The Apple of My Eye -
Chapter 1646 Charles Is Going To Wake Up
Sheryl certainly understood what Isla meant, but she no longer had extra energy to even bother.
"Sher, I know you are already tired. Let me handle it. I won't disappoint you. As your bestie, I have to remind you all the time that you are so lucky to have me." Sheryl didn't say anything. Isla stared back at her as she could guess what was wrong, so she patted her chest to assure Sheryl she was serious.
It was something annoying, but Isla's words made it sound otherwise, so Sheryl couldn't help laughing.
Sometimes Sheryl admired that Isla could talk about anything that way. Even if she got angry, she could direct herself.
However, Sheryl couldn't do that. It appeared that she had let many things pass, but in fact, she felt very sad.
"Hmm, I believe you. Isla Zhao, I will let you cope with my bashers online." Sheryl looked at Isla and patted her shoulder, as if officially giving her the power to act.
Hearing that Sheryl had replied to her, Isla was finally relieved.
When they arrived at the company, Sheryl asked Phoebe to come to her office.
Isla decided to stay. She also wanted to know what Phoebe's feelings for Josef was.
Soon, Phoebe knocked on Sheryl's office door and then walked in.
She was welcomed by Sheryl and Isla with their arms folded across their chests as if trying to query her. It didn't take a scientist to figure out why they had asked her to come. Thinking about what happened yesterday, Phoebe suddenly felt shy. Tucking her hair behind her ear, she smiled awkwardly.
"Phoebe, come and have a seat. I want to ask you something," Patting the seat next to her, Isla motioned Phoebe forward.
Sheryl also nodded in cooperation with Isla and waved her hand, gesturing for Phoebe to come over and sit.
Closing the door behind her, Phoebe knew that she couldn't escape this time. Anyway, she had to face them sooner or later. At worst she would tell them frankly.
With a hundred thoughts running in her head, Phoebe nodded at Sheryl and then sat next to Isla.
"Tell us. What's your feeling of Josef?" Isla started, not wanting to beat around the bush.
Her question made Phoebe more embarrassed than she already was. Although it was her first time to meet Josef, she really thought that he was nice. In general, she liked him. "Phoebe, say something." Isla got anxious, seeing that Phoebe was at a loss and completely silent.
Standing up, Sheryl waited for Phoebe's answer.
Under these circumstances, Phoebe had no choice but to answer the question as honestly as possible.
"Do you mean that you could go on to the next level then, right?" The excitement in Isla's voice was very apparent.
Phoebe nodded slightly and laughed shyly.
This also made Sheryl happy. They had moved a big step forward. Sheryl didn't ask for anything but hoped that Phoebe could be happy.
Isla had said much to Sheryl. Phoebe had heard them and thought if she didn't want to be with Josef, she might let him down.
It was said that three women could have a play. The three chatted further all morning, not noticing that half the day passed too quickly. When they had lunch together, Phoebe received a call from Josef, triggering jokes from Isla.
If Sheryl didn't stop her, Isla would end up teasing Phoebe nonstop.
Josef asked Phoebe if they could watch a movie. Feeling generous, Sheryl let her take the second half of the day off.
Phoebe planned to refuse him initially, but since her boss gave her leave, she agreed to date Josef.
After sending Phoebe away, Isla returned to work, while Sheryl went to the hospital as usual.
At the moment, Melissa was already feeling bored at the hospital. Since Leila had started to work in Shining Company, only Melissa was able to come and visit Charles during the daytime. Generally, Leila would come to visit after work every afternoon. Then they would go back to Dream Garden at night and have the special nurse stay with Charles on the night shift.
Every night, Sheryl would come to check on Charles when neither Melissa nor Leila was in the hospital.
Sometimes she would bump into them, but Sheryl didn't fear. After all, Melissa couldn't replace a reason to kick her out, so she just let Sheryl come to see Charles. Melissa would usually say something harsh sounding to provoke Sheryl.
But Sheryl had already got used to it long ago, so she was completely indifferent.
"Charles, why haven't you woken up yet?" Sitting on Charles' bedside, Melissa sighed helplessly.
As soon as she stopped speaking, Melissa blinked and she didn't know if she was mistaken. In a trance, she seemed to have noticed Charles' finger move.
Looking at Charles again, Melissa shook her head and rubbed her eyes.
To her surprise, Charles' finger was really moving. Melissa cried emotionally.
Melissa rushed outside to replace the doctor.
"Doctor, my son seems to have moved." Crashing into the doctor's office, Melissa announced after catching her breath by the door.
The doctor was also excited to hear Melissa's news and went back to Charles' ward immediately. After examining Charles, the doctor turned to Melissa. "There is a hint that the patient will wake up soon. I hope that you are prepared."
"Doctor, is it true? Is my son truly going to wake up?" Melissa asked excitedly while she held the doctor's hand.
The doctor certainly understood Melissa's feelings, but he was not used to someone holding his hand. Feeling awkward, he freed his hand from her grip before nodding his head.
The doctor gave her some instructions before he walked out of the ward.
Thinking that Charles would be waking up soon, Melissa felt excited and restless. After a while, she decided to call Leila.
At Shining Company
Because of the secret deal with Holley, Leila had to prepare everything before Charles woke up, in case she would be caught by surprise.
Leila had a clear purpose when she returned to Shining Company. She needed to discover as much information as possible about the project. She was a firm believer that to win every battle, one needed to know both themselves and their enemy. Only after she was clear about all the trends of the project could she replace its weakness.
So Leila was as busy as a bee. Finishing her work at hand, she finally prepared to sit down for a rest when her cell phone rang. Checking the name on its caller ID, she frowned when she saw it was Melissa who was calling. Getting calls from her didn't really make her happy, but still, she answered the phone in a sweet voice, "Aunt Melissa, why are you calling me at this time? Is there something wrong with Charles?"
Her voice sounded both sweet and sad. Leila was perhaps the only one who could pretend to this level.
"Leila, come to the hospital now. Charles is going to wake up soon."
"Aunt Melissa, what did you say?" The news had her spring up from her chair emotionally, doubts cast aside.
"Charles is going to wake up!" Melissa repeated what she just said.
Stammering, Leila answered, "Okay, Aunt Melissa. I am on my way to the hospital now."
Soon after she ended the call, Leila grabbed her bag and rushed to the hospital.
