The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 1641 Has Lewis Finally Given Up On Sheryl

"Please, stop crying. Who are you? What is this place?" Lewis asked, his head throbbing. He was nursing a hangover.

The woman didn't seem to hear him as she didn't respond to him at all.

She seemed to be lost in her thoughts. After sobbing for a while, she then opened her mouth to finally speak. When she did, her voice was raised and angry.

"Last night at the bar, I had too much to drink, and you took advantage of me by bringing me here! I was drunk, and you forced me here. I wouldn't have come with you if I weren't drunk! You bastard! How dare you!"

She felt violated, and Lewis was rightfully to blame. Growing furious, she started to punch Lewis on the chest.

Lewis' mind was racing. He couldn't remember anything from the previous night.

He had no idea what she was talking about. He tried to remember as much as he could about the previous night, but it was all in vain as all he got was a headache from thinking too hard.

'What did I do? Is everything she has accused me of true? I really can't remember anything!'

As Lewis tried to rack his mind further, the door was suddenly kicked open.

Lewis jolted upright at the sudden commotion. Before he knew it, a burly man was in front of him. Behind him were three other men who looked just as burly as the first one. They pulled Lewis to the floor and started beating him up.

"You bastard! How dare you do that to my wife?! Don't you know who I am? The nerve! Hit him! Hit him! Beat him to death!"

"Yes, Brother!"

"Stop! Stop it! You're going to kill him!" the woman cried.

The leader seemed infuriated by his wife's words. He ordered his men to continue beating Lewis up. He then walked towards her and slapped her across the face before she could even say anything. "Bitch! I've been nothing but good to you! How dare you fuck around with someone else behind my back!" The guy shouted angrily, at his wife. He had slapped her so hard across the face that it left a red mark on the woman's cheek.

The woman tugged at her husband's sleeve as if pleading. She then explained, "No, it's not what you think! He forced himself on me! He brought me here, and I didn't even know it! I was drunk!" "Who the hell are you people? Stop it!" Lewis shouted, enduring all the pain.

No one listened to him. Instead, they beat him even harder.

The men who were beating Lewis up didn't seem to want to stop, as if they were taking out all the anger they had on Lewis.

After a few moments, the leader raised his hand and asked his men to stop beating Lewis.

The guy said a few words, his tone still indignant. Lewis listened carefully, and he finally understood what was happening.

According to what Lewis had heard, the man suspected his wife of having an affair. He came here to catch her in the act.

Lewis was sharp enough to see right through their story. He knew this was all a set-up. The woman was clearly in on it too so they could trap Lewis. Their story was too ridiculous to be true. 'Damn it! Why was I so careless?' Lewis blamed himself for not being cautious enough, and thus getting trapped in this whole mess.

"What do you want? Tell me!" Lewis knew he had been trapped, so he asked them what they wanted from him.

He didn't want to waste time pleading and begging. He had already accepted that he would have to make a deal.

"You slept with my wife. You tell me how we're going to settle this!" The man pointed at his wife and then turned toward Lewis as he shouted at him.

Lewis was annoyed when he saw the woman had buried her face in her hands and started crying again.

"How? How do you expect me to settle this with you?" Lewis asked, his face blank and his voice indifferent.

"What's with the attitude? Don't you know what you did to my wife? Do you want me to call the police, and have them settle this?" the man threatened.

Having already seen through their plot, Lewis picked up his clothes and said nonchalantly, "I know this is all fake so you can stop the charades. I know you want money, so just name your price. Stop pretending. I'm not falling for it. You all look stupid. I know you won't call the police, so stop threatening me!"

When Lewis said this, the woman stopped crying, and the four men exchanged glances.

The leader had a strange look on his face. He rubbed his nose out of guilt.

Even though they were caught, at least they knew now that Lewis was rich. In addition to that, Lewis himself offered money in exchange for a settlement. In fact, this was possibly the best thing they could have hoped for.

"Well, we want ten million, and we're not settling for any less,"

the guy said proudly.

Lewis glanced at the woman and smirked to himself, 'This woman? Is she worth ten million?

She isn't even young nor beautiful! No man would spend ten million for a night, nor a week with her!'

Lewis thought it wasn't a fair deal, but he didn't have a choice. So he begrudgingly accepted their demand.

After all, while ten million was a big number to some; to Lewis, it wasn't. Lewis was rich enough that he could settle anything with money. If this thing went to the police, his reputation would be ruined beyond repair. Ten million wasn't much when compared to that.

"Okay, here's the cheque for ten million dollars. Take it and never show yourself to me again!" Lewis wrote a cheque and passed it to the man.

"How do we know this cheque is cashable?" the other man doubted, as he shot a menacing look toward Lewis.

Lewis didn't want to waste his breath to argue with someone as stupid as he was. So he walked to a chair, took a seat, and roughly said, "All right, cash it then. Now."

"That's a good idea!" the leader said. Then he whispered something to his men. After a while, the two men left and headed for the bank.

Around half an hour later, they found that the cheque was indeed cashable.

"Well, it's cashable. You're in luck. I'm going to spare you this time! Now go!" Lewis was finally allowed to leave.

He found this whole thing to be ridiculous. He was a busy man and he didn't have time to waste on such irrelevant people.

When Lewis left the hotel, he still felt exhausted. He still hadn't recovered from his hangover or the one-night stand.

'How did this all happen? A one-night stand? I have never had one-night stands! That isn't like me at all!' Lewis felt remorseful. He had just done what he always despised. He couldn't forgive himself for doing that!

Then he got into his car and drove to Cloud Advertising Company. As soon as he pulled over, he saw Sheryl in the parking lot.

Lewis' eyes lit up as soon as he saw Sheryl. As much as he wanted to step out of his car and go out to talk to Sheryl, he decided not to, because he felt guilty for the one-night stand that he'd just had. He felt that he didn't deserve to show himself to Sheryl after he did such a despicable thing.

In addition to that, he still felt sore from the beating that he had just gotten, and he still had bruises all over his face. If Sheryl saw him like that, she'd definitely ask him what had happened to him. How would he explain to her? Was he going to tell her that he was beaten up because he had slept with someone else's wife?

He couldn't even imagine how that would turn out.

Even though he knew that Sheryl didn't like him at all, he still didn't want Sheryl to know about that side of him.

Lewis felt guilty because he couldn't imagine what Sheryl would think of him if she found out he had slept with a married woman. He didn't have the guts to go up to Sheryl and greet her. So he just decided to stay in his car and watch Sheryl from a distance.

To him, Sheryl had always remained the same. She was elegant and graceful as ever. Lewis' heart raced even while he just watched Sheryl from a distance. He'd always loved Sheryl, and that had never changed. He felt guilty too because he felt like he didn't deserve Sheryl's love anymore, because of what he'd done.

As Lewis watched Sheryl, what he didn't know was that someone else was watching him too. Isla was keeping an eye on him for Sheryl. She planned to call Sheryl and inform her that Lewis was around the area so she could avoid him.

However, she wasn't sure how urgent it was so she hesitated calling Sheryl right away.

As Sheryl passed Lewis' car, Isla feared that Lewis might get out and talk to her suddenly.

Isla's concern was, however, unfounded as even though Lewis got out of his car, he didn't approach Sheryl or anything.

This confused Isla. She thought, 'Has Lewis finally given up on Sheryl?'
