The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 1696 A Bit Depressed

"Right, I truly hope things will go well. Otherwise, I don't think I can ever get rid of that woman!" Melissa exclaimed anxiously and slouched on the couch.

Now that she was eagerly waiting to see the result, she wished that time could fly.

"Aunt Melissa, I'm going to buy some of Charles' favorite food. Let's celebrate tonight!" Leila beamed at Melissa.

Melissa had lost focus and her mind was already drifting away. In a daze, she nodded her head.

Seeing that Melissa had agreed, Leila walked out of the Dream Garden.

Actually she wasn't planning to buy some food; her motive was to discuss something with Holley.

"Holley, let's meet," Leila said over the phone.

Holley's mind was occupied with Black. When she heard Leila's request, she frowned and answered, "I'm busy right now. Whatever you have, you can say it over the phone."

Leila couldn't help but wonder what had happened to Holley. 'Why does she sound so upset?' she pondered.

But she had no intention of figuring out what had gone wrong with Holley. "The project with Star Company was sabotaged by someone. Did you have a hand in it?" Leila asked, deciding to cut to the chase. "Right, I thought I had already told you about it. You only have to tell me the final price!" Holley answered impatiently.

As Leila sounded so urgent, Holley thought that she had something important to tell her. Now it turned out she was going on about this useless business.

"Don't hurry. I'm calling to ask you who the person behind you is!"

Leila had been pondering over this issue for days. No matter how she tried to scratch her head, she couldn't come up with anyone who would deliberately rival Charles while remaining hidden in the dark. That was why she had called Holley.

"Don't ask something you shouldn't be asking. Such an action might get you into trouble. You got what you want, and I got what I want, so consider this topic closed. Curiosity might kill you!" A hint of nervousness flashed across Holley's eyes. Luckily Leila wasn't talking to her face-to-face, or else she might have discovered something was truly wrong.

"All right. Until you tell me who the person is, I won't reveal the price. But go ahead. Take your time to make the decision!" Leila had her bargaining chip, and she knew that she had gained the upper hand in this deal. After she said that, she hung up the phone.

Leila's attitude deeply annoyed Holley, but there was nothing much she could do about it.

Even though Leila still hadn't gotten the answer she wanted, she succeeded in intimidating Holley. That wasn't a bad result after all. Now all she could do was wait for Holley's call.

After contemplating the issue for a while, she headed towards a nearby supermarket.

In the meantime, Charles had just reached the court.

The driver parked the car just opposite the court. Raising his head, Charles saw Sheryl.

It just happened that Sheryl was getting out of a taxi.

Charles couldn't help dashing to Sheryl. Swiftly, he grabbed her.

Before Sheryl could respond, she was pulled by Charles.

The sudden action of Charles' annoyed Sheryl, who yelled to him, "Get off me!"

However, Charles didn't seem to hear her complaint. He still dragged Sheryl back to the car.

Unfortunately for Sheryl, she couldn't compete with Charles in terms of strength. Pushing Sheryl into the car, he ordered the driver, "Get out!"

The driver heeded his order and got out of the car.

The sudden push by Charles hurt Sheryl. Before she could open her mouth to complain, Charles sprang towards her and started to kiss her.

She tried to struggle, but his force was too strong. No matter how many times she punched him, Charles didn't seem to feel any pain. He was kissing Sheryl on every part of her exposed skin as if he had been so hungry for her.

Sheryl opened her mouth in an attempt to curse. However, this unexpectedly gave Charles a chance to invade into her mouth. Soon, her mouth was occupied by his tongue.

Right now, Charles was like a hungry wolf, and Sheryl was like a docile sheep. There was nothing much she could do to escape her fate.

Charles went further and attempted to take off her clothes. Getting enraged, Sheryl mustered her strength and slapped him right across his face.

All of a sudden, Charles felt that his face was burning, and reflexively he let Sheryl go.

For a moment, he sat dazed.

Eyes brimming with tears, Sheryl quickly got out of the car, right after she shot him a death glare.

When Charles snapped back to reality, Sheryl had already disappeared into a taxi and was gone.

He knew that it was too late to catch her again. Hence, he mindlessly stared at the taxi as it moved away.

Inside the taxi, Sheryl was trembling, tears trickling down her face.

Indeed they were a couple, and kissing was a routine in their lives, but she would never have imagined that Charles would force her. Thinking of that, she became even more grief-stricken. For a while, it seemed like she couldn't even breathe.

"Hey, are you all right?" The taxi driver had noticed in the rear-view mirror that she was crying. He couldn't help but show his concern.

'She's my first passenger today. I don't want to get into any trouble. She seems to be really upset. If anything happens to her, I'll surely get in trouble,' he thought to himself.

"I'm all right. And sorry about for this." Wiping away the tears on her face, Sheryl forced a smile.

The driver kindly lowered the window at Sheryl's side so that she could breathe in some fresh air. Knowing it would be rude to ask further questions, he stayed silent.

In half an hour, she arrived at the Cloud Advertising Company's office.

Isla was aware that Sheryl was going to settle the divorce with Charles in court today. Preoccupied with that matter in mind, she couldn't concentrate on her work and had been anxiously waiting for Sheryl. When her office door was pushed open, Isla raised her head and saw Phoebe. Pointing her finger outside, she said to Isla, "Ma'am, Mrs. Lu is back!"

"So early?" Frowning, Isla thought, 'How come she's back so soon?'

Instantly, she rose and went to Sheryl's office.

After getting a cup of coffee for Sheryl, Phoebe soon followed Isla into Sheryl's office.

"Mrs. Lu, here is your coffee. And Miss Zhao, here is your milk tea!" Having worked with them for quite some time, Phoebe knew very well what their preferred drinks were.

Sheryl kept her head low and wore a sullen look. Isla waved at Phoebe, who understood the cue and left the office.

When Phoebe had gone, Isla hurried to ask, "How was it?"

Sheryl merely shook her head without giving any answer.

The gloomy look on Sheryl's face worried Isla. Feeling anxious, she slapped on the desk, and asked, "What happened? Say something!"

Heaving a sigh, Sheryl started, "Isla, Charles didn't divorce me. We didn't go to court. At the moment, I am a bit depressed."

"Really?" Isla eyed Sheryl in disbelief, doubting if Sheryl had told her the truth or not.

Nodding heavily, Sheryl gave Isla a reassuring glance, hoping that it would convince her.
