The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 1966 Clark's Worry

"Trust me! I'm fine." Sheryl smiled at Isla because she didn't want Isla to worry about her anymore. Still, on the inside, she couldn't accept how quickly these things were happening to her.

It had been a few days, but Sheryl still couldn't believe it. They loved each other. How could he do that?

"Sher, I know that you're sad and angry. You can tell me, and I can help you. But you're not telling me anything, and that's worrying me." Isla knew that Sheryl was sad, but Sheryl wasn't telling her anything, and that was what worried her the most.

"I just don't want you to worry about me. I'm fine. I just don't understand what's happening, but I'll be fine." Sheryl looked at Isla with a serious expression. She hoped that Isla would understand her.

"Well, why don't you rest first? I'll take the kids out for a walk and play with them a bit. When we come back, I hope you'll be feeling better. If you're still feeling angry or upset, I'll help you, okay?" After this, Isla turned and left the room, leaving Sheryl alone.

The kids were in the living room. As soon as they saw Isla, they came running to her. They were quite fast.

"Aunt Isla, what's wrong with mom?" Clark looked at Isla with a worried expression on his face.

Isla got on her knees and beamed at the kids.

"She's fine. She's just tired. Why don't we let her rest while we go to the amusement park? How does that sound?" Isla looked back and forth between Clark and Shirley, waiting to hear their excited screams. Shirley didn't know what was happening. So she smiled at Isla in agreement.

However, Clark was still upset.

Isla couldn't help but be worried about him. She patted his head and said, "Clark, come with us or else, we'll be sad too."

Clark had no choice but to agree with them even though he wasn't really up to it.

"Clark, you're still a little boy. Don't worry about your parents. They can solve their problems by themselves. You just focus on yourself, all right?"

Isla knew that Clark was mature for his age, so she explained it to him in a way that he would understand.

"All right, Aunt Isla. Thanks." He still didn't seem fully convinced, but he had already let it go.

Soon, they arrived at the amusement park.

As soon as they arrived, Shirley laughed merrily upon seeing the sea of people enjoying themselves. She was different from her brother as she was still young, and she genuinely had no idea what had happened to her parents.

"Aunt Isla, I want to ride the merry-go-round." Shirley pointed to the merry-go-round as it was much grander and bigger than the one she had at home.

"All right. Joan, you stay with Clark. I'll go with Shirley." Isla noticed that Clark was fixated on the ground. She knew that he wasn't in the mood to play.

"All right, Mrs. Zhao. I'll stay with Clark," Joan replied. Isla then grabbed Shirley's hand as they headed to the merry-go-round.

They played for about three hours. Shirley was giddy and excited, and Isla couldn't help but enjoy herself too.

"Shirley, don't run too fast or you'll fall down." Isla followed her around religiously, afraid that Shirley would fall from how fast she was running.

"Aunt Isla, you run faster. I want to play there," Shirley called to Isla, who was trailing behind her as she dashed.

"I'll catch up with you!"

It took Isla a few minutes to catch up with Shirley.

Soon, it was time to go home, and Shirley didn't want to leave. Isla found that it was too late, and they really needed to get home. She had to stop Shirley from playing. "Shirley, it's time to go home." "Aunt Isla, I still want to play!" Shirley begged, shaking her head.

If this were any other time, Isla would agree to this. However, today, she didn't as she knew they really needed to get home soon, or Shirley would worry about them.

"Shirley, your brother's waiting for us. You know Clark wants to go home and see your mom. Don't you want to see your mom too?" Isla said softly.

Shirley nodded upon seeing the look on Clark's face.

"Clark, let's go!" When Isla saw the look on Clark's face, she couldn't help but feel bad for him.

"All right."

Clark had wanted to leave as soon as they got there, but Shirley seemed happy, so he just stayed and let Shirley have her fun.

When they got in the car, Shirley fell asleep right away. She must have been tired from running and playing all day.

"Clark, what's wrong? You look upset," Isla asked Clark.

"Aunt Isla, are you sure that my mom's fine now?"

"Don't worry. I couldn't lie to you." However, she could see that Clark didn't believe her.

Soon, they arrived home. Isla gently shook Shirley to wake her up.

"Joan, why don't you take Shirley upstairs and prepare her for bed?" Shirley was too sleepy and tired to do anything, so Isla asked Joan to take Shirley upstairs, so she could rest. She'd been playing the entire day.

"All right, Mrs. Zhao." Joan nodded her head and then took Shirley upstairs.

Isla followed behind as she wanted to see Sheryl. However, when she arrived at her room, she saw that Sheryl had already fallen asleep.

Clark kept silent the entire time. He remained sitting in the living room with his head in his hands. It seemed as if he was in deep thought.

"Clark, what are you thinking?" Isla asked as she sat beside Clark.

When they were still at the amusement park, Clark already knew what he wanted to do-he was going to replace Charles and ask him what was really happening.

"Aunt Isla, could you drive me to my father's company?" Clark looked at Isla with a serious expression.

"Clark, I'm so sorry. I can't do that!" Isla refused Clark at once.

Clark was visibly upset upon Isla's refusal. However, he seemed determined.

"Aunt Isla, if you can't drive me there, I can go by myself."
