The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 1675 Their Plan Changed

Although Charles didn't personally see Sheryl push Melissa onto the ground, he knew that his mom wouldn't blame Sheryl for something that she didn't do. Thinking about this, Charles got more irritated. But because of Nancy, Charles tried to control his temper and calm himself down. After he finished dinner, Nancy left.

Leila didn't leave with Nancy. Instead, she stayed in the ward with Melissa, discussing their next move for tomorrow.

"Aunt Melissa, we need to gang up on Sheryl. As long as we keep complaining about Sheryl in front of Charles for the next few days, I am sure Charles will divorce from Sheryl. It is just a matter of time." Leila wanted to strike while the iron was hot.

Melissa nodded her head in agreement. "But we need to be careful about this. We can't do this if Sheryl isn't here, because it will only annoy Charles."

Charles was Melissa's son and she knew him well. Their plan would only backfire if they complained about Sheryl without any valid evidence.

"Uh-huh, I got it. Well, we'll just play it by ear tomorrow." Thinking about Melissa's words, Leila realized that she was right. They'd cope better with shifting events by sticking to a fundamental principle. After Melissa fell asleep, Leila went to Charles' ward.

Leila walked in to replace David also inside with Charles. Feeling a little embarrassed, she said, "Sorry for interrupting you guys. I will wait outside."

"Anything wrong?" Charles asked Leila.

"Nothing, I just want to stop by and tell you that Aunt Melissa has already fallen asleep. If everything is okay with you, I will go back to the Dream Garden," smiling, Leila answered Charles' question. "You can leave now. Everything is fine here," Charles said indifferently, waving his hands to ask Leila to leave.

Leila nodded at Charles, then closed the door.

When Leila had left, Charles noticed the disappointment and annoyance on David's face.

"Is Leila that annoying?" Charles asked, his eyes focusing on David.

Hearing Charles' question, David turned around to look at him. Seeing how Charles furrowed his brows, David was hesitant to reply. But Charles was staring at him, waiting for his answer. So he opened his mouth and answered, "Yes, she is."

"How's she doing at the company?" Charles didn't have too much faith in Leila. Even though Leila really cared about Melissa, it didn't mean that she could make up for what she had done in the past. And Charles would never forget about the troubles Leila had caused him.

"She's fine. But obviously, she isn't very likeable. Almost everyone in the company complains about her." David observed Charles' reaction as he reported.

Charles seemed calm. When David finished speaking, Charles nodded his head, lost in thought. After a few moments, Charles reminded David, "She's just a secretary. I guess she can't cause us any serious trouble. But I still want you to keep an eye on her."

"I know, President Lu," David answered firmly, assuring Charles.

Charles didn't say another word.

David reported everything that happened while Charles was in a coma. Nothing was wrong with the Shining Company. But there were some changes in one of their major projects, so David had personally come to the hospital to report it to Charles, even though he hadn't fully recovered yet.

"They just want a higher offer. Go and replace out whether they are seeing another company." Charles was an expert when it came to business. He had encountered similar situations many times in the past, and experience told him that his partner must have a back-up plan. Otherwise, they wouldn't dare to raise the offer and confront the Shining Company.

"Yes, President Lu. I will investigate immediately," David replied before he left the hospital.

After David left, the room fell into dead silence. Without David or his work to distract him, Charles now had more time to think about Leila and the troubles she brought with her, and it irritated him. If he knew how much trouble Leila would cause him and his marriage, Charles would never have allowed Leila to stay in the Dream Garden, even if Melissa had begged him. But what happened had happened, and Charles couldn't change it. It was too late. All that he could do now was to do damage control, trying his best to get everything back on the right track.

Taking out his phone, Charles browsed through his contact list.

Staring at the screen, his finger stopped at Sheryl's name.

He wanted so badly to call her, but he had no idea what to tell Sheryl. Charles was at his wits' end.

Finally, he decided to forget about all his troubles for the time being. He put away his phone and lay down, forcing himself to go to sleep.

'Sheryl, you are the only one who can cause me late-night restlessness,' Charles thought bitterly.

Slowly closing his eyes, Charles finally drifted off to sleep.

The next day at the Dream Garden

Leila was awaken by a phone call from Holley.

"I am outside the Dream Garden. Come and meet me!" Holley sounded very anxious. It seemed that whatever news she brought couldn't wait till later. Otherwise, she wouldn't have asked Leila to meet this early.

Confused, Leila wondered, 'What's so urgent that Holley can't discuss it over the phone?'

So Leila replied in a disgruntled tone, "Can't you discuss it with me over the phone?"

"It is very important and urgent. Come and meet me now. Don't waste any time! I will be screwed if anyone else sees me here." Holley then hung up on Leila.

Leila furrowed her brows as she stared at the screen. Seeing that Nancy was busy preparing breakfast in the kitchen, Leila snuck out without her noticing.

Leila saw Holley's car the moment she walked out of the door.

She looked around and made sure no one saw her before she got into the car.

"What happened?" Leila asked impatiently.

Looking around, Holley lowered her voice and said carefully, "Someone has already tampered with the project. Now you just need to do a number on the files. Everything is all set. Then, success will be only a step away!"

"Someone?" Leila clarified. "Who is it?" Leila squinted, confused.

'Does Holley have other people to help her in the company? Am I not the only one?' Leila thought to herself.

Surprised by this news, Leila felt desperate to know who was behind Holley. Leila should have found out about this long ago. She knew what Holley was capable of. For sure, Holley could never achieve this without any help.

"That's none of your business. You just need to bear in mind that once the Shining Company declines, it will benefit both of us. However, if you make any mistakes this time, don't blame me for not helping you,' Holley reminded Leila condescendingly.

Holley had just gotten the call from Ferry before she drove to the Dream Garden, so she was extremely annoyed and impatient. She didn't bother to explain to Leila.

Leila ended up more confused. She wanted to press Holley to get an answer. But then, she realized that she still needed Holley's help, and she couldn't afford to lose her. Donning a smile, she commented, "I know. I know I can't go back to the Shining Company without your help. So, I will do whatever you ask me to do."

Leila knew that as long as she sucked up to Holley, Holley would be more than glad to help her. It was more like reaping without sowing. Therefore, Leila was very generous when she complimented Holley. Satisfied, Holley nodded before reminding Leila, "Remember to change the bid price, so that the Shining Company will lose this project forever."

Leila was about to say yes. But then, something occurred to her.

'How can I take back the project if I lose this project forever? Besides, almost every project in the Shining Company is related to each other. If the company loses this project, it will end up facing a big challenge.' Leila was dumbfounded.

Initially, Leila and Holley made a deal that they would take over the project, and then Leila would help Charles take it back, so Leila could win back Charles' heart and change his opinion towards her.

But as she pondered on Holley's plans, somehow Leila had the feeling, that Holley aimed not just to have the Shining Company lose a project. Leila always knew that Holley had her own plans. But it never occurred to her that it was to destroy the Shining Company.
