheryl realized that Leila didn't know that Cassie had woken up. Sheryl could tell how frightened Leila was.
"Oh, I see. You didn't know that Cassie woke up, right?" Sheryl teased Leila.
"I don't know who she is. Why would I care if she woke up or not?" Leila said, feigning calmness even though deep inside, she was panicking.
This was the first time that Sheryl saw Leila like this. If anything, it only convinced her more that it was indeed Leila who had pushed Cassie down the stairs. Once Cassie remembered everything, Leila would finally be put in her place.
After everything that Leila had done, Sheryl wouldn't just let her get away that easily.
