The Apple of My Eye -
Chapter 1656 Show No Respect
"Mother, Sher is just worried about me. Why would she curse me?" As soon as Charles stopped, he saw that Melissa was still planning on complaining, so he interrupted her by saying, "Mother, I'm hungry." Charles slightly furrowed his brows together and looked at Melissa gently.
Melissa wasn't stupid so she knew what Charles was doing. He wanted her to stop talking. Since she didn't want to get in a fight with him, she just decided to leave.
"All right, I'm leaving, and I'll tell Nancy to cook something good for you." After that, Melissa turned and left.
Before leaving, Melissa slammed the door behind her on purpose. Sheryl couldn't help but glance at the door.
"Sher, come here." Charles waved his hand as if to tell Sheryl to come nearer.
Charles knew that Melissa was jealous and that she had done that on purpose. He had woken up now, and Sheryl was with him, so he had nothing to complain about. "What's up? Is there something wrong with you?" Sheryl thought that Charles had asked her to come closer because he wasn't feeling well, so she looked at him nervously.
Charles shook his head and held Sheryl's hand. "No. I haven't seen you for such a long time, so I want to look at you."
Upon hearing this, Sheryl smiled bashfully. "Aren't you afraid that you'll get tired of me one day?"
"No, I will never get tired of you."
They looked at each other lovingly.
In another ward of the hospital, Cassie had just woken up. She saw the unusual look on Nick's face and then asked, "Did the police catch Leila?"
Nick raised his head to look at Cassie and shook his head.
"Cassie, don't worry. I'm going to figure this out. I won't let Leila get away with this." Nick blamed himself for his incompetence. He clenched his fists and swore to himself that he would make Leila pay.
Cassie gripped Nick's hand and said to him with a smile, "It doesn't matter. Karma has its way of getting back at people. It'll catch up with Leila soon enough."
It wasn't that Cassie was just comforting herself. She really believed that evil would never win over good. For her, the universe or God was going to punish Leila eventually, even if the police couldn't for lack of evidence.
"Cassie, Mr. Lu has woken up."
Cora suddenly pushed the door open and came in. She excitedly told Cassie and Nick the news she had just received.
"Really?"
Nick and Cassie looked at Cora in doubt.
Cora nodded vigorously, as if trying to convince them that she was telling the truth.
After replaceing out that Charles had woken up, Cassie and Nick went to his room. As soon as they reached the door, they saw Sheryl and Charles looking deeply at each other, their hands intertwined. Cassie turned to Nick and laughed. "Don't disturb Sher and Mr. Lu. Looks like they've made up!"
"Hmm, I hope so." Nick wasn't as happy for Sheryl as Cassie was.
Even though Nick was glad that Charles had woken up, he didn't want to think what was in store for Charles and Sheryl now. Problems were being thrown at them left and right, and there was no assurance that their relationship could stand up to all of these challenges.
"What's the matter with you?" Cassie glanced at Nick and noticed that he looked upset.
Cassie looked at Nick with a mix of surprise and confusion. She wondered, 'Charles has finally woken up. Isn't that good news? Then why isn't Nick happy?'
"I'm fine. Let's just come back later." Nick forced a smile as he looked at Cassie. Then he held her arm and supported her as they returned to her room.
"Are you scared that they won't get their happy ending?" Cassie asked as soon as they reached her room. She had been in a relationship with Nick long enough to see right through him.
Nick raised his head and sighed, shaking his head. "Yes. I'm glad that Charles has woken up, and that certainly makes things easier for Sher, but can they really forget about all that has just happened? Can they really put it all behind them?"
While Cassie understood that Nick's concern wasn't unfounded, she also knew that it was none of their business. Whether or not Sheryl and Charles were going to fix their problems was up to them. All they could do was hope that everything would turn out for the best.
In Dream Garden
Leila had just returned to Dream Garden. Even though she was worried about the whole thing with Cassie, she decided not to let it affect her.
She decided to do a quick stretch and head upstairs so she could rest. However, just as she was preparing, she saw that Melissa had just returned looking rather angry.
"Aunt Melissa, what's wrong? Why are you just getting home now?" Leila thought Melissa was probably angry because of Sheryl. If she didn't do anything about it, she would just regret it.
She approached Melissa and poured her a cup of tea.
Melissa drank the tea and furiously said, "Charles has woken up."
"Aunt Melissa, what did you say? Charles has woken up? Really?" Upon hearing this, Leila immediately became emotional. She grabbed Melissa's arm and looked at her expectantly as if she was waiting for Melissa to confirm the news.
"Yes, Charles has woken up." Melissa's tone was flat as she spoke.
Leila was surprised. Charles was Melissa's son. Shouldn't she be overjoyed that her son had woken up?
"Aunt Melissa, aren't you happy?" Leila probed.
Melissa finally turned around and faced Leila. She held Leila's hand and started complaining about Sheryl and Charles.
"You know what? Charles may finally have woken up, but he doesn't care about his own mother. All he cares about is that bitch, Sheryl. For the life of me, I can't understand it! I gave birth to him! Me! I'm his mother! Why doesn't he care about me? He cares more about that, Sheryl!" As Melissa spoke, she only got angrier and more frustrated, so that tears started to build up in her eyes.
"Aunt Melissa, don't get so emotional. What on earth happened? Did Sheryl try to ruin your relationship with Charles again?" Leila had been looking forward to Charles waking up, because only then could she try to get closer to him again. However, she also knew that she couldn't ignore the one person standing in her way, Sheryl.
"Of course, Sheryl has no respect for me. As long as she doesn't get in the way of my relationship with Charles, I don't mind. She doesn't have class anyway."
Melissa stopped and looked at Leila. When Leila didn't say anything, Melissa continued, "When Charles woke up, he didn't even look at me. He only had eyes for Sheryl..."
Melissa said desperately and then cried.
Leila was also irked upon hearing this. With a sharp look in her eyes, she thought, 'What is it with that Sheryl? Why is Charles so obsessed with her?'
"Aunt Melissa, don't get mad anymore. Stop crying. It'll be bad for your health if you keep crying. You have to take care of yourself. If Sheryl replaces out that you're upset, then she'll know that she won!" Leila did her best to comfort Melissa.
