The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 2055 She Wanted To Avoid Him

Although Damian couldn't understand what she was mumbling, he knew she must be in pain based on the look on her face even though she was very drunk.

The car stopped at the supermarket close to Sheryl's home, and Damian got out from the driver's seat and looked closely at Sheryl, who slept soundly in the back of the car. He studied her for a moment before he walked into the supermarket.

Knowing that Sheryl would get a headache when she woke up, he decided to buy her some hangover medicine.

It only took a few minutes for Damian to walk out with a bag in his hand.

After he placed the things on the front passenger seat, Damian started walking back to the driver's seat when he suddenly paused.

He went back to the bag and picked out a bottle from it, and then he went to the car's back seat.

"Sher?" Damian gently nudged Sheryl to wake her up.

A confused Sheryl opened her eyes with great difficulty and squinted at Damian before she spoke with a hoarse voice. "Yes? What is it?"

"Here, drink it. It'll help make you feel better." Damian placed the bottle into Sheryl's hand as he replied.

There was only silence as Sheryl blankly stared at him and the bottle as if she couldn't figure out what's happening and couldn't drink by herself.

There wasn't even a hint of annoyance as Damian patiently helped her drink by placing the bottle to her lips. He waited until she finished drinking before he went back to his seat and peacefully started driving.

It didn't take long for them to arrive at Sheryl's home. Seeing that she was still peacefully sleeping, Damian couldn't bear to wake her up, nor was he willing to hand her over to Joan, who answered the door. Since there was no other option, Damian carried her into the house and her room, being extra gentle as he quietly took off her shoes and tucked her in bed.

It was silent aside from Sheryl's steady breaths as Damian sat by her bed. Once he was sure that she was deeply asleep, he reluctantly left her room with one last lingering look at Sheryl's face.

It never crossed his mind to do anything bad to her during her sleep. He knew that he loved this woman and wanted to be serious with her. He wouldn't make any move without her consent.

It was a very peaceful night for Sheryl, who slept soundly and undisturbed.

Even her children only gently kissed her forehead before leaving with Joan for school when they saw her sleep so deeply.

It was almost noon when she finally woke up and that was only because of Isla calling her phone. Otherwise, she would have continued to sleep in.

"Yeah... What's up?"

"Why don't you check what time it is? Why haven't you come to the company?"

It was an easy excuse for Isla to use so she could call Sheryl when she remembered that Sheryl had been drunk last night. She was curious about what happened between Sheryl and Damian last night but chose not to start with that topic.

It took Sheryl a while to reply as she rubbed her temples and tried to recall what happened from her fragmented memory. "I think...I drank too much last night. I just woke up...I feel so bad..." "So both of you were up all night?" Isla snickered mischievously as she spoke into the phone.

"That's stupid! What could possibly happen between me and him?" There was nothing Sheryl wish for but to kill Isla for her suggestion if she was within reach instead of the other end of a call. "Damian drove you home, you were alone with him in your room, and you didn't get laid?"

"You awful devil, I'm going to hang up if there's nothing else," Sheryl hung up without another word.

After hanging up, Sheryl got up and prepared to go to the company even if she'd arrive around lunchtime.

"You've come to the company just to have lunch, haven't you?" Isla greeted Sheryl as she looped their arms and walked into the office together.

"Isla Zhao, what did you tell Damian about me last night?"

Since she was so drunk yesterday, she didn't remember how she ended up in Damian's car nor why he picked her up. She did remember it was him who drove her home, and so she didn't doubt that Isla set it all up. After all, Isla thought Damian was a good guy.

"I didn't say anything to him, but he begged for the chance to drive you home. That's why I'm wondering what you did last night." Isla looked at Sheryl expectantly.

"Stop your imagination. Nothing happened between us." That might be her answer, but Sheryl couldn't help but start doubting her memory because of Isla's repeated questions. No matter how often she looked back to last night's events, she couldn't remember anything that happened, so she was convinced that she was right. Nothing happened because Damian wouldn't take advantage of her when she was passed

out.

"Alright, let's stop. Hurry up and let's get something to eat." Sheryl didn't want Isla to continue her inquiry, so she grabbed Isla's hand and dragged her down to the company canteen.

It was Isla who first saw Damian as they arrived at the canteen door.

It was a subconscious reaction for Sheryl to try and avoid him, but Isla pushed her forward.

"Morning."

"Morning?" It was she who had been drunk yesterday, so Sheryl couldn't help but turn and look at Isla in total perplexity for confusing the time of day. Sheryl couldn't stop her thoughts. 'Come on, it's noon, already. So why are you saying morning?'

It made Damian amused seeing their interaction, and he walked up to them enthusiastically and politely invited them like a gentleman, "May I have the honor to have two beautiful ladies join me for lunch?" "Sorry, we don't have the time," Sheryl replied.

"Yes, sure."

There was a striking contrast between Isla's light-hearted smile and Sheryl's embarrassed expression.

Since she was totally outmatched, Sheryl could only accept Damian's invitation.

Sheryl took the chance to thank Damian for his help last night.

That should have been the end of it, but Damian started trying to woo her even harder than before.

Not only would he come and see her every single day, but he'd also try to invite her out on movies or dinners with him.

At first, she would turn him down, but she'd feel sorry for him if he was always rejected, so she ended up accepting several invitations.

It was still early morning when Sheryl received a phone call from Damian, which made her confused. "What is the matter?"

"Well... Can't I call you just because?" It was a little embarrassing for Damian since it might be the wrong time to call her.

"I didn't mean it like that. I was just thinking that you'd be busy right now," Sheryl forced a smile as she explained uneasily. She didn't want to be rude when he hadn't done anything to annoy her.

"I'm not busy. You're off today, right? Please come downstairs when you're ready. I want to talk to you."

Since Damian didn't reveal what he wanted to talk about, it made Sheryl curious about it, and she couldn't wait to go down.

"Alright, I'm coming soon," Sheryl said and hurriedly went down once she finished talking to him.

She saw a new car parked at the mouth of the driveway of the building but couldn't see Damian anywhere, and it shocked her when he got out of the unfamiliar car.

Since it seemed like Damian bought a new car today and wanted to take it for a spin with her, making Sheryl smile.

The invitation was sincere enough that Sheryl could only accept.

"Is there anywhere you want to go?" It was worth mentioning that Damian was attentive and always considerate of Sheryl and would always ask for her opinion even for small things like their destination for the drive.

But that didn't mean that Damian was indecisive, he was both well organized and resolute.

There were times that Sheryl felt very curious about what made him like this. There were times she wanted to ask but swallowed it back down, in case he took the chance to confess to her again. That would just put her in a difficult situation.
