The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 2069 Damian's Help

"Damian, what happened last night? Is Sheryl your girlfriend?" Duke didn't know what to make of things. Damian had said last time that he and Sheryl weren't together because Sheryl didn't have any feelings for him. However, just a few days later, they were seen sharing a hotel room together.

"I can't tell you the whole story right now, but can you help me with the press?" Damian knew that Sheryl must be stressing over the press, so he was trying to figure out a way to help Sheryl. It was also his way of lessening the guilt he was feeling.

"Don't worry. I'm already dealing with it now. I'm also asking for help from other people, but millions of users are already discussing the issue online. It's going to be hard, but I'll try my best." Duke looked at Damian, feeling a little embarrassed.

Damian nodded. He completely understood Duke. The Li family was pretty well-known abroad, but they were newcomers here, so it was going to be a challenge.

"I see. Do your best." Damian knew that there was no point in hurrying Duke as no matter what he said, he knew Duke could only do so much.

"What are you going to do? I heard that there was a man named Charles, who was looking for you. Is he interested in Sheryl too?" Duke only knew about Charles and Sheryl from the news.

"Well, I already know what I'm going to do. I'd better be leaving now." Damian didn't want to talk with Duke anymore. So he stopped Duke, got up, and left the cafe without hesitation.

Duke followed him from behind.

"Damian, you need tell me the truth. You can't keep hiding like this. What happened to you and Sheryl? Did you know about Charles and Sheryl before?" Duke felt that he was being cheated by Damian. He was worried about Damian, but Damian wouldn't tell him the truth.

"Even if I knew, so what? Would you not do everything to be with the woman that you love?" Damian raised his voice, he was starting to get a little bit angry.

Duke wanted to advise Damian on what to do, but upon hearing this, he remained silent.

He could understand Damian, though, especially that Damian loved Sheryl. Love could make people do crazy things sometimes.

"What are you going to do? Sheryl probably hates you now." Duke figured that if Damian went to see Sheryl right now, she'd probably punch him in the face.

"Don't worry about me. Please drop me off at the hospital. I need to see Sheryl." Damian knew that someone else had drugged Sheryl, but he had to admit that if Charles hadn't come to the hotel room that night, he couldn't promise that he wouldn't have done anything to Sheryl.

"All right. We will get there soon."

"Please replace out who drugged Sheryl. I need to help Sheryl." As Damian spoke, he clenched his hands into fists. Once he found out who that man was, he was going to beat him up.

"Don't worry. I've already asked my men to look for him, but it's going to be hard as we don't have any clues," Duke sighed as he could understand Damian's frustration.

After this, they both remained silent. Duke decided to speed up his driving.

Soon they arrived at the hospital. Duke felt a little worried, so he stopped Damian and said, "Are you sure you want to see Sheryl now?"

"It's going to be fine. Don't worry about it." Damian wanted to see Sheryl right away as he wanted to apologize to her.

Duke had no choice but to let him go.

In the Shining Company

None of the employees had said anything. The place was dead silent. They couldn't even look Charles in the eyes. Anything they needed to get signed by Charles, they handed over to David.

Piles of documents in hand, David knocked on Charles' office door; however, no one answered.

David knew that Charles just wanted to be alone in his office right now, so he decided to let him be for now.

As soon as he sat down, the CFO arrived and said with a smile, "David, please help me."

David eyed the document the CFO was holding. He couldn't help but be a little irked. He pressed his hand to his forehead and said, "Mr. Liu, you're the CFO. If you need something signed, I think you can go to Mr. Lu yourself. Anyway, I'm not part of your department, and I don't know anything about this document."

David made sure that he was gentle as he refused Mr. Liu.

"David, he's in a bad mood. I don't want to face him right now."

"Yeah. Me neither,"

David said, shrugging.

Mr. Liu had no choice but to knock on Charles' door.

"Mr. Lu, this document needs your signature." After Mr. Liu knocked on the door, no one answered. He just decided to talk to Charles from behind the door.

Charles was in a bad mood that day. He couldn't get his mind off Sheryl. When he heard Mr. Liu, he snapped out of his trance. He frowned as he looked toward the door. "Come in," he called. Mr. Liu took a deep breath before he came in.

"Mr. Lu, here is the latest financial statement. Please sign it." Mr. Liu tried his best to be as relaxed as possible.

Charles looked at Mr. Liu then at the financial statement. He was stoic the entire time.

Mr. Liu was so scared that he didn't dare say anything. He rubbed his hands nervously instead.

However, a few minutes had passed, and Charles still hadn't said anything, Mr. Liu raised his head to look at Charles.

"Put it down," Charles said blankly and gestured for Mr. Liu to leave.

Mr. Liu was hoping to have the document signed right away; however, he wasn't going to ask Charles that. "Okay, Mr. Lu."

After this, he bowed to Charles and left his office.

David was waiting for him. He saw that Mr. Liu came out, smiling. He walked toward him, "How was it?"

"It was fine. It wasn't as bad as I expected it to be." Mr. Liu was a bit confused. Every press outlet was talking about Sheryl, so he could only guess what Charles must be feeling. However, when he saw Charles, he noticed he was more sad than angry.

Mr. Liu didn't know whether what he saw was right or not.

Everyone was talking about Sheryl. Even Mr. Liu, who didn't pay much attention to the news, knew about Sheryl.

"Really?" David was confused too, but he just shrugged it off and went back to work, urging Mr. Liu to do the same.

At least David now knew that Charles was seeing people in his office, he hurried back to Charles' office. David knocked on the door and waited for Charles to give him permission to come in.

"Mr. Lu."

"What is it? If it's not important, please leave right away." Charles looked at David in displease.

David hesitated for a while before he spoke, "Mr. Lu, there's someone who's helping Sheryl with the press."

David had found out earlier, but when he came to see Charles earlier, Charles had seemed busy.

"I see. Do you already know what happened last night?" Charles couldn't shake off the feeling that something else had gone wrong, but he just couldn't figure it out as his mind was clouded by worries about Sheryl.
