The Apple of My Eye -
Chapter 2040 Jealous
In the hotel, Charles had a long discussion with the partner, lasting a few hours before he signed the agreement.
"Mr. Lu, I am so sorry. We were not aware of the relationship between your former secretary Leila and Mr. Xu. Thank you for the information." His partner apologized politely. He didn't dare to fully express his thoughts lest that would make Charles angrier.
"Maybe, Mr. Xu had forgotten to tell you. Even if we agree to cooperate, I don't think that Mr. Xu would deal with the project of Shining Company," Charles opined.
"All right. Mr. Lu, don't worry."
"Okay."
There were some legal clauses involved in this. The cooperation between them was about an audit. If someone's friends and family had worked for the cooperative company, this person couldn't take part in the cooperative project.
That was the reason that prevented Mr. Xu from taking part in this project. Therefore, the project would be going well.
Charles asked his employees to see off his partner. Then he headed downstairs to discuss work with David.
After that, just before Charles was about to leave the hotel, he happened to see Sheryl. Just one flash of Sheryl and a pleasant smile graced Charles' face. It had been so long that he had not seen her. How much Charles' missed Sheryl!
Charles had never expected to meet Sheryl in this way. He froze where he was standing as he watched her from afar. Sheryl had the same smile that always made him feel like coming back home. Slowly, his eyes shifted from Sheryl to the stranger she was smiling at. And in that very instant, the smile disappeared from Charles' face turning it into a grim expression.
Outside the hotel
Damian followed Sheryl as she got out of the car and headed towards the hotel entrance.
"Alright. You go upstairs. I need to go home." Sheryl said goodbye to Damian and was about to leave.
But as soon as she turned back, Damian stopped her.
"Sher."
"What's the matter, Damian?" Sheryl turned back and looked at Damian with curious eyes.
Damian walked closer to her with a smile and looked into her eyes affectionately. All of a sudden, he lowered his head.
Sheryl stared blankly at him, watching him as he inched closer to her. She had a vague sense of fear in her heart as if she knew something terrible was going to happen. She wanted to step back, but she could not move because Damian held her arms.
All of a sudden, his lips touched her forehead softly.
Boom! She felt as if there was a thunderbolt inside her head.
Damian kissed her! Damian kissed on her forehead.
'He even kisses me.' Sheryl was so shocked and dumbfounded.
Though it was normal for friends to kiss each other's face abroad, it was not something Sheryl was very comfortable with. Besides, Damian had never kissed her before.
Sheryl was very shocked because of Damian's impromptu gesture.
She almost froze on the spot where she stood, not knowing how to react.
Damian touched Sheryl's head softly. He turned back with a triumphing smile on his face. He always turned back to see Sheryl.
"Good night."
As Sheryl saw Damian waving his hand, Sheryl nodded her head indecisively.
After Damian entered the hotel, Sheryl touched her forehead, feeling deeply uncomfortable and uneasy in her mind. Then as she turned around to leave, her eyes fell upon a man glaring at her in anger. As soon as Sheryl's eyes met his angry eyes, she froze for a moment. The man was none other than Charles.
Charles looked at her with a stern, dark look on his face. Sheryl was shocked to see Charles standing there.
Though she didn't like Damian having kissed her, she was also afraid that Charles had seen it.
Charles stared at her for a long time and said nothing.
Then David quietly approached Sheryl and stood beside her. Sheryl looked at David and then turned towards Charles. She realized that both the men had seen Damian kissing her.
But then she thought that they might not have been able to recognize Damian in the darkness.
Yet David knew that Charles would not be able to withstand any other man coming close to Sheryl. He was afraid that they would end up having an argument.
Sheryl opened her mouth and was about to explain it. But she remembered that they were divorced. Moreover, she didn't know how to explain it.
Slowly, it dawned upon Sheryl's mind that she need not be afraid of him. They were divorced. Moreover, Damian had just kissed her forehead. Sheryl was going to leave without saying anything.
Charles stopped her at once.
"You couldn't wait to replace a new boyfriend?" Charles took the lead to speak.
As Sheryl heard his words, a frown appeared on her face.
'What does he mean to say?
A new boyfriend?'
In an instant, Sheryl felt an indomitable resentment rising in her heart for Charles. She gave him a disgusted look.
All of a sudden, a woman's face flashed in front of her eyes.
Vicky!
'Charles has made a new girlfriend. And I can't even meet a friend? How could he consider my friend as my boyfriend?
How dare he become judgmental about me?'
Sheryl narrowed her eyes as she kept her gaze fixed on Charles. She clenched her hand into a fist. She resisted the urge to slap Charles through his face.
Charles did not move his eyes from Sheryl's face either. He saw that she was getting irritated, but she controlled herself well.
'Why is she angry? After allowing others to kiss her in public, how could she be angry with me?'
The seething anger between Charles and Sheryl radiated heaviness in the atmosphere. Everyone who walked passed them, turned around to see them facing each other in some sort of a speechless discord. David stood beside Charles. He could feel the intensity of the anger and resentment from both sides, and he became tensed, fearing that it could lead to a further war of words between Sheryl and Charles. 'Why did the Boss have to say such words? This only enraged Sheryl more.'
David knew how much Charles cared about Sheryl. But now...
"Ms. Xia, he didn't mean that." David hurried to explain Charles' words.
'He didn't mean that? What did he mean then?
He just thought that I had made a boyfriend. The meaning of what he said is not so difficult to understand.'
Sheryl took a look at David and turned to stare at Charles with her eyes full of resentment. After that, she let out a cold smile and said, "That is none of your business."
Charles stared at Sheryl's face as her words pierced through his heart. Even if he was angry in his mind, he still kept calm. His eyes were fixed on her face, the same face that his world started and ended with. He still kept quiet, even if his heart had shattered to pieces.
He knew that he could not do anything.
It was true that it was none of his business. They were divorced. He had no right to stop her from replaceing a new boyfriend.
But damn it! He was jealous.
Sheryl belonged to him. And no divorce paper could change it.
Charles stared at Sheryl and said in a cold tone, "Sheryl, you can't get rid of me."
Sheryl widened her eyes. She was appalled.
'How arrogant he is!
How could he even utter such words?
How?'
"Mr. Lu, I remember that we are divorced. Have you forgotten about it?" Sheryl pressed her lips tightly and forced a cold smile.
Sheryl's repeatedly reminding him about the divorce made Charles flare up all the more. Damn it!
He did not divorce her out of his own free will. He had no other choice at that time. If he could choose, he would never willingly divorce her. He would live a happy life and grow old with Sheryl. And then, on top of that, she would not have made a new boyfriend.
