The Apple of My Eye -
Chapter 1636 We Can't Even Be Friends Anymore
Caught off guard, Sheryl found herself locked inside Lewis' arms.
"Mr. Xu, let go of me!" after struggling several times to free herself from his vice grip arms, Sheryl screamed. She couldn't help getting angry at him.
"I won't let you go until you agree with me!" Lewis insisted.
His words took Sheryl aback. She couldn't believe that Lewis would act so shamelessly!
All her attempts of getting rid of Lewis failed. Biting her lip at last, Sheryl finally gave up and stopped struggling.
After noticing Sheryl's silence, Lewis continued, "Sheryl, you know that I did all of this for you. You're the only one that I want!"
"You should already know that you can't force anyone to love you. For the last time, I'm warning you. If you don't let me go, we can't even be friends anymore," Sheryl stated coldly.
Hearing her words, Lewis suddenly came to his sense. 'Why am I being so irrational just now? What have I done to Sheryl?' Lewis thought in disbelief.
He released his grip and stood aghast, staring at his hands. He couldn't believe what he had just done. But he also realized that his feelings for Sheryl were so strong and uncontrollable that he had lost his head at that moment.
As soon as Lewis let go of her, Sheryl quickly rushed away and out of his reach. She was afraid that he would do something to her again.
Soon enough, she found herself a few meters away from Lewis.
By the time Lewis had realized what happened, Sheryl had already reached her car and was ready to get in.
"Sheryl!" running towards her, Lewis called out.
Looking at Lewis from a distance, Sheryl hastened her action, trying to escape his pursuit.
However, Lewis ran faster. Before she could get in her car, Lewis was already standing in front of her.
"Sheryl, I'm so sorry! I was being too rude just now. I didn't mean to..." Lewis explained quickly.
"Lewis, I don't need your explanation. I see you as a friend only, nothing more. I hope you can understand that we can't be together. Please, stay away from me from now on," Sheryl snapped coldly with an impatient expression. She didn't want to listen to any of his excuses anymore.
Sheryl knew that she must put him off as soon as possible. Therefore, she decided to tell him the truth, though it might hurt Lewis to hear. It was better than letting him continue living in a fantasy world. Looking at Sheryl with a pained expression, Lewis wondered what she was thinking about.
Assuming that she had successfully convinced Lewis to give up, Sheryl felt relieved. However, just as she was ready to get into her car, Lewis grabbed her arm again.
"Sheryl, is Charles really so much better than me?" Lewis asked angrily. He could no longer contain his feelings. He didn't understand why Sheryl would choose Charles over him. He always thought that he was superior in all aspects. Why would Sheryl ignore him all the time?
"Lewis, love is not something that you can measure according to certain criteria. You can't force it on people. I don't love you, which I have told you quite clearly. How many times do you want me to repeat it?" Sheryl spat. Sheryl didn't know what else she could say or do to make Lewis give up the notion.
She was confident that she could deal with a regular suitor. But she didn't think that a man as stubborn as Lewis could be sent away so easily. He refused to listen to her, anyway.
"Love can be cultivated, right? You know what, everybody talks about your family's business now. Nobody believes that your relationship with Charles will last." Seeing that Sheryl wanted to break free, Lewis tightened his grip.
Feeling the pain in her arm, Sheryl couldn't help groaning aloud.
"Did I hurt you?" Lewis asked anxiously, realizing that he was hurting her. He was concerned about her, so he loosened his grip, but made sure that he still held her.
"Lewis, what do you want?" Sheryl finally asked, feeling helpless.
She didn't want to continue this anymore. The only thing that she wanted was to leave, and she was pretty sure her expression echoed this.
"Why do you want to leave me so desperately?" Lewis asked in a low voice, showing how hurt he felt.
Sheryl didn't answer him. She just stared at him like he was a stranger.
Feeling uncomfortable under Sheryl's cold gaze, Lewis queried, "Why are you staring at me?"
"Lewis, what have I done or said that made you think that I might love you?" As far as she could remember, they weren't even close friends before. So why would Lewis take a fancy to her?
"No, you haven't done anything to mislead me. But I love you, and that is the truth! I believe that I can give you a happy life!" Lewis continued, still holding her arm even though he knew that she disliked it. "What are you doing there?" Melissa's sharp voice reached both their ears.
Hearing her shrill question, Sheryl struggled to shake off Lewis' hands again but failed.
With her eyebrows tightly knitted, Sheryl glanced at Lewis and said in a blaming voice, "Lewis, let go of me if you don't want to get me in trouble!"
Hearing Sheryl's words, Lewis had no choice but to release her.
As soon as she was free, Sheryl strode towards Melissa, hoping to explain to her.
But before she could say anything, Melissa blurted out, "Leila told me that you and Lewis were flirting with each other by the entrance, but I didn't believe her. Sheryl, you're such a bitch! I already caught you once, but I didn't expect that you would do it again!" Melissa was so angry that her body was trembling in rage.
A few minutes ago, while she was sitting with Charles in his room, she got the call from Leila.
"Aunt Melissa, hurry to the entrance of the hospital. I saw Sheryl with Lewis right now. I'd like to see how she can deny it this time!" Leila had panted on the other end of the line as soon as Melissa answered the call.
After hearing Leila out, Melissa had rushed to the entrance. To her surprise, she saw Lewis hug Sheryl tightly in his arms.
"Mom, I don't want to fight with you out here. It's not like what you think. Anyway, it's unnecessary to explain to you. I have to go now," Sheryl said coldly to Melissa, ready to turn around and leave.
She acted so quickly that Melissa didn't have time to react. When Melissa realized what hit her, Sheryl had already driven away.
"You'd better think it over before you decide to be with that bitch! She's a slut, you know?" venting her anger on Lewis instead, Melissa warned him sharply.
After Sheryl had rejected him, Lewis was both angry and sad. Since Melissa now dared to provoke him, he couldn't help but shout at her, "Shut up! I'm not Sheryl. So don't think that I will tolerate you like she does. Leave me alone!"
Pointing his forefinger at Melissa, Lewis stared angrily at her. His bloodthirsty eyes were like that of a ferocious wolf.
Melissa's mouth shut immediately, and she didn't dare say anything more.
Since Melissa kept quiet and behaved herself, Lewis took his leave and never looked back.
Melissa was so furious and frustrated. She still believed that these two people were cheating on Charles, but she had failed to punish them today.
"Aunt Melissa, are you all right? Where is Sheryl?" Leila asked as soon as she arrived outside. The truth was, she had been hiding nearby all this time. She wouldn't miss such an exciting display. With that being said, she didn't only witness everything, but she also recorded them. All of this could become the strongest and most credible evidence of Sheryl's love affair with another man. After Charles woke up, these evidences would surely be enough to convince him to divorce Sheryl?
